Saw the film yesterday, I’m a 27 yr old guy living in a city in Canada. I walked in to the theater thinking there will be nothing in the film that I could relate to, I mean a remote Irish island in 1925. But boy I found a little bit of myself in all the characters, like they were holding up a mirror to my face. Kind of a movie that grows on you slowly.

And I watched this on New Year’s Eve with MY 27 year old daughter and we both were amazed at how well the story was told, and how invested in the characters we both were. It was laugh out loud funny, sweet, but then became as dark as you can get. It’s such a simple premise but you’re glued to the screen. It should be ranked right up there in the best of the best films of the year. Wow!

When I was in school, some Irish travelers joined our group of friends (for a few weeks). And I still, all these years later, remember his description of Guinness in the right part of Ireland vs. everywhere else. At the end he said, "It's like an angel dancin' on me tongue." (Imagine an Irishman, complete with accent, and with an enraptured expression on his face.) And that's just one example. 😂😂😂😁

The Irish? When people makes such lazy, sweeping statements, it’s so inaccurate. There is no such thing as the ‘irish’; it’s just a conceptual construction. All irish are different and if you take a sample of just hundred people living in Ireland, you will discover a range of diverse and highly complex individuals of every variation imaginable. Statements starting with ‘Black people’ or ‘Christians’ or ‘Muslims’ or whatever is just wrong. I suggest you buy a microscope.

They get More pay for doing Less work or none at all while the working class are given the least pay for doing the most unwanted jobs/tasks.
The middle class don't have the accent sound of the country as they are thought to speak and act differently to the majority of people of their countries. The least Irish people are upper and middle class people. That goes for other cultures.

@@Sharyk808 summer months of June, July and August would be tourist season, June would be the cheapest time out of these months, don’t be expecting summer weather!!! You MAY get summer weather but you could also get 4 seasons of weather in one day🤣 so bring rainwear, jumpers(sweaters), t-shirts and sunglasses and most importantly an umbrella ☔️ it rains a lot here🤪Also to come around March 17th St Patrick’s day would probably be expensive also. Don’t just stick to Dublin as I see some tourists do, they fly into Dublin, stay there and fly back out again. Spend 2 days in Dublin and then head to the west coast, Mayo, Galway, Aran Islands, Clare, Kerry, west Cork - stunning scenery. Fly into Dublin out of Shannon. Do your research and if/when you come - enjoy 😊

It was a good movie....but not what I would call great. Thought In Bruges was great and much better than this.
Main problems I had with the film is the story/plot. Would somebody really cut off their fingers just in protest because a former friend won't leave him alone? Very implausible ...or it seems so to me.
And just because his former friend has completely rejected his friendship with him....he goes and burns his house down? Really? Seems very unlikely and implausible to me. And this was nothing like a male-female romance breakup. This is just a couple guy friends who are going their separate ways.
Not saying it is a bad film. Guess I just am not really buying the premise oft he film. I know some may say it is the small island community that helps to make the premise more believable. Ok I get you on that. But still....the plot and premise of this film is a real stretch for me.

@@LindaC616 I just checked, but no it doesn't seem to be based on a novel so, as far as I can gather, is an original script. It tells the story of a superficially racist, often deliberately obtuse Irish 'garda' or police officer - who teams up with a 'play by the book', African-American FBI agent (Don Cheadle) to roll up an Anglo-Irish drug smuggling ring (Mark Strong, Liam Cunningham).
In Calvary Brandon Gleeson plays a catholic priest who receives notice he will die within a number of days and soon finds his church burned down. He sets out to investigate who in town might be responsible, and finds most of his parishoners to be anything but good Catholics; cynical, disillusioned, full of vices and misgivings.
That's the best I can summarize them anyways.
