    Regarding the two feral cats. Grab a book and go and sit in there for an hour every day just reading but ignoring them, letting them see you're obviously not a threat to them.

    I live in Kenya and the Leopards get out of the tree the exact same way. So graceful going up, but a little challenging going down! scoot scoot scoot until they reach a safe distance, then a big jump to the ground!

    I bet you have the patience and skill to build your rabbits extra large elevated cages connected by walk ways to entertain the rabbits but keep them contained !! You could collect their manure that way by placing chicken wire or whatever on the bottom the cages !! I bet your over BNB visitors with children would enjoy this setup!! I love ❤the design of your chicken house!❤❤

    Instead of straw in the rabbit area use saw dust or shavings these will break down in the compost and in the garden. They will also be absorbent of urine and moisture in the pens and warm. I would suggest also moving the rabbits from one section of pen and using lime dust as a basis and then cover with sawdust. The lime will help in cleaning the urine and feces from the flooring and drying the surface but remember to cover it over with sawdust or shavings. You can do this in all your animal areas almost all of them will be good with it.

    • @HiddenSpringFarm
      @HiddenSpringFarm  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Once I get a sawmill I’ll most likely have an unlimited supply of saw dust, that sounds like a good plan instead of straw. Don’t know anything about lime dust though, is that something you buy from the feed store?

    They are hissing at one another bc they don't smell the same anymore. (Cats scent kinda confusing but basically each cat has a scent and it adds to the group scent.) Her and Maggie did kiss (nose touch) the hissing is basically stay away from me. I would recommend keeping a familiar cat in there but they will have to stay in there with them. The friendliest and cuddlest one u have that will stay put. If they see that cat playing and getting cuddles from you, they will learn you are safe. I'm not sure a couple minutes each day will be enough.

    • @HiddenSpringFarm
      @HiddenSpringFarm  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good plan. I messed it up to cause I had food in the first and Momma Maggie helped herself then Bubs came over and Mom may have protected her food. I’ll keep on them, but really when they grew up with the others they saw me cuddle all the time it didn’t matter. I’m not giving up though, they both ate fresh chicken out of my hand today, but Chewie still swatted me 😂

    • @wakeup2087
      @wakeup2087 ปีที่แล้ว

      Treats out of your hand is great idea if you can get them to do it. Also how about feeding them before you leave in the evening instead that way they will come back? You could slowly do it later in the day until it later you could make a certain sound thats loud when its time to eat like a cat treat container or maybe a dinner bell lol

    They will hiss when they have been separated for any length of time. Even fight. You'll have a lot of hiss when you try to put everyone back together, and that won't get easier!
    Maybe rotate different cats in with them, but leave the new one in for 24 hours so everyone is calm.

      I do like those tanks, very durable. I just need to find one that’s only about 8”-10” high but also if it’s too big and heavy I can’t lift it to dump and clean. I’d need to pump it out. Something to think about though. 🙏

    I know in the UK that certain breeds of Chicken really slow down laying during colder times of the year, I wonder if thats the issue with the Leghorns? Love the videos.

    • @HiddenSpringFarm
      @HiddenSpringFarm  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      same here as there is less daylight the hens lay less, but these leghorns stopped last August which was way too early to slow down...and even still shouldn't stop altogether. Rhode Island Reds are very good layers and a big size egg too.

  • @colorfulwater5070

    Wet urine straw isn't keeping those rabbits warm. I say no straw in the barn. 👌

    • @HiddenSpringFarm
      @HiddenSpringFarm  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes I'm finding the buns don't mind the cold at all, it's not like they need a big pile of straw in there. They do have straw in the burrows if they want to get warm but they really stay out in the air as if the cold is nothing.

    Oh you're going to have amazing compost. Sorry about the 💩.
    The bunny Poo straw could have been filtered on your hardware cloth, or put in somewhere that straw is helpful... Strawberries or Garlic come to mind.
    If it's stinking, you need more carbon in your deep bedding method. It is definitely more of a challenge within buildings.
    Our neighbours ducks popped out one egg a day each, year round and that was up at the 48th parallel. Different ducks I guess, but always an egg a day for 3 years!

    Can you just put the straw in one area? If they like peeing in the straw maybe they’ll just go there? Or maybe use wood shavings instead of straw? Would that be okay in the garden? I remember using lime in the horses stalls when I was a kid to help with the moisture and smell,, but I don’t remember what kind of lime or if it was safe for other animals. It makes me so sad to see the two kitties still so scared :( Did they not work well being in the house? Where you could be in the same room with them for longer while you’re working on your TH-cam videos? Being in that stall with no stimulation for 98% of the day doesn’t seem like it would help with their fear.

    • @HiddenSpringFarm
      @HiddenSpringFarm  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The cats are doing much better, well more relaxed anyway. It was a disaster in the cage in the house cause when I tried to grab Bubbles to go to the vet Chewie smacked me in the face lol. Been spending more time with them and they're making a small improvement. Thing is I'm also not home most of the day and the dogs r here too. I dunno nothing perfect I guess. Don't know much about lime, something I'd have to learn about.
