Personally, this F1 point system will be great for NASCAR considering the good competitiveness that this championship have, also because nowadays drivers doesn't care much if he finishes out of Top 10 because it's still scoring good points if he finishes in Top 20. Unfortunately NASCAR will go to death with the Playoff format.

This current point system was brought into F1 specifically to promote winning. There’s a history of points systems in F1, with three main eras: 1-6, 1-8 and 1-10.
The modern system came into force in 2010 when points extended from 1-8 to 1-10 and the structure changed.
Vintage F1 (Lauda, Senna, Prost, etc) had a 9-6-4-3-2-1, system which became 10-6-4-3-2-1 in 1991. 6 points paying places is a small number, however during this time, 26 cars typically started the race, and about half the field retiring was the norm.
Many quite bad teams used to get the occasional point, simply because of the mechanical unreliability of all cars at the time, even if they had to finish in the top 6.

I did this myself back in 2012, although I didn't save the race-by-race data, just the final season totals. I remember that 1989 was a really fun season to watch, with Rusty, Dale and Darrell all finishing within about ten points of each other. 1999 had the closest points finish ever, with Bobby Labonte edging out DJ by just half a point! And winning isn't everything here: Terry Labonte still won 1984 with just two wins, and on two occasions a driver with one win won the title. As a general rule, whoever has the most top threes will win.

  • @DannyPlaysStuff

Honestly whatever the points distribution would be I'm always all in for points system that rewards consistencies above others.
It's just that simple, best drivers are measured not only by their wins, but their ability to capitalize the maximum points available if wins are not within their reach. And that's how you grab people's attention....
Solid job Darien, hope you could turn this into a series....
A suggestion tho, with every race finish clip you showed, you should include the live championship points as it stands after every finish so that we could see the progress.

I’ve always liked F1’s points cause when one team isn’t utterly dominating it actually makes the championship interesting. Even 2018 was interesting till Vettel’s S🅱️inella
Rewards winning while also rewarding consistency
For nascar I’d extend it to the top 15 getting points but after that you get a fat 0. I’m of the opinion that if you don’t finish or finish way down the order you don’t deserve points.
If you don’t score any points your average finish should determine where you place at the end of the season.

Did Mark Martin ever win a title in this format? I'm asking for myself...LOL

I think 2003 would be a good one to look at, kenseth winning once and Newman and Johnson taking the sport by storm

The points need to go further than 10th with a field twice the size of F1

Even if it came down to the final race (remember that this is hypothetical) had things play out differently in 2014, I think Gordon would have won it (he pitted from the lead to give the playoff drivers a chance at winning)

They should. It's simple. Most points for winner. Win enough and you get a championship. Why is this so hard

Do you have the document that has points from everyone that season?

I already know that Harvick wouldn't have won in 2014 but he would have done so in 2015

I’d really like NASCAR to award no points for drivers outside the top 20, 25, or 30.

I literally watched F1 videos all day and go back to home and found this video at the top. Freakin weird 😂. But love the videos

There's a reason F1 is the ONLY series in the WORLD to NOT give EVERY driver points. Even IndyCar gives last place points.

This would make Nascar MUCH more watchable and MUCH less of a gimmick, garbage racing series.
The racing itself can be great.
Playoffs, stages, etc just ruin it all.

I think it would be uncharacteristic for NASCAR to have F1 points.
