Massive divide between Chinese critics and American critics on this...Chinese critics put it on par with The Batman while American critics put in on par with Black Adam 😂
I’m with you, Sean. I’m so mad at WB for how they handled not just this movie but the whole ending of the DCEU. Such disrespect to the fans and the creatives who invested in these films for the last decade.
I’m very excited for Gunn’s vision for the DCU. But I am kinda bummed that we’re not going to see the conclusion to the DCEU. I really liked many of the DCEU movies, it just needed more structure and better consistency. I think it could’ve worked with a few minor tweaks.
That is the reason I'm not excited about WB's New Superhero Movie, they can just throw away the Connective Movie just like that without any conclusion making other previous Movies unwatchable. Atleast in MCU, you can at least make a conclusion a better Conclusion in the Endgame if you didn't watch the movie that follow up, making the other previous movies rewatchable.
The Flash was the conclusion. It ends with Barry messing everything up, again. And ended up in George Clooney’s universe. And everyone we knew in the DCEU either vanished or is stuck in that universe.
A stone has fallen from my heart. After all the hype, I went into the cinema with some trepidation and came out really happy. I didn't like it as much as the first part (it would be difficult, because it is still my favorite movie from the DC universe), but in my opinion they got as much out of this movie as they could. The only thing I really missed about this movie was that it didn't have that good camera work (which is Wan's selling point). The fight scenes on land in the first part were shot in these extraordinary long takes where the camera was flying like crazy without cutting, and in this film we probably have only one such sequence. But I appreciate the horror moments. And the thought of DC ending makes me very sad, there were so many perfect castings. I can't imagine someone new playing the role of Aquaman, much less playing the role of Harley Quinn. And I really wanted another adventure with the new suicide squad. Pity...
I expected to hate it, but found it be bombastic fun and surprisingly enjoyable. James Wan’s dynamic camera work and action choreography elevate it way above almost everything Marvel released this year. He understands what these movies are and leans into it. There is so much fun design work in the creatures and environments too. One standout example was the homage to the Star Wars cantina.
It's a shame how many awesome DCEU movies we lost out on because of WB's cmincompetence. I've always preferred DC to Marvel but the studio just butchered it
They made pretty much nothing but pieces of shit, with the exception of Aquaman 1, Wonder Woman 1, and Zack Snyder's Justice League (which they attempted to murder). With that kind of track record, there's nothing to do but wipe the slate clean and start over.
Love your videos Sean! This is the exact reason why James Gunn should just release the Ayer Cut of Suicide Squad. It would be a good send off to the followers of this series that wanted to see what David Ayer’s true vision was and move on to whatever is going to happen under James Gunn #releasetheayercut
Without spoiling anything - I found it funny how they gave Amber Heard a couple of scenes where the characters are in desperate need of help and then she shows up to save the day. It felt like those moments in theaters where people would start cheering - yet I don’t think will be happening due to people’s hatred of Amber
The ticket sales for local showings the next few days are laughably bad. Just when I think Shazam 2 and Blue Beetle set the bar low, Aquaman is somehow even worse considering it's the holiday weekend.
@@jjjones8609 It has also outgrossed both Blue Beetle and Shazam 2 combined, along with The Flash. Still not great, but nowhere near the embarrassment most were expecting.
I’m not expecting this one to be mind blowing, especially considering the first Aquaman isn’t a great film. However, it’s kind of nice to have the DCEU come to an end. Rewatching all of the DCEU over the past two months, it’s unfortunate how all of it turned out. Hopefully the DCU is the DC continuity that DC deserves.
I guess I'm the only person in the world who thought Mamoa and Heard had good chemistry in the first film... (And I say this as someone who was most certainly NOT on Heard's side in the real-life drama that happened later).
I like their chemistry too and thought she was great at Mera. She was so beautiful. I don;t like her as a person but she was great at the role and chemistry was great. People just cant admit she good cuz they hate her so much.
I loved this movie! My new 2nd favorite DCEU movie. My top 5: 1. The Suicide Squad 2. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom 3. Aquaman 4. The Flash 5. Shazam Fury of the Gods
Sean your review is extremely spot on. If anyone found the first Aquaman movie fun and entertaining then they will enjoy this one as well even though its much messier. 7/10 for me.
Just saw the film. Good review Sean and I respect your opinion. A-: While definitely a bit messier and only serving a standalone sequel, Aquaman 2 is still a funny action film thanks to Momoa's and Wilson's chemistry.
I liked it and I agree that it was a good follow-up to the first Aquaman, which was one of my favorite DCEU movies. My feelings about the DCEU are very mixed because I felt they got so much wrong in the first 3-4 movies, but there were some really good movies sprinkled throughout. But the way that Discovery/WB, James Gunn, and Peter Safran announced the end of the DCEU and the start of the DCU was such an awkward and distasteful experience (not to mention the negative press surrounding their treatment of Batgirl and Westworld), it feels like watching someone (WB) try to rehabilitate a wounded animal, seeing the animal make progress and nearly recover, then someone else (Discovery) buys the animal and euthanizes it despite the progress it was making. And then there's 2023 which I view as the year that comic book movies died and I can't help but feel that the saturation of flopping DCEU movies in particular largely contributed to bringing down the whole genre with their contribution (no less than 4 DCEU movies) to the overcrowded blockbuster year.
I think Aquaman is lame but the fist movie was ok though it was soooooo cliche and corny. And this one even more so, seriously what happened to this? This is definitely not the movie James Wan wanted to make. I’m glad the DCEU is over and now we’re moving onto a new, great era of DC.

I'll have to disagree on your first point. I was a pretty big fan of the first movie and thought this one was an awful, boring, incoherent mess. The earnest charm of the first film got replaced by obnoxious humour you'd find in a bad Marvel movie. What an ironically fitting way to end a drunk, blubbering mess of a franchise with an equally drunk and blubbering mess of a movie. What a massive letdown.
I think DCEU struggling to do sequel. All the sequels are lower than the originals (Aquaman, Shazam, Wonder Woman) and they all came from the same directors of each franchise
What a missed opportunity to at least close out the DCEU on a positive note. The last few movies have been a slap in the face to the fans. So you tell us around or after Black Adam that this iteration of the DC universe is ending and want us to still watch 3 or 4 more movies? What I would have done is have The Flash be the closing point to the DCEU, give us one more battle in the beginning of that movie with all of the Justice League members as a goodbye to the fans and then have it end on it now being in the new DC multiverse. Now we just have a random Aquaman with no connection to anything that ends on a stupid mid credit scene. Sad.
This was better than the first imo, but i hated the first so that didnt take much. I just found it extremely boring. The big villain had an incredible set up but then how it was defeated was just so disappointing And completely ruined it for me. Having the entire DCEUs final scene be a joke left me annoyed too. 3/10

I wanted to see it so badly. I wanted to believe that aha was cut. But I heard in time that she is still in it throughout. She was horrible in the first one. Always love Jason. He deserves better❤
DCEU has been a mixed bag but honestly not a dumpster fire like everyone says except with the handling of its closure - James Gunn completely self sabotaging it. Ive enjoyed the Superman unofficial trilogy (flawed though), WW1, the Harley Quinn unofficial trilogy (also flawed), the two Aquaman movies, and I even liked the Flash. All were fun watching on the big screen. Never saw the Shazam movies and the only two awful ones were WW2 and Black Adam.
I went into this movie with low expectations because of the mixed reviews. So I expected it to not be good at all. And I was pleasantly surprised. It wasn’t bad at all in my opinion. Not the best movie ever, not amazing, but still pretty good. I still think the first Aquaman is better, but I still enjoyed this one
Medicore comic book movie fatigue is real. Give us as many Winter Soldier/Civil War/Infinity War/Dark Knight style movies as you want and I’ll buy a ticket to every single one. Only CBM I went out of my way to see this year was Ant-Man (which I regretted) and GOTG3 which was phenomenal and I ended up seeing it 3 times. Nothing else caught my attention.
The global warming stuff was definitely on the nose, but it didn’t feel contrived IMO. I feel like this fictionalized version of Orichalcum represents oil and the damage that our methods of extracting oil does so it tied into the overall plot pretty well to me
I saw that 2018 Aquaman movie in theaters, I don't remember much about it, except 1 of my fav. actors Dolph Lundgren was in it. I also remember they filmed some under-water scenes and little bit about Jason Momoa. If I remember right, in that movie there was end-fight, but I can't remember anymore, who was bad-guy, after all 2018 is now 5 years ago.

Some people are blind
This movie 🍿 sucks
I am glad there will never be any more DC films in my lifetime
There will be soon enough
Where was Volco?
I agree with the kid
I went into this movie with low expectations because of the mixed reviews. So I expected it to not be good at all. And I was pleasantly surprised. It wasn’t bad at all in my opinion. Not the best movie ever, not amazing, but still pretty good. I still think the first Aquaman is better, but I still enjoyed this one
Salaar review please.....!
I feel like this fictionalized version of Orichalcum represents oil and the damage that our methods of extracting oil does so it tied into the overall plot pretty well to me
I love your shirt!!
