Red can actually be effective fighting smallpox, not because of healing, but because if you see someone wearing red, you would stay the hell away so the disease couldn't spread, that was actually quite clever, i wish people nowaday could understand those sort of social cues...

It is thought that "Hōsōshin (smallpox demon)" hates the red color.
The people of Europe had the same idea
when he caught smallpox, King Charles V of France was dressed in a red shirt, red stockings, and a red veil.
In European countries the "red treatment" was practiced from the 12th century onwards; when he caught smallpox, King Charles V of France was dressed in a red shirt, red stockings, and a red veil.[9] Queen Elizabeth I of England was likewise wrapped in a red blanket and placed by a live fire when she fell ill with smallpox in 1562, and similar treatments were applied to other European monarchs. Yeah, Germ theory was accepted rather "recently" with the work of Robert Koch and Louis Pasteur. The Austria-Hungarian Doctor Ignaz Semmelweiss found out washing hands between patients lowered child mortality significantly but wasn't believed at that time and was mocked by his peers so he had to move from Vienna back to Budapest where he was born

Red rash at smallpox has a good prognosis
      Below is speculation.
Each color has its own characteristics and has a great influence on our psychology and behavior.
Red is the color of blood, flesh, and ripe fruit, and it has been a color that is directly connected to life for a long time. Therefore, it is thought that the person reacted instinctively to red.
It is thought that this is because red light stimulates "sympathetic", the pulse and the temperature rise, and blood flow improves.
      By the way
NINJA in financial terms means the following.
No Income, No Job and Assets.

Fun fact somehow this wear red was still alive and kicking in the 80s in Poland. I remember having a red thread tied around my wrist when i had the more benin version. No scars thankfully as was properly treated by national health system i guess my family decided trying a bit of red wont harm the medical proceedings 😂

There's a story about mercury sulfide being applied to lumber which turned it red (vermillion) but also seemed to preserve the lumber from decay / rot. So this leads people to think that red pleases the gods because lumber painted red didn't rot (the demons were driven out). Hence torii, etc, were painted with this treatment. According to NHK World anyway.

The old woman should have upgraded her Cane to increase its damage before she went out on her adventure, a beginner's mistake in JRPG, hope the Old Woman learns from her mistake.

I recently read a Touhou dojin dealing with this issue and it's freak'n awesome. The story works within the Touhou framework so it's **very** strange if you're unfamiliar with the setting and characters, but interesting nevertheless. In the setting, there's an area in Japan called Gensokyo that got separated from the rest of the country in a non-euclidean space/barrier just before the Meiji era and it become a sanctuary for Yokai and Josei (now you have to google Josei, tee-hee!). This background is mostly an excuse for little girls with diapers on their head shooting danmaku at each other, but there's a surprising amount of lore to it.
The title is *Tsukurou Namida ni Yamai wa Mebaeru* and the artist is Ichiba Youichi. The artist often deals with the more down to earth aspects of life in the Human Village in Gensokyo. You can find it on Mangadex or Mangahasu and many other places.

It's amazing how backwards was their knowledge of medicine, even in more recent times, even when considering that the world as a whole came with the germ theory very recently.
I heard a podcast about ancient Mesopotamia, the "Oldest Stories". And for what I know (from that source and others), the those urban civilizations had a better understanding of diseases and medicine than those primitive japanese, it's amazing.

Do you know what’s interesting, speaking of red, the reason they probably use red, because red has been always been the color of good luck.
In every Chinese New Year or Lunar New Year, Chinese villiagers would put up everything red, including wearing red clothes. To chase off bad luck demon, which in the Japanese case is the red pox demon.

In India, we people do some same sort of rituals. Imma tell you, if a child caught "chechak" or some sort of summer disease, the mother of the family ( or anyone but mothers are much better at this job and take more interest) will take neem leave bunch which has 5 or 7 branches and will use that as a fan and since the neem has always been considered "nice" or "germ killing " the wind given through neem leave bunch is considered to be "disease killing". Want more? Ok ok, here goes, if a certain person of a certain family is suspicious of having some sorta evil eye ( #mamasucpicions) than, a pouch of black cloth filled with black mustard will be made and will be rounded around the person head to toe 7 times. Then, that pouch will be kept away at a four Lane Street ( chauraha), the ritual has it that whoever steps on that pouch takes the evil eye away with it.

Wrapping in red fabric is a treatment that shows up in western tradition a well, long before contract, suggesting some convergent evolution.
