- The Johnny Bravo cartoon we all know and enjoy started out as an entirely different idea- and to this day- that idea has never been released in full.

I asked Van Partible about this when I was at Loyola Marymount University. He said the short would never be released because it used the Miles Davis song "Whole Mess o' Blues."
Ah really? That's interesting. I wonder if there's a way he could either edit the song out, or just mute the audio. But I also wonder if anyone would even go after Van, since a non-profit TH-cam unlisted upload wouldn't really affect anyone.
I'd still see it, even if the actual Elvis song was used. Maybe because of Partible's success with Bravo with "Mess" as the basis, the estate of Elvis may demand for some sort of royalties.
So apparently it was an Elvis song? Makes more sense, but I swear Van said Miles Davis. This was years ago, so maybe my memory's faulty.

I'm sure that if there were three the other 2 would be Johnny's brothers, they'd obviously have their own names and they'd all be a complete hassle
It is a student film, so it wouldn't surprise me if Van wasn't in the mood of sharing that in its entirety. Many animators often do that in their early years and never share their films with others unless through close friends. I've seen plenty of work of this sort that have circulated out there including stuff from those familiar names like Butch Hartman.

This isn't always true however, just look at Gravity Falls and The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy. Both of those shows had very low quality pilots that ended up getting released online.

Billy and Mandy in Trepanation of the Skull and You eventually got released, so I think it's very possible this could one day. Really just depends on what kind of person Van Partible is compared to Maxwell Atoms

I want to go back in time to 2000. That was the best time of my life as a kid. No cares, tons of awesome cartoons, and no games that are broken on release.
A quick edit since so many people have been replying about this, Yes I know there were games broken on release back then, but the vast majority of them weren't broken unlike today's gaming market where its pretty much normal business to fuck over your consumers and give them broken games on release.

We also had emo music, post-grunge, shitty movies with bad CGI crammed in every scene, the Matrix 2 an 3 and all its knockoffs, Nickelback, 9/11, Doom 3, cringe everywhere, the downfall of Sonic the hedgehog, dancing emo spider man, Driv3r, eminem, Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, Who let the dogs out, St. Anger, unreal tournament 2003, newgrounds...

I would like to see "The Mystery of Lost Uglydolls." Many of the plushes of the Uglydoll line have either gone unreleased or disappeared, such as Picky. It would be very intresting!
Dexter's Lab and Johnny Bravo were a big part of my early childhood. The heavy Elvis references also inspired my interest in early rock music which, "Mess of Blues" was a popular Elvis song. I wouldn't be surprised if the full concept video was animated to the song basically making a music video.

Oh hey, turns out one of the people I follow on tumblr was taught by Van. He showed the class the pilot.
When I asked if it included the elvis song, and if that’s why it wasn’t released, they replied “no he just likes it being a fun little personal thing that he can share with people he meets. He advocates keeping things just for yourself and your friends and that not everything needs to be shared online”
Reminds me of the episodes of an old British kid's show from my younger days. Many episodes are still missing but they're gradually being uploaded about 4 years on from my active searching days. Eventually these things turn up. Somewhere there may be someone who knows how to get it and they'll upload it to TH-cam

Well Craig McCracken did release the Powerpuff girls pilot he did in college, so it is possible he could release the pilot if he does what Craig McCracken did on the Powerpuff girls anniversary.
The part I remember about Johnny Bravo is when he gets turned into a pretzel by a girl he was flirting with. Don't know why but it's always been stuck in my mind.
Come to think of it, I remember playing those CN games, one with the chicken and cow running around and I remember I had to find duck(duct?) tape for Cow. Another game which was my favourite was this one where all of the 2000's characters were like... in a big house-ish thing? Maybe it was water balloons or something else, but I remember it was a lot of fun.
UPDATE: I found the one about the duck tape thing, apparently it's Summer Resort, and the graphics are a lot lower than what I remember but the dialogue does remind me of it. Nice.
On factual and interesting videos such as this, I always wonder who that minority of dislikes comes from, and why? Did they not like the content, the subject?? I just don’t see what 11 people would dislike
Maybe it was so different from the original series that they're hesitant to release it in full. All I know is it will probably be shown in the future, like the billy and mandy concept pilot.

Mess o Blues is one of the orginal lost media “Holy grails”. Next to Cracks,847,clockman and cry baby lane . But the problem with Mess o Blues is that there is only one copy of it and Mr.Partible doesn’t want to release it. The only way it gets released is if he releases it or Hanana Barbera made a copy but that is highly unlikely

I’d try looking at the animation & cartoon section of the video section on archive.org aka the way back machine. I’ve seen so many people upload rare and common tv shows, movies, music, etc. to the website so I’d try there if you have no other leads
I probably hope one day if I can contact the creator of the show who has the physical copy of the meso blues short that was made in 1993 I will upload it on my archive channel

There is the possible chance that LMU owns the rights to Partible's senior thesis. Which can prevent the release. I know for some schools will claim the rights to student film projects but I don't know how Loyola works.

I've been getting tons of requests for kids stuff like that ever since the Backyardigans pilot, so maybe if I decide to shift focus into that field for a bit I could. But as for now there are a few other main cartoon topics to take care of.

Classic my bum. Johnny Bravo was awful imho. The main character was obnoxious, way too overlay flirty to a cringeworthy level, this made the show garbage. It aired for 4 seasons too long if you ask me.
