Man this movie isn't really comparable to the other ones he did from around this time period. WAY better than all those surrounding it. I actually really enjoyed this one.

While Seagal had doing a lot of straight-to-video stuff by this point, I always thought this was a clear step down because even though this wasn't the worst filme he had done, this was the first film where the box art looked completely amatuer, something most mockbusters would be embarrassed to have on the shelf. But hey, the movie has William Atherton. It can't be all bad.

@@RedEyeReviews Isn't there a scene in this movie where a Japanese guy is in his shop and refers to Steven as a Master of knowing all things about Japanese swords? The scene transitions in this movie are also pretty crazy and the music is terrible generic royalty free rock music.
I think the "sushi" line was referring to the *quality* of their sushi, not the mere fact that it was sushi. He was bagging on their Lawson Station take-out sushi (which admittedly in real life isn't *that* awful).

GI DOUGH BOOOIII. That first scene of seagal in his doo rag and black outfit along with his AK with its odd ass flame effect on the front really just makes him look like some Viet Cong dude. Steven Seagal as an Operator type actor dude is just so odd with how his movie career evolved. I'm excited for the next installation in the series Submerged which I think I've managed to see on Amazon prime. World's best Mercenary though, there has to be a big roster list of B-movie mercenaries to compare Seagal to that would trump him given his well, shlocky operator action bits.

Watched it few years ago and only enjoyed it for it's japanese parts since foreign languages is my passion. It really fails to build the tension, Seagal's could've/should've start killing the bad guys long before he actually did since he knew who they are and he's invincible anyway

Only reason I watched this movie... Because Japan. Only reason I turned it off after 30 minutes.... Because Seagal. Steven Seagal teaches patty cake patty cake as a martial art. I did end up watching the whole movie it was just ok better than the other movies that's for sure.

I consider myself a aging martial arts comedic review aficionado but after watching this movie just now I am really struggling. They had a few great moments like segal pretending to speak Japanese and dubbing it in and a sound track that sounded like a bootleg blade movie soundtrack but this was just bad. Usually it's so bad it's good. I have a minimum of 20 of his movies from after 92 when he stopped making decent movies under my belt and this might be the worst yet. He generally doesn't even bother acting in them and the stunt doubles half his weight tend to be a good laugh but he seemed to put some effort into this movie. This one has me struggling to find the comedic aspects of how bad it is. Edit: I forgot to mention the really bad cgi government technology scenes. Those made me laugh.
I would agree! Occasionally these later movies have moments in them where I think "oh, he isn't terrible in this scene" but usually that feeling is short lived

He says all of nothing after someone else speaks to him in emotional manner. He limp wristedly holds the assault rifle and doesn't even bother aiming. That makes it hilarious because it is so bad. Compared to that movie his performance here is Academy award winning. He put more effort into this role then I ever expected. It took the comedic value out of the film for me and it just ended up being really bad.

These movies from the first half of the decade should really be renamed "Look who's walking" (I-XVI and counting). These days he just sits mumbling by a table and needs a body double for ab-so-lutely everything. You have actors doing their own stunts, and then there are actors who need a stand-in for even getting out of a car.
