It has lost popularity nationally but regionally it's as popular as ever IMO
In most cases that is accurate but teams like the Yankees, the Dodgers the Red Sox, the Cubs and the Braves have a fan base that goes beyond their respective markets that no matter where they play they will have fans who will root for them as opposed to rooting for the team that is closest to where they live
