I told my mom I was cutting out all fats, even plant based. My sister overheard and later during dinner she made a point of asking for a piece of meat with lots of fat on it and then said fat doesn't create body fat. :p: Eye roll she is somewhere between 200 and 300 lbs and is on multiple medications for diseases caused by consuming animal products. I just finished up veggies, put my plate in the sink, and walked out.
The Standard American diet comes with a lot of brainwashing. It is not based on fact, but on group think. When a person who has wallowed in total indulgence sees one who has recovered their self-control, it upsets them. Your sister knew you could not stand witnessing her self destructive behavior, and it was “in your FACE”. I would have done what you did and leave also. In some regards people like me who got on board with the WFPB diet, was because I was sick, in a wheelchair which I had eaten myself into. It took me a while to recover my self control and part of it is I have a chronic back injury and when it hurts, I have comforted myself with food. When I decided I needed to become vegan, I weighed 200 lbs. I only got halfway to my goal in weight loss because of the pain and then I broke an ankle. I had been walking, but walking with a broken ankle is not to be done. Before that I had lost down to 144 lbs. But this break did not heal and it took nearly 3 years to become healed due to my age, late 60s, and post menopausal. But I did heal and decided to give “The Starch Solution” another go, and I am down now to 120 lbs. That’s 80 lbs. thinner. I still think I want to lose another 5 lbs. I want to be in the BMI, Dr. McDougall recommends, lower than 120 on the BMI calculator. I do walk but lower back is not stable and some of the exercises given me by physical therapists are not always good for the injury. Even so, overall I feel better. I am the only one left of my nuclear family: both parents dead of the excesses of their diet - mother with obesity, type II diabetes, chronic arthritis, high cholesterol and breast cancer (which she died of). And my dad, also obese, with heart disease, type II diabetes and Alzheimer’s. My bad back came of my dad falling on top of me, as I sat on the floor working on an art project. My sister died of her diet, also obese with breast cancer which metastasized to her lung and bone, her pelvis and her brain. What suffering. My brother died of suicide 6 months after I got married. We have three sons who worship at the temple of High Meat Protein. So they rather see me and their dad, who also follows the diet via what I tell him as he does not listen to lectures or read books - our boys see me as a nut job, even though at 70, I am thin now and no one thinks I am 70. When we stop the food poisoning - we lose weight and look better. I also exercise and walk usually 5 miles a day. It is hard when you want to help those whom you love and they wallow in their condition. Never stop hoping.
You are completely in the right, great work! It is our job to be persistent and help the people we love even if their ignorance and stubbornness is completely infuriating
I have a step daughter who is brainwashed by the diet industry, believing she needs protein for 3 meals and 2 snacks per day because it keeps you full. Anecdote: 9 months ago I had a urinalysis done, also one in August, and then one this month. Started eating high-starch/low-meat in early November. Urinalysis showed pH of 5.0 back in March, 6.0 in August, and 7.0 in December; now close to the upper end of the normal range. So at least in my example, the urine pH has been moving in the right direction (not sure why the jump from 5.0 to 6.0 from March to August but I may have reduced protein intake over those months despite eating generally low-carb most of the year)

Interesting how you have molecular mimicry w animal proteins but not w plants as we don't have proteins that resemble plants in us! Makes so much sense!
Wonderful presentation as always. I can’t thank enough this man for sharing. I do read nutritional books and they don’t mentioned much in regards to protein and long term health.
First time I hear that my short height is actually a good thing (I’m a 5’6” male), I never felt bad about it, but taller is the norm in the US. My 5’ 2” grandpa lived to 95, kept seeing patients in his office till the last day, my other taller male relatives, dad included, died much younger.
Right now, I’m reading Fountainhead by Ayn Rand. The novel's protagonist is called Howard Roark who reminds me of Dr McDougall. Roark is an intransigent young architect, who battles against conventional standards and refuses to compromise with an architectural establishment unwilling to accept innovation. Dr McDougall is a free thinker and ahead of his time. God bless him!❤️
I agree. I still revere Dr Macdougall and his message, so I couldn't imagine him being so contrary to the science as he is with the covid vaccines (so called). Even his description on how vaccines work does not apply to these new bio-agents.
3 pages of notes! and have a question regarding what Dr. McD. feels about the use of collagen for joint function, (knees), fingers, weather it's from bovine source or chicken source please. Thank you Heather for your help.
Collagen is a massive waste of money as a supplement, and I know this doc would agree. Simply mechanistically, we digest any protein, collagen included, by breaking it up into component amino acids, then we reconfigure specific amino acids - from food and from normal breakdown of our own tissue - into specific proteins we may need in different places, and we have to filter out the significant excess. We expertly make our own collagen from whole plant foods, there is no need to consume animal products (and, again: collagen doesn't remain in tact as a cartilage-specific protein and get shuttled to the joints - the whole premise is flawed). Boost dark leafies greens, beans, flax seeds or chia seeds, plenty of fruit and vegetables and whole grains, spices.
@@caroline61804 Vitamin C is needed from high natural vitamin C sources as sweet ripe Kiwi and others . Sintetic vit C ( ascorbic acid) can cause major gastric acidity .

Most dog & cat kibble has less protein than the average consumers diet. These animals thrive on these grain based kibble which are a low protein diet, & they have much higher protein needs than a human being. I've always thought of this & how they keep telling us how important protein is for us. Once again Dr.McDougall gives an eye opening lecture that is true. This is why myself and others are scared we are protein deficient when we know beans and plants have protein in the amount that is how nature intended for us to absorb. We are not carnivores nor even ideally omnivores. Finally Dr.McDougall has answered my doubts & concerns. Thankyou Dr.McDougall for this highly welcomed reassurance that I will not drop dead from a vegan diet due to protein deficiency.
Thanks for highlighting that too much plant proteins is also not a good thing. Vegan have tendency to over compensate from being told that they may be protein deficient.
Its truly a wonderfull basic Way of eating. Starch based whole food sos free plant food. I am so great full that I have discovered this way of eating because it’s so tasty, healthy and can be very simple - I just love it. 🙏🎶🌹🎵❤
I get inflamed and ache joints from much white potato eating. I can hardly do my stairs in house after a few days. Please help. Hashimoto thyroiditis, and born with no thyroid function. Night shades sensitive. Is it the solanine? Please I want to eat this way but don't want only sweet potatoes as my choice. What could it possibly be,???? Thank you!
Go to McDougall's website and search for the Elimination Diet. He provides instructions. You're be able to determine if you have an allergy or intolerance.
Our body doesn't have a natural mechanism to buffer excess animal protein so it causes bone resorption to draw out phosphate from the bone, and calcium follows which causes decreased bone density. Phosphate is the buffer needed. Plant protein doesn't have this effect on our bodies. Research has shown that osteoporosis is more common in people who consume animal products than just plants. This is caused by that increased bone resorption to buffer animal protein.
I can only take him in small doses because I need the time to just contemplate what he says in one sentence. He definately practices; It is better to give than to receive.
?? One question is I have been hypoglycemic all my adult life. I have been told to eat more protein because it is slower to break down. What would you suggest. I trust you.
You mentioned asians eating rice earlier when they were healthy and western diet now but they are notorious for eating meat with rice which you do not recommend. I am indian, my diet is already close to vegan without trying, i only eat some dairy, i will try almond milk for a month and see the changes. I also started limiting oil for cooking only in lunch. For dinner i eat chickpea and rice made without any oil and lentil with vegetables soup/stew with rice on alternate days.
@@marleri Thank you for your reply. I was hoping somehow a new healthy one was discovered. I have to train my tastebuds to not desire the buttery flavor.
My eldest brother was a wrestler in high school back in the 60's. As a young adult he was offered a contract with WWF. He won a lot of blue ribbons and trophies. Guess what mom fixed for him before a big match. We all ate spaghetti that night. Sometimes mom added a little bit of hamburger to the sauce and for the most part not. Served with a salad with a lot of variety of vegetables in it. I was the salad chef. He would eat a full plate of spaghetti and about a half plate of salad. He wanted to load up on carbs. He ate a lot of carbs as a general rule, but before a match or a big baseball game he loaded up. That's how his coaches trained him to eat and it worked. My dad coached little league. The kids who ate a meat based diet performed poorly. The poor kids who ate a starch based diet performed well. Not only did they do more chores which built more muscle mass, they are a starch based diet, as that was what their parents could afford. Meat was not an everyday thing and it was reserved for a Sunday or other special meals. Then it was not much of a serving, due to any being split 8 ways or more. Depending on if we had company. A lot of meals just had a token amount of meat protein. Like soups and such. When I married, I married a poor boy of native American ancestry. We couldn't afford meat. I tried to get WIC and food stamps. Had trouble qualifying, because we were too healthy on 8 dollars a week. Beans, greens and cornbread and biscuits and mush is what we ate, flavored with a little bit of salt pork in the beans and greens. We were healthy and we just wanted some variety. My husband only worked part time and for minimum wage at a fast food place. That was back around 1978-1982.
But it doesn’t make sense. 1:00:00. The mRNA focuses on the SPIKE protein and so all variants most likely share that spike protein and so it shouldn’t stop working because it’s designed for targeting only a short sequence not the entire viru??
Summery of Nutritional Problems with meat (taken from one of the slides) High calorie = obesity, diabetes, heart disease, cancer High fat= obesity, cancer, and diabetes deficient in essential fats = degerative diseases, multiple sclerosis high protein = osteoporosis, kidney damage and stones high cholesterol = strokes and heart attack high in iron = strokes or heart attack no dietary fiber = constipation hemorrhoids no carbs = fatigue poor endurance no vitamin c = poor tissue healing no calcium = poor tissue but needs are very small
Honestly, I have always leaned toward a simple pure unadulterated way of eating. I grew up on greasy meat and potatoes with sides of vegetables laden with cream or cheese sauce, butter was a staple in the German/Swedish roots I come from. But I never liked my mother’s cooking 😂. My intuition was not to eat that food and I was the last to finish at the dinner table. Dad died of lung cancer and heart disease and he was a heavy guy. Mom was size 24 and had many physical and emotional problems caused by diet. I have broken the chain reaction of such things, but am the only one of 6 children to break the habits and it shows when we are all together - I’m the weird one out but I’m ok with it. I try to eat before gatherings or bring my own food. Not easy.
People find it so hard to believe that protein need only be ~10% of your diet. Protein marketing has such a stranglehold on the popular psyche that the idea has never crossed the minds of the staggering majority. Everyone "knows" that protein is the most important thing of all time. Never have I seen such a blindly accepted "fact" on this level.
Hi there! I had a vertical gastrectomy and am wondering what suggestions you may have for me. Volumes of food are no longer an option for me. Thank you!
I've been hearing a lot lately about why it's not a good idea to eat pea protein, or any legumes. The claim is that it's "a million times higher" in ESTROGEN than animal protein. They further say that the hormones in the animals don't affect you when you eat meat. Can you comment on this?

Dr McDougall is a free thinker and ahead of his time. God bless him!❤️
Better: impossible! Thanks 🙏!Learning a lot!!!🌱🇧🇷👍
This guy is a hero! Thank you!!
Such a great video!
LOL, you cracked me up Dr. McDougall "people are just too big" , lol ha ha ha , but so true. Just the way you said it made me laugh.
Brillante ⭐️! I could listen to him all day
What a great man he is !
Heather! thank you!
Agree with absolutely everything you said except taking the vaccine...
Great video, yet again 🙏
I agree. I still revere Dr Macdougall and his message, so I couldn't imagine him being so contrary to the science as he is with the covid vaccines (so called). Even his description on how vaccines work does not apply to these new bio-agents.
What is your reference for such claims?
Take vit c instead
@@caroline61804 Vitamin C is needed from high natural vitamin C sources as sweet ripe Kiwi and others . Sintetic vit C ( ascorbic acid) can cause major gastric acidity .
Adrian Dumitru most animals on earth except 3 fruit bats primates and forgot ... makes own vitamin c in liver. its not a vitamin rather a hormone. the animals makes lab l-absorbic acid not like the fruit veg kingd. theres more vit c in freshly slaughtered meats than ever in fruits
Keep plant food in its natural state! Thank you !
💜TY DR MCDOUGALL
WE ALL LOVE YOU!!!!
Brilliant lecture
Eat sweet potatoes and broccoli and oatmeal and blueberries and cooked kale and quinoa seasoned with salt and pepper
God bless you Dr McDougall. John 3:16
Thank you 🙏
There were no pizza trees or ice cream bushes in the Garden of Eden....
Magical interview
Thanks for highlighting that too much plant proteins is also not a good thing. Vegan have tendency to over compensate from being told that they may be protein deficient.
Its truly a wonderfull basic Way of eating. Starch based whole food sos free plant food. I am so great full that I have discovered this way of eating because it’s so tasty, healthy and can be very simple - I just love it. 🙏🎶🌹🎵❤
Legend.
Thank you!
Eat yams, Jamaica yellow yam, white yam, African yam, cocoa
Eat rice!
Go to McDougall's website and search for the Elimination Diet. He provides instructions. You're be able to determine if you have an allergy or intolerance.
Thanks
🙏🏾 thank you ⚡
Why do so many pbwf doctors use cocoa instead of carob powder when cocoa contains caffeine ?
Over worked,, n caffeine helps them cope with stress jobs
Super. Thx doc🧐👍
High intake of protein causes calcium loss?
Our body doesn't have a natural mechanism to buffer excess animal protein so it causes bone resorption to draw out phosphate from the bone, and calcium follows which causes decreased bone density. Phosphate is the buffer needed. Plant protein doesn't have this effect on our bodies. Research has shown that osteoporosis is more common in people who consume animal products than just plants. This is caused by that increased bone resorption to buffer animal protein.

So does VitC deficiency
I can only take him in small doses because I need the time to just contemplate what he says in one sentence. He definately practices; It is better to give than to receive.
What are your thoughts on GMO foods and what to do about it?
He has an article on his website
He saved my life....
What’s your take on Sea Moss?
Supposed to have 90+ minerals of the 108 or so need in the body
That renal acid load is very interesting!
There's also a lot of butter in Indian food. But yes, the basis is good. Don't forget to supplement your b12.
Q. I love the taste of butter on things. Is there ANY ACCEPTABLE PLANT BASED SPREAD/BUTTER? OR NOT?
Plant based "butter" is just renamed margarine. It is not good for you.
@@marleri Thank you for your reply. I was hoping somehow a new healthy one was discovered. I have to train my tastebuds to not desire the buttery flavor.
@Jasmin Yes I love peanut butter and I heard it's loaded with mold. So maybe almond butter is better...
@Jasmin Peanuts shells are thin and porous and can grow mold. Anyone can correct me on this. I hope I'm wrong, but I read it somewhere.
@Jasmin Read "Whole" by man who wrote The China Study
I am going to start growing my own plant foods.
But it doesn’t make sense. 1:00:00. The mRNA focuses on the SPIKE protein and so all variants most likely share that spike protein and so it shouldn’t stop working because it’s designed for targeting only a short sequence not the entire viru??
If this is true, how come so many waxxed people in Israel got new delta and are in hospitals as same as unwaxed. Please ignore w, it should be v.
I've recently come across new information that omega3 closes the spikes, therefore it cannot enter the cell.
We hear you. Love from Israel.
That explains why my back and neck don't bother me anymore. Wish I could convince my brother.
I’m eating a plate of air fried potatoes with hot sauce while watching this. 😜
Yum
I wonder if drinking alkaline(ph 8) water is helpful.
Calcium from greens K from sunshine sup on winter
Need to turn up volume much more... rwalls Ky
Summery of Nutritional Problems with meat
(taken from one of the slides)
High calorie = obesity, diabetes, heart disease, cancer
High fat= obesity, cancer, and diabetes
deficient in essential fats = degerative diseases, multiple sclerosis
high protein = osteoporosis, kidney damage and stones
high cholesterol = strokes and heart attack
high in iron = strokes or heart attack
no dietary fiber = constipation hemorrhoids
no carbs = fatigue poor endurance
no vitamin c = poor tissue healing
no calcium = poor tissue but needs are very small
Not easy.
So what about tofu? Is tofu considered isolated soy protein??
People find it so hard to believe that protein need only be ~10% of your diet. Protein marketing has such a stranglehold on the popular psyche that the idea has never crossed the minds of the staggering majority. Everyone "knows" that protein is the most important thing of all time. Never have I seen such a blindly accepted "fact" on this level.
Need to increase volume much more.
Garlic and onions have sulfur are they bad?
Did he say not to eat beans? Not keen on them but do like lentils and chick peas .
That all you need
Hi there! I had a vertical gastrectomy and am wondering what suggestions you may have for me. Volumes of food are no longer an option for me. Thank you!
Volume eating is not good. I put a load of weight on eating vegetable soups volume eating.
I've been hearing a lot lately about why it's not a good idea to eat pea protein, or any legumes. The claim is that it's "a million times higher" in ESTROGEN than animal protein. They further say that the hormones in the animals don't affect you when you eat meat. Can you comment on this?
