These Wilderness editions are some of the most capable crossovers on the market by far! Would love to see some more comparisons between forester wilderness or crosstrek wilderness vs. Jeep Cherokee trailhawk, which may be toughest unibody competition. Don’t think the outback wilderness would compare too well with the Cherokee based on approach and departure angles though.
Heaps of cladding added on, only a 0.6 in lift, claimed more than doubled towing capacity with ZERO engine upgrade just a regear and trans oil cooler I've been waiting for awhile for the Wilderness too and I couldn't be more disappointed lol. I'll just add a Ironman 4x4 kit and get a 2in lift instead and add a trans oil cooler and I basically have a Wilderness with better clearance and virtually the exact same performance.
@AJ Who said anything about making it a rock crawler lol? It's a new Wilderness model which is supposed to make an already off road capable even more so but reasonably so. Been offroading in California, Oregon, Utah, Montana, Arizona and Nevada in every condition and my 22' Crosstrek Sport has gotten me through everything I've put it through. I've upgraded my rack for $700 (same weight rating as the Wilderness yet much more versatile) got a 2"lift kit I need to throw on for $1000 (vs the 0.6" lift lol) and could add a transmission oil cooler for $350 (dont see much reason because 1500lbs already puts a huge strain on the 2.5 engine and a regear and trans cooler arent going to improve that by much) and I'll have a better performing Crosstrek for $2k less lol. Add in the 5mpg lost the other Wilderness models have taken and the Crosstrek Wilderness easily is the worst of the group by a good margin.

Been hoping for a CT with a 3,500 pound towing capacity. While I love my Sport, it's limiting with the 1,500 pound towing capacity, especially when towing our PWC and upcoming camping trailer. I think I have my eye on a Wildness now. 👍👍👍
The American assembly line workers are experienced. The Indiana plant has been there for decades. The SIA plant was making Camrys for Toyota at one time

@MtnXfreeride Yeah I figured we wouldn't get the turbo in the smaller vehicle, especially since the bigger Forester didn't. I test drove an Outback Wilderness last year before the refresh and it's thrilling on acceleration up to just over 4200 rpms then it just falls off like it went staight to top gear. I guess it's the lower gearing but it feels like it's about to get fun, then nope. I would think they could tune the 2.5 to get 200 hp or a little more to be more spirited.
Subaru should market the Crosstrek as a vehicle that you can take offroading one day, and then change the tires and adjust the suspension and take to the track the next day. I honestly don't understand why they haven't seen into this yet. The crosstrek has such potential to not only be a sporty flagship model that excels at both offroading and on the track.
Hey Subaru, PLEASE bring back the Baja with the Wilderness trim. You won’t have to do the turbo if you add the Hybrid system from Toyota RAV4 or Venza like you’re doing to the 25 Forester.

@@chemuzio-ssir2015 That was a 6th gen refresh, not a redesign. The 7th gen redesign should drop for model year '25 or '26. For the Forester it will either be model year '24 or '25. Leaning toward the latter for both.
Incorrect. The crosstrek didn’t get a full sized spare or a front facing camera. Too major selling points if you actually use this for any sort of trails.

If the Forester keeps selling like it is now, I'd say that it could be offered as early as 2025. After all, there was a Forester XT (turbo) around for a few years back around 2015 - 2018 (?)

The Crosstrek will never get the turbo as it would strip sales from the Outback since that's the ONLY one with the turbo at this point. IF they add it to the Forester again and it does well there may be a turbo Crosstrek but at this point it's exclusive to the big boys and WRX/STi. I'm just saying I wouldn't wait.
Suggestion: think about what your needs are for an AWD vehicle, look at the specs for the three vehicles with the Wilderness option, then watch some reviews on TH-cam to get some feedback.

I originally was looking at the corolla cross for the pass month and now this is coming out. I think I'm going to be team subaru for life. does that signature bumper still fit a 2" hitch receiver for a proper 2 bicycle Thule rack without cutting the bumper to bits? Or is this only designed to carry bicycles up top?
I've never seen a Crosstrek hitch that required cutting the bumper to bits. The receiver usually protrudes from under the bumper. My 1st-gen Crosstrek has an EcoHitch that protrudes through the rear foglight opening, and it required minimal trimming. The cover still fits in the opening when I'm not using the hitch, so the hitch is completely invisible.

this Crosstrek Wilderness could be the start of the future after the death of the WRX STI (which to be real had evolved to be more of a road car) - a Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness has the makings of more of a mass market RALLY RAID style vehicle ie way cooler than WRC (much better value too and definitely preferable over the WRX model) - this just makes sense in a world of stringent road rules and speeding fines where sports car looks just signal "useless" outside of a track that people realistically don't bother going to, but rally raid looks can be just as unique, as well as appropriately, legally and less frustratingly tame on road, as well as very comfortable and versatile for adventure and enabling some fun off road - just continue to build your cars wider
I like sudaru , but... The cvt trans no good. Button start ,easy to steal car & Can't put the car in neutral when it's off. Electronic E-break mean no more fun. That car is just a novelty item now. Need a real car not another smart phone.
Absolutely love this but if it's catered to outdoorsy folks (like myself) why didn't you include a FULL spare!?! If I'm going to take it on trails and off the beaten path, a tiny spare isn't going to help me
A lot of off-roaders add a hitch tire carrier for a full size spare that matches what’s on the vehicle. Smart than to remove the small donut and increase fuel capacity.
It's great seeing the price compared to the competition. This is a total win for Subaru

The only thing missing is the front view camera. With relatively low front approach angle it’s crucial to have the front camera view for rough terrain

If I’m getting a new vehicle, it’s gonna be between a Ford Maverick or one of these wilderness Subies.
To achieve the towing capacity, an additional engine oil and transmission cooler is added.

3500lbs of towing capacity will be a nice upgrade. My 2017 Crosstrek struggles with a trunk full of groceries. I think its capacity is 1k max.

this Crosstrek Wilderness could be the start of the future after the death of the WRX STI (which to be real had evolved to be more of a road car) - a Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness has the makings of more of a mass market RALLY RAID style vehicle ie way cooler than WRC (much better value too and definitely preferable over the WRX model) - this just makes sense in a world of stringent road rules and speeding fines where sports car looks just signal "useless" outside of a track that people realistically don't bother going to, but rally raid looks can be just as unique, as well as appropriately, legally and less frustratingly tame on road, as well as very comfortable and versatile for adventure and enabling some fun off road - just continue to build your cars wider
How can they call it "Wilderness" when it doesn't come factory standard with a roof ring mount for a thirty caliber general purpose machine gun?

Can't put the car in neutral when it's off.
Electronic E-break mean no more fun.
That car is just a novelty item now.
Need a real car not another smart phone.

Absolutely love this but if it's catered to outdoorsy folks (like myself) why didn't you include a FULL spare!?! If I'm going to take it on trails and off the beaten path, a tiny spare isn't going to help me
Size of the vehicle. The undersized spare barely fits in the Impreza/Crosstrek as it is.
A lot of off-roaders add a hitch tire carrier for a full size spare that matches what’s on the vehicle. Smart than to remove the small donut and increase fuel capacity.
