Should have taken rooted earlier. When in VATS, you are considered standing still, so you gain the bonus from it, even as a melee character. So even if VATS makes you lunge forward towards a target, you're technically not moving. ManyATrueNerd did this in his Melee Only playthrough.
@@HazzorPlaysGames Well VATS doesn't necessarily describe what state it puts you in for melee, especially since it has the lunge. (I hope you have text to speech on for these)
another less-broken quirk about rooted is that it only checks if you’re not moving when the hit connects, meaning that you can start a swing while moving, and as long as you stop moving by the time the hit connects, you get the rooted bonus.
A small fact that no sane person should know but in fallout 4 third person increases melee attack speed and damage with it making the heavy melee weapons swing faster than the light ones
There's also one that does 25% more damage for every consecutive hit. Naturally, when it drops on a ripper, it becomes completely and utterly fucking busted.
I find it fascinating that, regardless of the game being played, Hazzor continues to play Rimworld music in the background. Truly a testament to such a banger soundtrack.
You can set Strength at 10, pop a Day Tripper, use the Special Book and add the point to Strength and you end up with a default 11 Strength and 12 with the Bobblehead
@@FluffytheDestwoyerofworlds Nope, if its 10 when you use it you get 11, since it doesnt unlock new skills it only enchances abilities it increases E.G. STR gives more melee damage + carry capacity
melee builds are unironically some of the most powerful the game has to offer. Early game is pretty rough but once you get past that you can one-tap a deathclaw pretty consistantly
Blitz allows you to close the distance, eliminating the most beneficial part of any ranged weapon; the amount of bonuses melee weapons get is also fuckin nuts. Ninja gives 10x stealth damage, Rooted increases your damage by 50% (counts for VATS), Yao Gui meat is bugged and gives 500% melee damage, Party Girl gives +6 STR from a Dirty Wastelander, etc. You can stack insane damage on melee and once you have Blitz, you've negated any advantage guns have.
If you had maxxed out your Strength before picking up the bobblehead, you'd have had 11 Strength. You can even get to 12 by ingesting Daytripper (temporarily lowering your Strength), then picking up the "You're SPECIAL"-book near Shaun's crib in Sanctuary.
I did something similair to this, except it was a glass cannon stealth build. I ran around in a clean grey suit slaughtering raiders with blunt and bladed instruments, and eventually upgraded to ballistic weave later in the run.
Listening to video in a background tab, hear, "But once it's eventually dealt with, it drops Ron Jeremy. Don't Google that" Wait ... what? Roll it back ... @33:26. Take my upvote, ya filthy animal.
Something you can do if you have a legendary version of a weapon but you have the normal version upgraded without perks, you can remove the mods and apply them ln the legendary one.
Don't know if you knew this, but here's something interesting. In the Concord house with the Nuka Quantum in the fridge, there's a baseball bat right behind the front door when you open it. I only figured this out from Dogmeat.
Fun fact about the Piper dialogue: If you just walk up, smack her in the back of the head and then 'give up' by putting your weapon away, it immediately skips to the gate opening.
29:31 I know I'm being a powergamer here, but I usually like to get the bobbleheads when I'm already at 10 of that atribute, so it levels your atribute up to 11. Extra, usually unaccesible, stats are extra stats XD
A little tidbit I figured out during my melee playthrough: two handed melee weapons don't have their own third person attack animations when you're in power armor, they share animations with medium weapons. These animations are significantly faster, so if you get in power armor and go into third person, you can get a big dps boost with the right melee weapons.
Just so you know, if you had previously upgraded strength to 10, getting the bobble would’ve put you up to 11, the only way to get a permanent point extra I’m pretty sure. 27:25
For future reference: A lot of weapon-mods can simply be removed. Meaning that, if you find a weapon with the right mods, that you can't otherwise make, you can remove the mods and put them on the right legendary weapon, provided they're the same kinds of weapons.
Fun fact about main stats like Strength, they have no upper limit. If you set your strength to 10, and get a debuff that lowers it by 1, picking up the bobblehead puts it back to 10, and removing the debuff puts it at 11. This does grant you the same incremental damage increase. Under Shaun's crib is the "You're special!" book, which allows you to put an extra point into any stat that isn't lvl 10 yet, but the debuff trick works for this too, meaning you can total 12 in any main stat, and 11 in all others, if you don't screw it up of course.
You can actually get your base strength up to 12 using the special book and the bobblehead. While having your strength naturally at 10, take daytripper to reduce it to 8 temporarily which allows you to use the special book to increase even though you wouldn't normally be able to. Once the daytripper wears off you'll have 11 strength and picking up the bobble head increases it again to 12. If you still want more you can go and collect the grognak costume for a further +2 strength and +20% melee damage.
You can’t wear full armor with grognaks. Better to wear power armor with the STR upgrade and chems for more strength. Or just eat a Yao guai roast and 1 hit everything.
the far harbor dlc especially gets a lot of well-deserved flak for it's absolutely awful ending, where the "good" ending where all three factions get along requires you to effectively establish puppet vassal states controlled by a shadow government lead by an immortal dictator, but it's ok according to the writers I guess because he feels sad about it or some such nonsense. Seriously, basically all of the storylines involving synths in fallout 4, despite it being like, THE plot hook for the game, are complete trash.
The Dima storyline for Far Harbour is some of the best writing in the game. It's a nice evocation of a lot of the android stories from the golden age of sci-fi. Just because you don't agree with it, doesn't make it bad. That being said, the main game storyline is pretty mid, yeah. It's fairly reductive in it's portrayal of the factions and the endings. Like three out of four factions think the best thing to do with the highly advanced science facility below the Commonwealth is to blow it all to high heaven instead of using it to, you know, try and improve life in the Wasteland. Maxson's brotherhood is quite frankly a travesty compared to Elder Lyons' Brotherhood in FE3. It felt like for FE4 they felt they needed to make the Brotherhood the grimdark bad guys because they've been the post faction for pretty much every Fallout game other than New Vegas. They essentially got the 40K and GoT treatment. All of the faction internal conflicts in FE3 were just dropped for the sake of simplicity. The Railroad is just plain boring as a main faction and should have been a minor one instead and the Minutemen are a rather aimless and bland romanticized 'american frontier' analogue. The only vaguely interesting faction is the Institute but instead of actually using them for an interesting dilemma, they are almost comically evil. At least they managed to throw in a couple of Institute characters that ponder upon the central conflict of the story a bit more but none of them are actually part of the storyline and have no effect on the ending. Diamond City originally teases some of that conflict but it's pretty much dropped entirely shortly after you enter. I imagine that a lot of the story aspects that the writers wanted to include in the base game were shafted towards Far Harbour instead either for development reasons or because somebody in decision making thought it might be too divisive. You've got the Brotherhood equivalent in the religious zealots, the Institute equivalent in Dima and his work behind the scenes and the Minutemen equivalent in the Settlement that is caught in the grips of power plays, paranoia, zealotry and just people trying to make a living.
The story is pretty bad. Fallout 4 has a fun world to explore, and a very solid core gameplay loop that’s made amazing with survival mode, but the narrative is… extremely weak.
I really like your videos! The combination of light storytelling through your narration and the jokes sprinkled here and there make for real comfy watching. They remind me of Ambiguous Amphibian's stuff, but also the late Mitten Squad, may he rest in peace. Keep up the great work!

Hey Hazzor big fan of your vids! Just so you know, if you are ever playing this game in the future and want to skip Piper’s dialogue outside Diamond City, you can just hit her. Melee VATS builds are really fun to play. One of the Best bonuses that you get from a melee build is Caps Caps and more Caps, from all the bullets and explosive ammunition you can sell, as its weight doesn't encomber you nearly as much as guns and other projectile weaponry. The combination of Rooted and Blitz is extremely OP, although you might trigger the bug that teleports you near the Institute secret entrance if you use VATs as heavily as I do. My next playthrough is probably going to be a melee build again, just because I've been playing a lot of guns and sniper builds and melee is the nice change of pace I need.

If you ever want to avoid the turrets on the roof of Hagen, you can get into the fort through the connected parking garage. Go left around the building from where Dogmeat leads you and you can go through the garage to gain access to the fort
The whole time I'm looking forward for the 12 strength. Because I didn't mention the special book 27 minutes in. I mention it directly when the 9 strength were pointed out. Because the special book and the bobbleheads can be used even when the stat is already on 10, which means you can bring all one stat to 12 and the rest to 11, plus whatever your clothing and armor and chems and so bring.
I once did a survival melee focused run build pre fusion core weight patch, was a long time ago. a legendary explosion minigun dropped it sure changed things from there on out was pretty pre mods too what a time.
Melee weapons, I've been having some nice rip and tear with the Throatslicer from Nuka World. Fast, Wounding, and with a cutlass mod it throws additional bleeding on.
Melee is just good fun. Ill admit to still using thrown stuff, for turrets and people high up however. I got thrown weapons mods as well, Throwing spears into super mutants and robots in particular is very gratifying
I Absolutely love Melee builds in fallout 4, they feel so visceral and I always get a rush running into battle and smashing or slashing my way through a group of enemies.
If you start with max strength and then lower your strength through chems, the special book will raise it to eleven, add on the bobblehead and that's twelve base strength without anything equipped or change used
Yknow you can get 10 strength from creating the character. Get a withdrawal effect to reduce your strength, use the special book to get a point back and get the bobble head to get a flat 12 strength. Then pair that with items to boost strength (power armor effects. Legendaries, chems, etc.)

If you ever want to avoid the turrets on the roof of Hagen, you can get into the fort through the connected parking garage. Go left around the building from where Dogmeat leads you and you can go through the garage to gain access to the fort
4:50 wait til Greg learns there's a bat hidden behind the door of the very first house on the right when going from Red Rocket to Concord.
Jamaica plain has the best bat
The whole time I'm looking forward for the 12 strength.
Because I didn't mention the special book 27 minutes in. I mention it directly when the 9 strength were pointed out.
Because the special book and the bobbleheads can be used even when the stat is already on 10, which means you can bring all one stat to 12 and the rest to 11, plus whatever your clothing and armor and chems and so bring.
I once did a survival melee focused run build pre fusion core weight patch, was a long time ago. a legendary explosion minigun dropped it sure changed things from there on out was pretty pre mods too what a time.
The Brotherhood was always meant to be very gray in their morality at best. The Fallout 3 chapter are breakaways and renegades.
Girthy Greg:
50% Thicc
50% Florida
50% SMASH
150% The hero nobody asked for.
God speed Greg {---}7
New editor arrived? The video looks good 👌❤️
I heard a little music from Hardspace: Shipbreaker. Love that game, and the OST is SO GOOD.
it's very good, I learned to play that track (pretty badly lol) I liked it so much.
@@HazzorPlaysGames I'll play it when I'm really bored, but then the story depresses me cause it's so close to what we have going on today.
Did the entirety of Far Harbor on a melee only build and didn't pick up Atom's Judgement, the strongest melee weapon in FO4.

on either side of it. They will remove options or reset tires. It makes hacking stupid easy.
As a melee main in all games possible...looks bout right!
fun fact: you can find a baseball bat really early behind the open door of the first house to the right in concord when going past RR
Greg did not get the mayor's key stealthily the mayor was simply too terrified about giant 7 foot tall super human going through his pockets
Jet, psycho, and a super sledge goes amazing in green tech against the gunners and courser
I like how you had a 15 minute segment for going to far harbor just because of a BOS side mission 🤣
Huzzah! Hazzor has uploaded, and im early enough for it to be 15 minutes ago!
Jokes aside though, great content as usual! More fallout is always welcome
A tip for melee builds you can get a sledgehammer at the quarry I noticed you didn’t grab it. Behind the bilge pumps.
