  • Removing and installing the brake pedal position switch - the sensor that controls the brake lights - on a Ford Mondeo Mk3. This process is similar on other Fords.
    If you need a new switch try searching Amazon ~

    Be careful releasing the switch from the bracket as my workshop manual instructed the incorrect direction to twist.
    This is one of three videos on the control pedals. You need to remove the position switch in the process of removing the entire assembly, but I have put it in a separate video as it's obviously useful.

    Craig, great job on the video. Camera angles and lighting clearly showed parts and action. Narration was clear and succinct. Overall, top notch.
    In addition to excellent production value, the subject matter and advice were exactly what I needed to solve my brake problem.
    Thank you for taking the time to produce this video. It was an enormous help.

    Taurus, it was clicking underneath the steering column and my battery was going dead, quickly. About a half hour ago I went out front to my dome light flashing, and clicking like crazy. I got inside to look it up and your video was right here waiting for me. I owe you one.

    I changed the brakw booster and couldn't figure out why the brake lights were staying on, took booster out figuring the plunger was off or something. Then watched this video and it explained it all. Works perfectly now that I adjusted switch. Thanks

    Hi will this switch also be the reason why my automatic won't come out of park and the buzzing sound from the brake pedal has stopped when going from park to drive. The brake lights do still work and thoughts

  • @101perspective
    @101perspective 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Thanks for the video. My transit connect was having intermittent brake light/gear locking issues. Using your info I think I've narrowed it down to that switch. What I did was keep pressing the brake until I got a failure (no brake light being on and gear locked in park). Then, while still holding the brake down, I gave the side of the switch a small thump with my finger. Sure enough, the light comes on. I did that test several times and each time the same results. So, I think the switch is getting stuck or something. Not sure if I should try spraying something in there or just buy a new switch. However, at least I think I know for sure what the issue is. Prior to your video I knew I had that switch but I had no clue where it was. I thought it was in with all the relays. I didn't realize it was an actual physical switch in the brake assembly...lol.

    • @101perspective
      @101perspective 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stevenweede7184 Yeah, until recently I didn't even know it had anything to do with the break since it was the gear sometimes sticking that I noticed and not the brake light issue.
      Btw, instead of toying with it I just bought a new one switch. They aren't that expensive. Haven't had the problem since.

    @3:21... are two of your bulbs out Craig? Notice how only half of the brake light circle on each side illuminates. I'm facing the same problem with my 04 Mondeo and after replacing bulbs and the fuse, am looking to this video to see if replacing the switch is the next step.

    • @CraigsDIY
      @CraigsDIY  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Only the outer segments are the brake lights. The complete ring of 3 bulbs is only the tail light. Search my other vids on LED retrofits to see.

    Would this part affect the ability to get the car out of park? My lights do not come on, and I cannot get the car out of park. I do have working brakes. My son found a trick to get it into neutral but it is a struggle. I am not a mechanic and being disabled, I want to work smarter rather than harder.

    Have an 05' focus realised brake lights & turn signals do not work in the back. The front turn signals work but flashing fast because of the open circuit. I checked all fuses pertaining to brake light & turn signal which was ok & both light bulbs was fine kinda smoke shadow but no element broken! Even the 3rd brake light not working. I know the brake light & turn light works off one bulb. Idk I'm flustered

    • @CraigsDIY
      @CraigsDIY  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You will have to narrow it down with a multimeter. Is the plug at the wiring loom getting voltage when it should. Check continuity, from the fuse box to the end of the cable, and across the exposed circuits on the light assembly. Etc. Something broken somewhere. 3rd brake light maybe wired in parallel off the same broken circuit.

    • @dustym.111
      @dustym.111 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I figured it out. I wasted $30 on a switch with a new pig tail. But anyway I didnt think the bulbs were bad & how both quit working at the same time so I checked into the wiring. All in all it was the damn bulbs that needed replaced. Uh!! Thanks for your response
