Been running an AEM kit for about a year now. Not hard to tune for, works awesome. It allowed me to reduce IDC's, lean out the AFR and add a boatload of timing. All of that means tons more power. Worth every penny, all day, any day.
i about to install one. what tune do you recommend? i m currently running a unitronic stage 2 b9 a4 atm

Yes you can use them on NA vehicles as well and you are correct the benefits and nozzle size selection would be different than a boosted engine.
Not near as much benefit on NA though obviously

Where do you most often install the meth nozzle; Compressor inlet, or post intercooler? Also, since it creates a slower burning combustion event, more ignition timing must be added, correct?
This kit works on both professional and daily driven vehicles. However you will typically see a larger benefit from more modified vehicles.
Is there specific kits that will fit specific vehicles or are the ones you guys carry universal?
AND you can spray water on the front of your turbo's intercooler to drop the inlet temperature as well. Subaru does it on their WRX.

The methanol has two roles in the injection system. It does cool the intake charge, but it also increases the octane level of the fuel as well.

i have a couple videos about water/meth injection... for some reason people really like to hate on what they do not understand, instead of learning. they buy products and want to pretend like everything they have is the best but have no idea why.

Cool vid, I had always wondered how meth increased the amount of boost the engine could handle.
The knock suppression ability also let's you run a leaner mixture as well as more timing. Rather than running rich for the "cooling effect" of the extra gas you can rely on the water/meth mixture to keep temps in check. Water takes a lot more energy (heat) to vaporize than gas. But of course most tuners heads explode when you tell them you want to run leaner than 12:1 in a turbo application with water/meth injection...

rimwrecka100590 general consensus is to stay at less than 12.8 afrs for turbo applications to avoid knock. This is because it is difficult for someone to grasp temperature differences of the airfuel mixture. Basically, they are relying too much on afrs to gauge how much more boost or timing one can run.

Great video, I honestly thought meth injection was like a form of Nitrous but I was completely wrong, it's like getting water sprayed on u on a hot day while working out so u can focus a little better on power than heat...Freakin great!
@sergsrt8 Detonation can result in a pretty catastrophic failure, but the damage is done by multiple, small events, not one huge explosion in a cylinder. Think of it more like it's chipping away at the ring land or dome of the piston. Either way when a piston lets go, it's a big deal!

Can you drive your car without filling the methanol tank? Just drive on pump fuel? Also how do you mix the meth and water to make the appropriate amount or do you buy it premixed?

no it doesn't replace gas...you will be able to use the less expensive gas with the added methanol plus when tuned get lots more power

Yes the kit can be used with just water. On a gasoline engine you would like to have a 50/50 mix of water/meth however on a diesel it sees less benefit from Methanol and can be used with just water with nice gains.

I want to use this for my 20yr old Subaru H6. I know its got a carbon problem because I get detonation (with 93 octane gas) over 2400 rpm when under load if the temperature is over 40F outside. I get no detonation in cool rainy conditions when the rain is a superfine mist. Most of the time it runs too hot and eats up spark plugs too soon. Why would I pay for a complete rebuild on a car worth $1500 when water/meth will most likely fix the problem? But I have no idea where to put the nozzle when I buy it.
Yes, but you would need to do individual cylinder injection points and also have it completely programmable in RPM and load. At that point you would be much better off just running pure methanol in your vehicle as your fuel. This must be tuned of course
What controls the amount of methanol? Is the manually controlled via a button or switch like nos or is it running all the time and adjusts to the throttle?
Yes. As in: it depends on how it was set up. The cheaper/easier system would be always on (above certain RPM), but if you really want to feel special, you could have a system designed (and an ECU programme created) that would allow you to manually turn it on and off. NOS systems can be used the same way. Outside of drag racing, low-pressure NOS systems slowly deliver NO2 for the entirety of a multi-lap race. NOS and Water/Meth injection can work in much the same way in this case. In fact, NOS provides better cooling.

The consumption rate of the WM will depend on your start and full pressure settings, and ultimately your driving habits. Typically our 1.15 gallon tank will last for the length of a tank of gas. Our standard controller is boost dependent, meaning you set the boost pressure you want the WMI to start flowing at, and the pressure you want full flow at. The controller then interpolates these two points to deliver a linear fuel flow curve between the start and full pressure points. You can also use our Multi-Input Controller to set start and full pressure from MAF reading or IDC.

@mrxbrightside mostly turbo/supercharged cars because they are prone to more heat and detonation. but if you have a highly modified NA with very High compression pistons then it will help stop detonation. the old hotroders from the 1950s used to use this system to stop detonation so its nothing new. also WW2 fighter jets used water injection as well

@TheAristotleQ Ok so I was a off with the amount of fuel that it replaces but it does make a difference in economy and the amount of fuel you have to dump in order to make the same power. The best benefit is the knock prevention and the ability to up the boost and the timing to create more power. I read 30mpg at full throttle lol.

What about tuning for moded cars?.. If it creates more power by allowing more timing is it to the point where the ECU can adjust itself with an aftermarket tune already in place or does it have to be specifically tuned to run with water/meth? if it has to be tuned for water/meth then what happens when it runs out? the car runs like crap because there's too much timing or can it just pull timing to a preset like say a 93 octane tune?
Sigrafix To take full advantage of a system the car should be retuned with the water/methanol injection. On our system we include a fluid level sensor so in the case that you run out of fluid it can send a low side ground output through our controller to your ecu to switch maps.

Thank you! That's what I wanted to know.. now this brings me to my next 2 questions, 1. How big would a typical methanol tank be? and 2. How long would that amount of meth last in moderate use?..
ideally I'd consider a low constant meth injection to supplement fuel for a bit more power at all times but I'm not sure if that's realistic or even possible.
Forgot to mention I turned off the pump after realizing I forgot the tune. It will be tuned once I get the file.

For optimum performance, you will want to have it remapped.
@koutz4 Thanks for the props! We typically like to install the water/methanol injector post intercooler to avoid water/meth pooling up in the intercooler. Although some will install it pre intercooler and pre compressor we like to install it post. Another thing to keep in mind is if your car is equipped with a MAF than make sure it is post that as well. As far as ignition timing you can leave it stock, but to get the most benefit more timing can be added to your ignition map.
Can methanol be used on NA engines?
Yes, on high compression engines. We have a WMI controller that you can program the flow curve with using MAF voltage signal.
It will benefit both however a larger benefit will be seen with turbo charged vehicles.

This is one of the things that sound too good to be true... Anyway, do you need to remap your car after installing a water/methanol injection kit? Also, where do you get the liquid from and how often you have to refill the reservoir?
you def need a remap. you would see little or no increase in power otherwise. it would cool the engine but thats about it.
It is infact not too good to be true, and to answer your questions yes you need to remap unless you don’t care to see a power increase. And as far as buying the methanol goes I prefer boost juice you can buy it on Amazon and I put a gallon in my meth box about every 5 tank fills. So worth it and I highly recommend if you are pushing a lot of boost

Absolutely.. You just wouldn't have the same benefits.. The car would run the same prior to the injection
Yes. It's just an add-on system so as long as you are not using the water-meth just to keep your engine at a safe temperature it won't cause any damage to your engine, you'll just lose the benefits of the cooler inlet air temperatures and increased boost.

@TheAristotleQ Did you ever have your car running hard on just straight pump gas? I did before and there is a very noticeable difference. When I get in it before I could just about watch my gas gauge go down and with the meth it is a lot better.

You do not need to retune if you are using it for knock prevention and cooling, but to get the best performance it is strongly recommended.

You can, but to net a performance benefit you will need to have the engine tuned.
Seems like it wouldn't hurt non-pressurized engines either. Or do I need to know more.
It would only be beneficial on a high compression naturally aspirated engine.
