As an Indian living in Delhi, the No. 1 reason for me is lack of infrastructure to support grassroots level football. I live in South Delhi and I have to travel 7.7 km to Siri Fort Sports Complex to have a ground where I can play football.
As a dude from the northeast I agree, back home we could pull up a ball and could easily play anywhere but. We need some proper institution to show our progress.
Not at all, In terms of facilities Palestine or African countries are nothing, but still they are playing better than India. Indian players are overpaid in ISL, they should leave ISL and play for 2nd or 3rd division leagues in Europe. We need exposures not facilities.
I wonder if China or India will improve like other AFC nations. Crazy to think that countries with small populations can field world class lineups for decades like Uruguay and the Netherlands.

You sought the economic conditions and then you said South American parents don't force anyone show the contradiction. The biggest issue is the lack of a footballing culture. This is even worse in India, where football isn't the most popular sport. China, at least, has a football culture, though this culture is undermined by corruption and poor management.
@@davidbowie5023 that's just one part of the story, I am from Nepal and I also face the same issues in my country although football is famous it doesn't have footballing culture, corruption and miss management are there but main thing is economic conditions of people because people cannot afford a player from their house they ask to join some job or go abroad rather than being in country, culture can only be established if people can pursue it.
I can't say about China, but for India three of the biggest reasons of not growing football are: 1. Too much political interference in the governing bodies of football in India, 2. The urban population gives too much priority to education, 3. The quality of football coaches for the grassroots are far below the inferior qualities according to european standard. Poverty, huge population, lack of passion, etc are all bogus reasons for the failure of Indian football. It may take 10-15 years if the government of India ever becomes serious about Indian football. The AIFF needs to create a bunch of good quality coaches first. Rest all will follow automatically.
I've been to delhi, most of the kids that attended the camps were from the privileged. They were looking at the wrong places, come to places like darjeeling, Gangtok, North East, kolkata, punjab, Kerala, those are where the Real talents lie. Not Metropolitan Cities.
India is not a sporting country, it's a cricket nation. The basic infrastructure at the roots is non-existent, a lot of talented young players just give up on sports once they grow up as sports in India generally don't lead to a good income for the individual. Things are changing now but still there's rampant corruption at all levels and the funds allocated for development of training facilities is gobbled up by politicians & administrators. Some sports are highly localized, for eg, Greco roman wrestling is popular in Haryana (north India), racquet sports players generally come from a good background who can afford the coaching on their own. there's no support from the respective organisation most of of the times, comsider this, sumit nagpal, who's India's leading tennis player, had to beg on social media to get his visa cleared for himself & his team, he had to ask for public support for travel & accomodation. Well, there's your problem. FCB's camps were held in big cities to make money from people who could afford the fees. It wasn't to nurture talent in India. That talent is in states like Goa, Kerala, and the North East which has nurtured homegrown talent for decades. Players from these regions could have benefitted more from FCB coaching... but since they have lower per capita income, they can't afford to pay the fees at such camps.
Because in any country with other options than association football they prefer others. Gaelic football in Ireland, American, Australian and Canadian football in their countries.
