At the time, there were about a half a dozen more stores down there, including Hills (later Ames), a furniture store (!) and a sit down restaurant (once called the "Oak Tree Cafe"). The "All For A Dollar" store you see in the beginning of the video, originally was down in that "lost" wing when they first opened in August 1990. There was also a jeans store and a store that sold nothing but fragrances called "Perfumania". The mall was still in its prime in this video. Was a typical weekday (school day) afternoon. Nowadays, you can't even get a crowd like that on a Saturday. There's nothin' there anymore. Wish I had more footagel, but glad you enjoyed!

Schwing! People seem to think when Nirvana came out in late '91, by 1992 everyone was wearing flannel and being "slackers". It wasn't like they turned a lightswitch and everyone was listening to Soundgarden. Hair metal and "Wayne's World" was still very much a "thing" in mid-1992. It'd be gone about a year later though. Thanks for watching!
Awesome. Used to love visiting Cornwall as a kid in the 80s/90s. We'd eat at Jack Lee's, go to the mall, buy Canadian chocolate bars (Crunchies!) and Canadian records. I can still smell the paper mill!
@@javajoelradio The mill closed years ago so the smell is gone, as is the big bridge. Now they replaced it with a low-level bridge that is faster/shorter to get across. Our lame mall (literally called "The Square") is on it's last legs, similar to the one in Massena, but it would be too expensive to tear down so they just leave it there like a relic. A liquidation sign is always up year round. Someone needs to do a video like this of the Cornwall Mall before it completely shuts down. Also, Jack Lee's still hits! Just like this video, it's like walking through a time machine... i miss going across the border as a kid when our dollar wasn't so shit, and entering by Champs. That video arcade was legendary since we didn't have anything like that. We had a carousel, but no arcades, no Auntie Em's, no taco bell (in the parking lot), and no Arby's, so taking the 15minute drive South was like entering another world. KB toys (and later Steve and Barry's) was like a living dream as a kid since we had no selection in our town, and the cost was still cheaper even after the exchange rate! It was either drive an hour to Ottawa and pay double, or go to another country, back then before the internet killed the shopping mall. Good times... thanks for sharing

@@javajoelradio do you work for b99.3 ?
There is NOTHING there now.
JCPenney is still there (as of August 2024, anyway). Thanks for watching!
More things change
Yup. We don't have time machines (yet), but we do have TH-cam. Thanks for watching!
1:56 Zappa 👍
Yeah! Good ears.! (or did you Shazam it?...lol). "Just Another Band From L.A." Not one of my favs (The Flo & Eddie years is one of my least favorite FZ eras). Thanks for watching!
@@javajoelradio Shazam? Like the Sinbad Movie? Lol my ears are alright, just spent more time listening to Frank than I’d like to admit
At 6:21 that is me walking by. Jeepers.
Whoaaaaa. Seriously? What were you buying? 😂
3:08 Party time. Excellent.
Loved going to that mall for some cross border shopping as a kid.
Nice. Where were you from, what years do you remember going and what were your favorite stores/food places? Thanks for watching!
TapeWorld employee 😂
I did buy a lot of stuff in that store - CDs, cassette singles, blank tapes!
shame was a cool mall
Wish more people had video they could post of the mall in its prime. Thanks for watching!
Love this. The 90s were the best. #CornwallON
Awesome. Used to love visiting Cornwall as a kid in the 80s/90s. We'd eat at Jack Lee's, go to the mall, buy Canadian chocolate bars (Crunchies!) and Canadian records. I can still smell the paper mill!
@@javajoelradio thanks for the reply Joel!
@@shaun4922 I visited Cornwall Square many times. Me, my sister and some friends bought the Tragically Hip's "Day For Night" the day it came out at the CD store upstairs by the food court. It wouldn't be released in the States until a few months later.
@@javajoelradio That store was where i bought my first CD lol The store was called Phantasmagoria. Closed years ago. Replaced by a Tim Hortons lol Great album, R.i.p. Gord!
Was this really made in 1992 or is it a deepfake? The shirt in the still was sold at Old Navy in 2016. Why fake old VHS in a mall? Do you need an alibi...
I assure you this is from 1992. I don’t have the time, money or resources to “deep fake” anything. Lol. Maybe early 90s “fashion” was making a comeback in the mid 2010s??? Thanks for watching!
I don't believe you. Why are you making deepfakes?

Thank you so much for this amazing video! I thought I'd reciprocate by posting a memory of the mall from my own collection. My mom actually taught at your school. th-cam.com/video/2cjWLPJ-sWM/w-d-xo.html
I may post some more memories from the mall in the future. I just wish one of my parents had walked the whole thing with their camcorder while it was still alive and well.
Just watched (and liked) your video. Nice to see some late 90's footage. Yes, would love to see more stuff as well. Thanks for sharing!
