Yes! I’m 6’4” and it definitely helps to have more taller TH-cam vloggers. All these guys 5’10” and shorter, make it hard to determine which bikes fit us taller guys. Nice review. I agree mostly. It's not that big, and not that heavy. It's very torquey, but not that fast. My only complaint is that it needs a bigger fuel capacity. I loved the one I rode, will own soon.
@@paulbuckley81 Bikes like the hayabusa and the big ktms feel a lot faster and cost a lot less. Plenty of bikes make a lot more power, weigh a lot less and cost less. Compared to them, the rocket 3 is not that fast. It's also because of the ecu limiting torque in the lower gears.
@@paulbuckley81 2.73? I don't know, I didn't time it! I did launch a few times though with the traction control etc turned off. Lots of wheel spin, no wheely. In any decision between torque or horsepower, I would choose a machine with low rpm torque every single time. It just makes a bike (or car) feel effortlessly quick, regardless of the modest peak power or ultimate top speed. I had a Suzuki M90 Intruder.. No, not from an Ann Summers catalogue, - & it had a 1460 cc water cooled V twin with a 100 mm stroke. Max power was at 4,000 to 4,800, & a mere 88 bhp on the dyno. But the torque, 100 ft/lbs @ 2,400 allied to a top gear of 29.5 mph per 1,000, meant that 70 mph came up at 2,370 rpm, & 90 at a tad over 3,000. Even 2nd gear was taller than top gear on an Enfield 500. 1st gear was taller than top gear on a Kawasaki 300 Versys! It just felt incredibly relaxed, & travelling long distances were just a relaxing lope at little more than idle speed. & it gave over 52 mpg cruising at 70 mph, tank after tank after tank. The old adage goes that a big engine working easily, will generally be more economical than a small high revving engine having to work hard. The big V twin & the Rocket 3 seem to confirm it.
The fact that this bike has a bigger engine then my car is just mental. Bigger then my old estate car too lmao. That twitch, the R9T because of the boxer engine is mad too, proper weird when I first felt it. :P I am glad I have someone exactly the same height as me reviewing bikes, it sucks that sports bikes are just too uncomfy for us tbh, although I prefer sitting up right. One thing I love about lower CC bikes to over Ltr bikes is they are so much nicer at low speeds and around town. That smoothness is due to the tripple :), my tripple is super smooth I love the smoothness. I think the best way to describe the "feels light" is its heavy when moving it with feet, and low speed, but as you get faster the physics sort it out and make it lighter as you ride, thats how my bike feels at 250KG so the rocket is about 40KG more dry.
Honestly, best bike that I have ever owned. I use mine as my daily - easy to ride! I can creep it around a carpark at less than a walking pace without any issue.
Had this bike out a week after it first got to the dealers. Always fancied a Rocket. I thought this new one was going to scare the shit out of me. It didn't which in a strange way was a bit disappointing!! The power is very well controlled. Took it on some very twisty roads. Cairn O Mount if anyone knows that road, its very narrow, twisty and gravelly. I thought it would be a handful but it handled great. Fabulous for a big bike. I have a couple of XJR1300s and it takes more muscling to get them over this road. It was a bit wet on the day I had it out. With no real protection I was covered in shit off the road right up my back and over my helmet. This is not a one bike bike!! You need a "normal" bike in the garage.
Now I'm hoping you'll ride and compare the GT. I'm the same height. I imagine your legs were a bit cramped, and you seemed to be nearly straight-armed which didn't look too relaxed.. Don't you think you have been more comfortable on the GT? I'm wanting, but waiting a while for less exclusive pricing :-). GT review?
I test rode a 2020 Harley 114 Fat Boy about a month ago (I currently own a 2015 Harley Super Low 1200T and a 2016 Motto Guzzi V7II). The Fat Boy was great but I did not like the forward controls and it seemed to have to be coached into turns/effort on twisty roads. ANd I love the looks of the Fat Boy as well. But ... the Triumph Rocket III looks promising to say the least. I plan on finding a dealer soon that will let me take one for a test ride. Have you ridden the 114 Harley Fat Boy and if so how does it compare in your opinion ? Also wondering if the Rocket III has the option of a rear rack (that could hold a Top Case) and hard lockable saddle bags that are large enough for long trips. I do think that Triumph could have done better with the looks of the rear end, but w/e. What is the wet weight of the Rocket III (in pounds) ?
