But okay, as for this dude in the thumbnail, his name is Jared Schwartz. He's a reporter for the New York Post, and he blasted me in an article after my disastrous trip to Coors Field in August. Fast-forward a month and we ended up at a game together at Citi Field. How? Because I challenged him to join me to see what it's ACTUALLY like, and to his credit he accepted.
Want to see the new article that he wrote about me? Yes, of course you do. Here's the link:
nypost.com/202...
Leave a comment on this video and let me know what you think about it, and if you want to earn some extra credit, leave a comment on the article itself on the NY Post website.
As I mentioned at the start of this video, it was filmed on September 28, 2022, so that was still at the tail end of the regular season. The Mets were facing the Miami Marlins and I got a DOZEN baseballs. As promised here's the complete list:
1) thrown by Huascar Brazoban
2) thrown (left-handed!) by Pablo Lopez
3) thrown by an unknown Marlins player
4) thrown by Richard Bleier
5) thrown by Richard Bleier
6) home run retrieved in the seats
7) home run retrieved in the seats
8) thrown by Richard Bleier
9) thrown by Richard Bleier
10) thrown by Richard Bleier
11) home run caught on the fly
12) home run by Luke Williams caught on the fly
As it turns out, Richard Bleier has now thrown me THIRTY-SEVEN BASEBALLS, which is just one short of the record for most balls from one person. That would be Carlos Beltrán with 38. (Bold prediction: Bleier will break that record next season.)
This video was filmed by "Fenway Chris" (@yonnernyc on Insta) and it was edited by Rachel Messbauer. Thanks for watching! - กีฬา
Hi Zack, I’m 54 years old and live on the south coast of England. I love baseball and have for years. I don’t ever think I’ll get to see a game other than on tv or online. I love your videos and what you do. The joy you bring to the people around you. Please don’t ever stop doing what you do. Huge respect to Jared for having an open mind and being open to the opportunity to see the real you. A quality that is in such short supply in this “ you must be black or white, no shades of grey “ world we now live in.
Hello and much love to England. I hope you make it to a game someday -- ya never know. And you're right about shades of gray.
I’m 49 and share your view and also from Southern England, I’ve always loved the game and was so glad I found Zack about 18 months ago great prospective of the game, I’ve been to a few games as a Redsox fan including this year but sadly didn’t manage to catch Zack but who knows one day , we’re in LA in July for my 50th so will be catching an angels game poss dodgers too. You can definitely see a game get some tickets to the London Series next year at the Olympic stadium london (West Ham ground) it’s the cardinals and the cubs , we did Yankees and the Redsox great weekend and you never know Zack may be there 👍🏻, thanks as always Zack 🍻
@@matthewsavidge6248 Thanks Matthew I’ll definitely keep an eye out for tickets. 👍👍
@@zackhample Thanks Zack and after your Savanna Bananas videos I think that’s where I’ll start my baseball watching career. Then maybe on to the majors. 🤣👍
People get jealous of people who shine.
Absolute blast being there! So much fun as always. Thanks for coming with us Jared, and for everyone that was there that day, thanks for bringing the positives vibes and energy that night. We got the best fans in the world!
Maaaaax! I'm so glad you were there (and that Aaron Judge delivered for you), and I agree with everything you said.

I think the world needs more of this. It’s ok to get together and talk through differences. Whether he changed his mind or not, only he knows, but he showed up, took in the experience, and to me that says a lot.
Whether you don’t like Zack, or you do, you gotta give him credit for dealing with this situation in such a positive way. I think that the haters need to see this video and hopefully change all of their minds.
Great point
Zack seems to be a really standup guy!!! I am not sure why everyone gives him a hard time for doing something that he loves and dreamt about growing up.
Yeah he does not deserve all this hate. I am glad it seems like he does not get hurt by it either
It didn't do a thing for me.
When you use the term "haters" you arent to be taken seriously. Whether you like him or not; it's fair that folks are skeptical of a grown man running around trying to catch all homerun balls.
People that are like “He’s taking away opportunities for kids to catch their own baseballs” don’t understand that for the TH-cam generation, getting a ball from Zack Hample is probably as big a thrill for most kids as getting a ball from a random Marlins player they don’t really know, especially when the experience comes with an autograph and a picture. He’s a celebrity in his own right. Every celebrity has their haters. From what I can tell, Zack legitimately wants his fans and the people around him to have a positive experience.
Beautifully said! Thanks for the thoughtful take.
You don’t understand when I was 10 I went to a game and I almost got a ball and it ruined my day it wouldn’t feel much better if some 30 year old guy got it just to add to his score then gave it to me
Zach has always felt like a really kind motivated person that’s just doing what he loves. Not everyone will be able to fully understand his behavior and might look at it in a negative light without actually seeing how this man really is.
@@sarawilson8633 Aidan, where are you?!
Go to a Yankees Guardians game soon?
I'm glad you had a chance to prove the haters wrong. Keep doing what you do Zack because you have plenty of faithful fans!
I was a Hample Hater when I first heard about him... but after watching a few of these youtube vids everything changed. He's a genuine good guy. Thanks for the upload Zack!
Lots of people will change their mind if they just watch a few of his videos.
I honestly don’t know why so many people hate you Zack. You seem like a dude who loves baseball and collects balls and gives quite a few away. You’ve always seemed nice and I’ve met you once in Wrigley. Who cares what they think, keep being you!
I love his passion, that he gives pretty much all of the balls to kids. Gets recognized by players, seat upgrades etc. I would love to be him for a week!
You know, this was SUCH an amazing turn-of-events. Kudos to both of you. I appreciate Jared's honest reassessment of Zack. That takes integrity, which I believe Jared has. I wish him well in his journalism career. We need more people like him.
That's nice of you to say, and yeah, I give him props.
Now that was a fair article, Zack. He’s a talented writer, presented both sides of the issue, and gave a good description of your daily game routine. It was fun to read and he didn’t harbor any malice towards you. You can’t blame him for that negative headline that he did not create.
Keep making your fun videos. Haters are going to hate. It’s what they do. We all need a break from a world turned upside down.
Thanks, David! And you're right -- the writers aren't the ones who come up with headlines, but the first article was rather harsh (and untrue).
I LOVE when you Moss someone and then feel bad and then toss them the ball....Epic
Gotta give respect to the guy for giving you a chance even after saying negative things.
Yup, totally.
Hey Zack, love how you give time to the kids, that's why I love watching your video's they are just so much fun, and you can see how happy they are to meet you and to sometimes get a ball. I hope that the reporter got to see how you really are.
Thanks, that's nice of you to say.
"My kids love you"....a GREAT compliment Zach!
You’re a legend doing what you do for the young kids it speaks volume of when he donated all that money to the kids baseball 💯👌🏽🇦🇺
Zack
I feel for you. I work in a high profile position in the government and they frequently bash me rarely asking me for my side of the issue. Doesn’t matter because they usually get it wrong anyway.
Stay strong. There are way more positive people than negative. I appreciate what you do.
....Joe??
Yikes, your job sounds scary. Best of luck dealing with the crazies and thanks for the support.

Zach, you're awesome. I hope you continue to do this for a long time. You are a really cool dude for all the balls you give away. People flock to you when you show up to batting practice. That should have been all that reporter need to see lol. I deleted my last comment trying to edit it, but its pretty much the same. Take care my dude.
You are a blessing to this sport. Sometimes people see passion as a bad thing and they don’t see all the positive you bring to the Fans. You are the only reason I still watch some baseball. Rock on dude.
Thank you! I'm glad to help you enjoy this beautiful sport.
The only reason you watch MLB games is because of a ball hawk that makes TH-cam Videos ? That doesn't sound strange

Great move from Zack to invite along the reporter and massive respect for him accepting the invite. You get absolutely abused over on twitter and I wish more of those people would see this and how much the journalist enjoyed the experience. You really changed his mind about you just during BP alone. Great stuff!
Thanks! Massive respect indeed.
On october 3rd at minute maid park, Kyle schwarber, one of my favorite players, tossed me his warmup ball in the bottom of the 9th while sitting in the Crawford Boxes at Minute Maid...I'm fifteen years old and i was so excited to get my first ball at an Mlb game...the next night as we were leaving, a security guard literally gave me a ball and it was from the Astros 1,000 win at MInute Maid Park...I've gotten baseballs at two MLB games in a row and three Minor League Games...Zack Hample is my inspiration!!
@@sarawilson8633 thx...have you ever gotten a baseball at an MLB game?
That's awesome!! Way to go!
@@sarawilson8633 I hear you. Get that sweet view if you can.
@@zackhample Thanks so much for responding Mr. Hample...I'm sending you a letter soon!!
Dude you were right! My Padres did kick some butt! Go Padres! Beat the Dodgers!

Below, in the comments, Bryant Kaden made one of the greatest points about Zack I've ever read: "getting a ball from Zack Hample is probably as big a thrill for most kids as getting a ball from a random Marlins player they don’t really know, especially when the experience comes with an autograph and a picture." I thought the Post article written by Jared was good and accurately described his experience. Hopefully Jared learned that there are two sides to every story and perhaps he should investigate both sides before bashing an individual. Especially an individual who does nothing more than have fun at a baseball game and is more popular than most of the players on the field.
Thanks. That was indeed a legendary comment, and I appreciate your take on it as well.
like him or dislike him, Zack makes it interesting. tbh I thought he was cringy at first but I kept watching the videos and he got me back into baseball, made me miss everything that was fun about it and wanting to go to an actual game after almost 20 years. keep doing what you're doing Zack! 😎🤙
Thanks for giving me a chance.
I can't believe it. I thought about DM you to tell you I was going to that particular game but I finally didn't. And you were there!!!
Zack gives all of his ball he catches to kids, it’s not like he keeps them all. Keep up the work Zack 👏👏👏
Not all but damn-near close.
That’s epic you invited him out! I’ve been seeing the haters making videos on you. You’re always good with the children so I don’t know why the hate. It’s crazy
Those wannabe video creators are the worst -- they don't DO anything except talk (badly) about people who actually DO things.
@@zackhample exactly you nailed it on that one. It’s sad
Zack , the haters are just jealous that you go to all these games and they can’t. Keep making great videos
I've been watching your videos for a few months...so new this year...and two things I've noticed. 1: I love that you've made a "business" out of what you do. Sure, you need to have writer/video/editing skills and that's quite a bit...but how anyone could say you're bad for the game....I don't get it. 2: I love that you hustle all over for any ball...and when you get it, you hand it to the nearest kid. That stuff in Colorado...I still say it's a training issue for their staff. Onward to the rest of the playoffs! Keep on snagging Zack!
Thanks! The last few months have been nuts. Hopefully it's smooth sailing from here.
zach thanks for your help. i study your yankee stadium and citi field videos for batting practice. im actually going to the subway series game next wednesday so i mainly look at your citi field videos and see what areas are empty and where i can get tossups from. maybe ill see u next week
Amazing Filming of the Delta Fenway Chris
It's so funny watching this video and the Mets being out of it already lol 😆
The SeatGeek add was mets in the nlds 🤣😂
I already miss Citi Field, Zack, great video of the game, and about your dealing with the Post reporter!
Thanks, Jeff, and on your behalf I'm really sorry about that wild card series. 2023 is right around the corner.
Fenway Chris is a great camera guy.
The king of the ballhawks, Sir Zack Hample I
👋
I just don't know how somebody could hate you. Your videos are so entertaining, and your goal to collect baseballs is inspiring many.
@@sarawilson8633 for me he reinvigorated my love for baseball. I’m an orioles fan so many terrible seasons left me with boredom, but catching baseballs kind of “gamifies” otherwise boring games. He definitely inspired me to pursue ballhawking while still loving baseball for the spectator sports it is, but allows for an intimate personal collection through the goal of getting a ball. Each game that I got a ball is marked with that memory that I cherish from the thrill an excitement of getting that souvenir. For me he certainly sparked that interest and made a fan out of me and I’m sure I’m not the only one
I can see the arguments that his most adamant haters present. But it makes zero sense to hate someone who doesn't even cross your path or interfere with your life. But if you don't have haters, you aren't doing something right.
@@sarawilson8633 @tyler Seth You both make great points.

@@sarawilson8633 this is the most civilized comment thread on TH-cam. I love it! Absolutely, you do anything that much it becomes too much. I certainly don’t obsess over it as much as he does, but my livelihood is not dependent on it either like his is. I’ve noticed that zack loves to quantify things from his rubber band ball to his baseballs, even his wallpaper! I think that’s just the kind of guy he is. For me catching baseballs and that brief interaction with these players, the same players I looked up to as a kid and admire, makes me a part of the game. That’s something that is so unique to baseball and one of the many reasons for my love of it. As for the orioles, for the first time in a long time we have hope in Baltimore! You’re very kind and respectful I hope the best for your team moving forward as well.
After catching my first ball in 50 years of being a mets fan i gave it to a kid in the spirit of Zack! (2) grimace T- shirts too!❤
How can you not love Zack ❤
I think that what Zack does is great. You don't see many videos promoting the game from a fan perspective. I honestly think that these videos are great and there's no reason for any hatred.
Thanks, Cliff!
Thank you for posting I’m at a restaurant but it doesn’t stop me from watching your videos love your channel ❤
You are very welcome!
Great to see. Zack is the pied piper of ballhawking. Long may he reign! 🥳🏆🎉🎊
Haha, thanks.
Haters are going to hate. Keep up the good work.
@@sarawilson8633 I hope so!

Not surprised that Zack did this. Great idea. It’s ironic that there is such a misconception and such negativity -and yet…zack literally tapes most of his ballgame outings and interactions. Watch a couple videos and it’s hard to see nearly as much negative stuff as the Internet likes to provide, about him. It’s doubly easy to see the joy he brings to kids, his easy going passion, and his generosity. The more you learn about Zack, the more you like him. Point blank.
Unfortunately he’ll never break through one day and have nothing but fans, but I suspect he can enjoy his life to the fullest without needing everybody to like him or sign off on his life’s activities. Godspeed Zack.
Thanks, Cojack! That is a very smart and accurate take. Life is indeed good.
Cmon Zach, you’re just acknowledging the haters are getting to you

Zach!! i was sitting 3 rows behind you during this game but i dident recognize you at this game! LGM
Yes Zack is behind
All the wild card series have been played.
It's been great baseball!
A lot of people today, especially the media, forget how big of a joy sports games are for children. The players are heroes to them and they connect with their parents because of the bond they share in cheering on their favorite teams. I'm definitely not your biggest fan, but nobody can say that you are not good to the kids. All they have to do is watch your videos and see how much you give away and stop for photos. And it's all about the kids having a great time and being happy, and you don't do anything to hinder that, you actually add to their enjoyment. Therefore nob should ever throw you under the bus for being against kids.
You sound rough- hope youre feeling better, these things take some time to get over. Glad you're back confronting the naysaying!
my brother hates you but idk why cuz your one of my favorite youtubers, keep it up, you have one of the best jobs on the planet

Stinks that he previous wrote a negative article on you without actually meeting you. That's like telling us how good or bad an entree is without actually ever tasting it. His newest article is better and you actually get to defend yourself. But the fact people even hate you for wanting to catch baseballs absolutely blows my mind. Keep doing you Zack. I love watching the vids and hopefully run into you at a game sometime
Thanks! It's funny/sad that the people who write the worst articles about me never actually talk to me.
Zack, I have observed that a person's criticism, if not given in love, says way more about them than the object of their criticism. I haven't wwatched this all the way through yet. I'm savoring them as the season winds down. Thanks as always, Jim K in Nashville, TN

The internet is dumb. Glad you found me here where it really matters.
This video is funny considering it was posted the day after the Mets season ended. Hahahaha
A friend of mine is Jeff Mcneil's uncle. It was cool when the Mets came to Milwaukee to play and Jeff got to see his uncle see him play.

If you were truly generous, you would just let those people receive the baseballs instead of making yourself a conduit between those two things. It’s all performative, man

Those fans in New York heckle a ton more than me at baseball games. I basically yell "I Got It" during a fly ball or pop up trying to force the other team to get an error by dropping the ball or the ball falls right in front of them.
Yeah.
@@zackhample I Got It is something lots of people yell at baseball games when a fly ball happens. My dad hates it when I do it but its fun and appropriate.

Yeah. Awkward timing with this video, but oh well. The show must go on!
I like watching his videos. I find it odd that an adult cares that much about getting balls, but that's why he gets the big TH-cam bucks and I don't.
