hey man glad you managed to get the hang of setting this up if you dont remember i sent you the links because i tried doing the ps1 disc swap method but realized i didnt have the right ps2 model and then discoverd this because it works on all models and its super easy and you can easily use one hard drive (just make a folder named ps1 games etc) even if you have ur ps2 games installed on them with the partition and so on thanks for your tutorials as you have tought me the basics of ps2 modding keep up man! :D
Hey Versatile! Believe it or not, I suggested this to you back when you were at GameDexterity! Those were the days... Anyways, I actually commission the PS2PSXe compatibility list on PSX-Scene but there have been no entries lately. Great tutorial though, I know that it will help a lot of people!
your'e my retro modding god :D Because of Your Videos I now mod my Konsoles after Years of Ownership. I love it ! thanks for this videos. More pls ^^ you got my sub! :) sry for my terrible english xD
Can the PS1 games be iso or chd or do they always gotta be bin files? Thanks so much for your tutorials I have been doing modding to me and my friends ps2's that we dug out during this crazy time you are awesome!
Looks like I'll be doing this for sure. I have many ps1 games already on a hdd, now to put them on a flash drive since I don't want to use the hdd. Do component cables effect the video for ps1 using this method?
So I did exactly what you said and let me first say excellent tutorial, quick, precise and well spoke. I did however run into a few snags when playing a couple games, do you know if certain games aren't compatible with the emulator? I heard you say that it does have some hiccups but in this instance it would simply not proceed to the game play, the game loaded to the start menu then wouldn't play, any thoughts? thanks again
this doesn't work great as POPSTARTER look in his channel for tutorials about it AND you can look for me in here PlayStation Homebrewing discord.gg/JJnvEN8
Hey Versatile, great vid never knew of this method for running PS1 backups (i still use the swap trick with my slim PS2), looks very similar to OPL. Is there a recommended file type to use, for example does .BIN/.CUE run better than .CCD?
Nice tutorial yo. I got one of the games working but it's pretty slow. I'm trying to run Tekken 3 and the game lags alot and there is no Music. Do you think this is a problem with the BIOS or System config? If it's the BIOS, what should I change? SHould I use the PS2 Bios? Where can I find the PS2 Bios?
I did this myself when this tutorial was never made been having issues wit playing games on it but now since you made this tutorial I shall try it again.
So I tried this for the first time with Spyro 3. Did everything you said, and when I started the game, the screen went black and it started playing a really catchy techno song. I really dig the song, but it ain't Spryo 3 lol. I must've just got a shotty file, I'll try again with a different one. Ever heard of this happening?
***** Spyro 3 maybe just doesn't work. I tried other games, and it's great! I want to thank you though, you've helped me out a lot in a few of you videos. You're voice is very clear, and your directions are always spot on.
its not working. i test the game apocalypse. the game have lags, the sounds are broken, its not loading textures right and its loading to long. what can i do to fix that?
you could copy the files from this program to your fat ps2 harddrive and it would load faster playing the games . great tutorial. i did that btw using the file browser on free mcboot
Hey buddie! I did everything you say. I installed Re3 but I cant play it stabile. Game freezing after open 2nd door. It causes from game or did I do something wrong?

can you also save your games or do you need a ps1 memory card? I have a ps2 soft moded and I am using ESR to launch .iso and .bin files but i also wanna play ps1 games... thanks for the tutorial

Pretty awesome. This definitely looks like the easiest method. That leaked PSOne emu probably has the best compatibility but POPS-00001 looks too difficult to install. Emulators work great on computers but configuring a controller can take up to 10 minutes sometimes. Avg size of a ps1 game is about 400mb so a 32gb usb drive can store 50 games and they go up to 128gb.
***** I recently tried this out and it's successful. Bummer that the audio doesn't work for FMV though. Do you know if the audio works for those movies on the HDD compared to the usb flash drive?
Does it (ps2psxe) need to be put on a thumb drive or can it be loaded on to the external hard drive that's storing the ps2 isos and launched from there?
Whenever I run the GUI I just get a quick flash and then a black screen I tried looking into popstarter, and hit a wall when the decrypted binaries were nowhere to be found.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I can find PS1 files already in bin/cue form, since my main sites only really have them as ccd files, and this method doesn't really work. The emulator doesn't seem to like reading .ccd files.
Stupid question, but can .bin files be flashed in the same hdd partition as the ps2 .iso files? Or do I have to make a separate partition just to keep ps1 games in my hdd?
+Project Phoenix Media That's what I figured, but I can't copy my games to the root of the folder of where my PS2 games are, so I'm going to see if I can dump my games in the _boot folder and see where it goes.
First, I would like to say that I have used two of your tutorials (FHDB and Upgrade Your Free McBoot Version) and they both have worked without issues. I however have moved away from the PS2PSXe emulator and have been researching the Popstarter rev. 13 emulator. From what I have read, it is easier and has less problems with running the PS1 games. My problem is that I am having a problem adding a partition (folder) to the root on the PS2 harddrive. I click R1 on the root and/or "hdd:/" and I get the option screen that allows you to "create, remove, rename,....etc" but nothing is highlighted for me to choose anything. I need to create a "_.POPS" partition/folder in the same area as "_common:/ and _sysconf:/" area, in order to get this to work. I help to your help in how to this. I have tried using Hdd Manager and UlaunchHDD without any success. Thanks in advance for your help. You may also want to look into this and make a video tutorial about PopStarter, I am sure that alots of followers that would appreciate it. Thanks.
***** That is exactly what I am saying. I am not able to create a folder directory in the root of the PS2 harddrive using ulaunchelf. What am I doing wrong? I have no issues adding a folder to any of the partitions that are already in the root directory. For example, I can add a folder to "_common" or "_sysconf:/" directory without any problems, just use "R1" and select..."Create". But when I try to add a directory to the root, I get the menu screen but can not select any of the options to create, rename, or anything. I am using FHDB 1.94, ulaunchHDD 4.42e.I am running everything from the harddrive (no flashdrive or memory card). Can you try to add a folder to your root directory, the directory that has "_common:/ and _sysconf:/" and tell me what I am doing wrong? Any help will be appreciated. I also read that I may need to use a special ulaunchelf called ulaunchElf 4.42 evil. Do you know of this and how does it work? Anyway, thanks again in advance.
***** This is the partition/directory that I'm trying to create: Path: hdd0:/_.POPS/. Unable to create this with ulaunchelf or hdd manager. Can this be added to the FHDB 1.93 img before loading it on PS2 harddrive? Just trying to think of a way to add this. Let me know, thanks.
***** I finally got Popstarter to work. Got help over at Assemblergames. Anyway, I'm early in the process but things are running alot smoother than PS2PSXe. You should research this, post a tutorial and move past PS2PSXe. Just my opinion.
Hi! I've tried Hogs Of War (PAL italian version) and it's full of graphical glitches, some music, sound effects and speeches don't play or play the first second or they stutter. Also the game lags on FMVs and a bit in-game. Do you know if this can be fixed?
I put emulate sound but I only hear the game effects (shooting etc) but no music and no speaking. Game is Duke Nukem Time to Kill. Same happens to Soul Reaver. I test with an old 1GB Kingston USB drive. All work fine besides half sounds. ps... also where the game saves? it recognizes that there is a memory card but what's the memory card emulation folder? or it just recognizes PS2 memory card?
***** PSX launcher? Is that another way to run it or different emulator to play PS1 games on PS2 with USB? I mostly do all this because I want to keep all my 4 PS1s in working order lol I figure it will be impossible to find a laser in a couple of years if it breaks down... Same for my PS2 but so far I've only managed to make my PS2 playing from internal hard drive with network adaptor. ps... I watched your walkthrough about playing PS2 games from usb hard drive. I put OPL.9 on usb stick and then I go to settings as you shown on the other video. When I press 2 times O though... nothing happens. It doesn't take me to that list of games like you. Also I dunno how to put it on memory card lol
Works, glitchy.. but works none the less. Tried a few games, FFVII works although the sound is distorted, and some lag. Xmen Vs Street fighter no lag, but sound issues and weird screen glitches. Evil Zone.doesn't boot at all. I will be testing more games but what Ive found is NOT all PSX games work with his emulator. I heard its in Beta so... more updates and compatibility to come hopefully

this is easier than popstarter method imo
thats awsome! one last thing if i want to emulated the cheat code is that possible to put gameshark cue or bin files to change the disk?

How about popstarter?
@@ProjectPhoenixMedia I once tried to install it but it didn't work. One day, I'm gonna try again however
Hi I followed your tutorial and everything ran perfect! Only problem is how do you load your save data from your memory card? Thanks! :)
Yeah I have a real PS1 memory card. I have save data from the game I'm playing off the USB on it but it won't load.
I mostly do all this because I want to keep all my 4 PS1s in working order lol
I figure it will be impossible to find a laser in a couple of years if it breaks down...
Yep... I don't want to use disk at all. So let's hope the PSX emulator will be worked more ;)
Can i play games from different regions using this?
nice tutorial got it working ez
I have a question is the ps2psxe playstation programm free.
Thx man
dude can you give me the compatibility list of games with this program, because popstarter has a lot of game that does not work with it.
Will it need a ps1 memorycard?
Can i put all the files in a folder except of the root
