Zhao Yongting, Guo Ziyin's mother, is such an admirable woman. Too many in Asia (I know, I'm Filipino) have that mindset of forcing their children too much academics and not allowing them to enjoy their youth. I'm glad she found a way to let her daughter play while also securing a more stable future if football doesn't work out. God bless their families and I hope to see Guo Ziyin wearing the Chinese National Team jersey someday.
It has largely to do with women’s role in society and women football tradition Women are treated as equals so if there are men’ teams, there needs to be women’s teams as well. So overall, when you compare China’s performance in men’s teams vs women’s teams across different sports, like volleyball, basketball and football, women historically have been better in most cases, especially in volleyball and football Another reason is the lack of funding and exposure for women football as a whole across the globe in the last 20 years. Even though China didn’t spend as much in women football, it was more compared to most countries, so China had an advantage. Same story can be said about the US Women Soccer, Wolfsburg in Germany. Wolfsburg was one of the first major European clubs that dedicated a lot of resources to its women division and had lots of success in the last decade, but now they are seeing a lot of challengers from traditional men’s powerhouses like the EPL giants, La Liga giants, and even from Germany. Unfortunately China will slowly fall behind in terms of women football in the next 10-15 years and Europe will surely take over the women football scene. Ok so historically, China has had women’s football teams at each provincial level, and in some cases, at city levels (especially Beijing and Shanghai). So there were dedicated budget, coaching and system to nurture women football players, even though the budget is small. But this structure can definitely support a national team when the need arises. But with how much and how fast England, Spain, Germany are spending in women football, the gap is getting bigger and bigger.
Great analysis, Nick. Thank you for your message! You said Europe will surely take over the women football scene. You think they can also break the US dominance in recent years? Check out our latest video on that topic: th-cam.com/video/fy2J24ZSi6k/w-d-xo.html
@@dwkickoff I think they will. with the best players flocking to europe and countries like Spain, Germany and England all investing heavily in women football, it will be hard to compete. Especially there are just so many alternatives to women soccer in terms of entertainment in the united states. Unlike in europe, where football is the number one watched sport, no matter men or women.
The reason men's football declined a lot is the CSL. I heard about it cause of Alfie Potts' video (HITC Sevens). And yes, the richest football leagues in Asian is now Saudi Pro League.
Very very interesting documentary. DW covers matters that others don't. Do all your broadcast documentaries make it to TH-cam? I ask as I like to share with friends and relatives.
Most football clubs in China seeing football club purpose as a money making business but most football club in China forget the importance of talent scouting and an effective junior football athlete training method not just taking instant approach of budget overspend And also talent scouting for junior football athlete in China is challenging because many kids in China are demanded to pursue academic success and finding stable job
The Women's football team could qualify to WC because there are lesser competition. But recently the women's team have dropped their standards - lost to Denmark, narrowly beat Haiti & trashed by England
Liu Yujia's comments about how she "played" football under Corona are just terrible! How can parents, coaches and the club allow such a thing? There should be more than enough reasons not to play. And if I'm not mistaken, you left this completely uncommented. I don't find that very practical. But I would find the reason interesting! Anyway, an exciting documentary with a rare insight. Into a football and social world that you don't usually see so often. Greetings from 🇨🇭
I would say the Chinese women's team are better than their men's team. Last year at the women's Asian Cup, our Vietnam women's team played against the Chinese and lost. We Vietnamese booked the 1st goal just 11 mins into the game, but the Chinese managed to turn around and booked 3 goals into out net to seal the 3-1 victory. They managed to claim the 2023 Women's World Cup ticket directly and sent us to the play-off round, but we still got the ticket anyway. In fact, when it comes to women's football, we Vietnamese have never beaten the Chinese. For the men's team. Just few days after our women's team defeat, we met up against the Chinese in the 2022 World Cup qualification round right on the 1st day of Lunar New Year and right on our homesoil and we smacked the Chinese with the same result: 3-1. I remember the Chinese men's tram defeat against us Vietnamese became a mockery after their women's team claim the Asian Cup title.
It is the same story👍🏻 like they have it with the #CanWNT🇨🇦 and the USAWNT😅... The ladies are better🎉 at the most beautiful game💰 in the world🌎 than their male counterparts🤣... See her inherit the world🌎 at the speed of light🏆 or even faster⚡... 🇨🇦💘⚽️
WOMEN TERRIBLE AND AWFUL. MEN BETTER AND SO GOOD. LET CHINA WOMEN TEAM PLAY AGAINST THE MEN TEAM WHICH IS THE MAIN TEAM THE MEN EASILY WILL WIN BY 16-0
16 minutes but still no mention of the real reason: Physicality, which matters a lot more in men's football. Chinese men are short and have less muscles. It's the same for all other Asian teams. In women's football, the size doesn't matter as much because they're all small with little muscle.
"Steel roses" sounds both cute and badass at the same time
And France could be that title too...

Not if South America comes back and takes back the Women crown.

Freaking tragic that even in China, no matter how well the Chinese women’s football team does, China is unwilling to invest in them.
I love the china women's soccer team aka steel roses and I am a big fan

African women are physical but not very successful on the global football stage
Japan and Korea have good teams?

Short in what sense? Is Yao Ming shot?
Clearly you have no idea what you are talking about
