They get rid of Kang (Johnathan Major) 40 minutes after his conviction.
They get rid of Johnny Depp out of 3 movies WITHOUT ANY CONVICTION.
But the keep Amber in her movie a whole year after she's been convicted in court, very publicly.
See any difference of treatment here?!?! I would dare to say, absolute total injustice.

The first film in 2018 had Geoff Johns as producer as he and Peter Berg were in charge after Snyder was ousted. Then Johns and Berg were sacrificed when the WB brass had to blame anyone but itself for Justice League's failure the year before in 2017.

Not surprised to hear Aquaman 2 is mediocre. This movie might flop harder than even the Flash. Amber Heard has even more heat than Ezra Miller and theres more Superhero fatigue than ever.
Plus this movie doesn't even matter, since James Gunn is restarting the DC universe. Though i think that reboot is doomed as well.

The amber heard thing is annoying too. Ppl are just gonna blame her for it flopping when really the DCeu always flopped. After Aquaman 1, they didn't have 1 hit. Shazam did ok but didn't set the world on fire. And since then, everything they made flopped. It's because of bvs. BVS literally lost the entire audience in one film

"Superhero fatigue" is what Hollywood calls it when people refuse to buy their garbage. Hollywood seems to learn the wrong lessons in general. Superman 1978 was great. Superman 2 was arguably better. Then the studio went comedic and brought in Richard Pryor and the environmental message, and the quality tanked. Then they brought in the antiwar message and people were done watching. They could have run that franchise for years and years going through the superman rogues gallery and people would have kept showing up, but instead they had to throw in the message of the day and that was that. It is not just superhero movies. The stargate franchise is probably one of the most transparent examples of this. Stargate had a movie that was OK. Then SG-1 came out and grew into an awesome show that blended all the things into a great package. People loved it and could have rivaled shows like Doctor Who. But the show got really expensive so they created atlantis, which was good. Then BSG came out, with a dark gritty tone. It was at this point the showrunners for stargate decided they wanted a BSG clone, and cloned it into Stargate Universe. It had nothing in common with the formula of the SG shows that came before it and people did not like it as a stargate show. It might have worked as a standalone show. Ratings tanked. Instead of coming away with "People don't like a dark and gritty stargate show" the powers that be came away with "People don't like stargate anymore", and promptly cancelled the properties people actually wanted. The SG-1 movie and the atlantis movies. There is, to this day a market for actual stargate content, just not a clone of some other property rebranded. And that also applies to superhero movies. Marvel killed the chances of actually doing all the really great stories to push a message nobody wants. DC tried to skip ahead to the grand universe without building the foundation. The death of superman arc was one movie, the second movie in the franchise, and tied into the Batman v Superman arc. Had they taken their time and done it right, it would have been awesome.

@@matthewdaley746 The same writers wrote 3 as 1 & 2. There is no amount of directorial polish that could make 3 & 4 shine. They had a hit and they wanted to make a statement.
Hollywood is a very dysfunctional place with conflicting goals. Actors get paid for movies, but want to be in films. Studios want to change the world by narrative but need to make money.
Actors receive praise and awards for doing movies people do not want to see, but that demonstrate the actor's range and abilities. Audiences do not care if you can perfectly portray an angsty, lesbian, petunia that is going through a midlife crisis. I am certain that is very difficult to do, but it is also very boring. People go to see movies that involve action, thrills, chills, a story, maybe a twist or two. Michael Bay movies are the entertainment version of fast food, but they are entertaining. Art house flicks are like the broccoli.
Some studios stay in that lane and give the people what they want, other studios use the hook of entertainment to preach. Others still just follow the trends in the hopes they get to make money and preach by doing what everyone else is doing. It cycles between one genre to the next until it starts back over again.
I fully expect Hollywood to make the same mistakes this go around as last. After the marvels bombed, and Godzilla Minus one was a surprising hit, I expect to see a story about a Gay Kaiju that is facing discrimination for being brown any day now. I don't expect them to get the actual message that people want movies and not messages.

Honestly it’s been a wild messy ride with the DCEU and although I do like most of the movies, I’m glad that we’re finally starting fresh with a plan in slate although I am worried that the new universe may last very short considering Superman Legacy might bomb or underperformed since it’s being made in the wrong time with audiences now feeling burned out/fatigued by superhero movies, wanting something different other than Superhero movies and the fact that WB (and even James Gunn to a slight degree lately) have burned so much trust on both fans and casual audiences.

I don't believe there is "superhero fatigue" in cinema. I think it's more like "mediocre superhero film fatigue".
When cinema artists who give a damn about the work are given the reigns, the films will be good again, and people will be happy about that.
When films are mediocre, people are not happy.
With James Gunn at the reigns there's a lot of reasons to feel optimistic about whatever DC does in the near future.
And as for Marvel, again, they just need to give control to better cinema artists and this downturn will end; every film studio has periodic ups and downs. This isn't my opinion, it's cinema history. Marvel will recover. Hopefully sooner than later.

Ive recently seen this AQUA MAN 2 & I generally liked it
was it entertaining? yes was there plenty of "spectacle" yes again, (although too much at times, riding on sea horses etc), they turned the visual sillyness dial up even more than the 1st film, this time,
As for the actual story/plot, as so often hapens, they repeated too much of the original film's story, BUT again the new aspects worked, I expected...Orm to be more Brotherly now understanding that he had been badly advised by his father, but this is where they repeat themselves, I don't know what the politics about Amber Herd is all about, she has a strength as an actress that I like (she would make a great RED SONJA) her private life doesnt affect her acting ability & she's never drippy like say Laura Dern
This one is noticably darker than the 1st film, but that suited it, being a sequel.

I’m seeing a lot of comments here stating that superhero fatigue isn’t real and isn’t the reason for these recent superhero movies tanking. These folks don’t realize that superhero fatigue and bad movies are not mutually exclusive. Superhero fatigue is absolutely real and these movies are absolutely garbage. Many of my friends and myself included all have superhero fatigue which started as early as the second avengers movie for some of us. Too much of a good thing will absolutely cause fatigue. Even if these movies were amazing, the box office returns still would be down compared to the height of the superhero genre. Both of these are huge factors and we should not be naive enough to think that great superhero movies will return the genre back to its former glory.

I saw Aquaman 2 and I liked it. Similar to the first movie but a ton more cgi which I love. I was entertained and escaped reality for a couple hours....mission accomplished :)

Same but where I am living a movie is $4usd so questionable movies don't hurt as much as the $10ish in the US.

And i am really disappointing of your score for a 5, the movie deserves a better score for the effort and storyline, and i know you are such a bias of Henry Cavill for excluding Brandon in uour intro

So my twin brother and I just saw AquaMan 2 The Lost Kingdom and we really liked it. I love when Arthur tricks Orm into eating a cockroach while they're running for their lives in the jungle. Could've done without the baby piss jokes though.

It's not the people have "superhero fatigue" It's that people have far far less money right now so movies have to work that much harder to get attention from viewers because people can't afford to go out to the movies anywhere near as much as they used to.
I don't think it's fair to paint the whole genre with the DECU brush. Thats a case of a franchise thats been mishandled to it's core.
Also, Avatar 2 is not a fair comparison as that movie was years andf years in the making with an insane budget behind it.
I know every film school stan wants risky indie projects to dominate but thats is simply not going to happen. COVID and the Strikes decimated Hollywood. More then ever they are going to head towards safe bets. This is an industry that is very very much a business. Even A24 the indie darling is moving towards safer blockbusters now.

Damn Right, James Cameron's films always have a pedestal that others can't match, and, next year will be the worst year for films since 2020, terrible.

Maybe. I was a huge comic book fan ~ '76-84 and a big movie fan, too, who really got into the Marvel stuff up until Endgame and the first Spidey flick. But after seeing the entire friggin universe saved, I was exhausted. A big Dr Strange fan (and Sam Ramey), and I haven't even seen the second one, or any Marvel film ever since. For now, I'm just not interested, even being able to see them on a big projector screen at home.
