    Nice review. On point and very well explained as always. The car looks like a good family electric option. I’m still not sold on EV’s yet. It’s getting there. But I’ve done over 400 miles a day in the past. Once we get to a stage when regular EV’s can hit near these, with real world Range, then I’ll been convinced. I think EV’s are great at the moment for short trips such as school run and shopping etc. but any kind cross country journeys and I would start to worry. First on the Range, then on finding fast and adequate charging stations.

    • @MrCalnadrak
      @MrCalnadrak 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I presume you didn’t stop once when you made the 400 mile trip? This car (the Ioniq 5) can recharge to 80% in 20 - 30 mins. I defy anyone to stop, have a wee and possibly get some food in less time and be rested enough to drive safely. I’ve driven an EV for the past 18 months and travelled to Devon, Cornwall and Liverpool on a single charge. What really convinced me I was right was that I did over 6000 miles at a ‘re-fuel’ cost of £130.
      I’m literally waiting for them to deliver this exact spec of car as I type this comment and I can’t wait to drive it to Devon this weekend ☺️

    I love your concise reviews. Cannot wait to see your futur Kia EV6 review. I like both models exterior styling but prefer the Kia’s interior design - just a shame it doesn’t have the sliding back bench. Also the Meridian Sound option is important to me. Sadly with Hyundai & Kia it seems the turning circle remains the same if you opt for the propulsion only, whilst with the VW group car if you do not opt for the 4 wheel drive you get a city car turning radius

  • @ISuperTed
    @ISuperTed 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    It is a great car. I test drove one a couple of weeks ago. Apart from the styling which is amazing what struck me the most was the interior space (but not the boot - see later comment) and the refined smooth ride. The dash is lovely and the whole feel inside is great. However for me it had a fatal flaw that meant I’ve gone for another car - the boot is really shallow. I have a big dog and camp a lot and need something more squared off at the back. That and no roof rails/factory towbar options meant it had to be a no. It’s a real pity as in every other aspect this is a superb car. What did I go for? - an Audi Q4 E-Tron - as a company car driver it’s the same price as an Ionic 5 (and cheaper than a Skoda Enyaq). The Q4 is also a great car - not as adventurous but for me is practical enough. I will say though that if I was a private buyer I would have got the Enyaq. Got to hand it to Hyundai though - the Ionic 5 would be my first choice without the shallow boot.

    Another very good review from an excellent presenter - but I'm sorry to disagree about the cars' pricing - it's absurdly overpriced - like nearly every other EV - why on earth are these things so expensive? - can an electric motor and battery pack really cost this much more than an engine, gearbox and clutch? I've a suspicion that manufacturers are making a whopping great profit selling these things to affluent people obsessed with owning an EV - but I hope I'm wrong!

    • @1958plymouth440V8
      @1958plymouth440V8 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m afraid they really do cost that much. Cutting edge technology comes at a price - specifically, expensive materials. People want bigger capacities for bigger range, so they need more expensive materials like lithium, manganese and cobalt (although manufacturers are pushing hard to reduce this). That, combined with high R&D costs needed to develop and produce a safe and efficient high capacity battery that charges quickly for consumers means the cost will invariably reflect on us. Just keep in mind that over time, electric car batteries continue to get cheaper and cheaper. Back in 2010, the $ per kWh was nearly 9x more expensive than it is today.
      That being said, we might also experience a rise in battery prices once more due to the pandemic, as supply of valuable materials dry up and around 40% of an EV’s battery cell uses these commodities that have fallen into short supply.

    • @jamesinbradford5882
      @jamesinbradford5882 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They still have engines to sell, until they’re gone EV’s will cost a lot more !

    • @Hi-vy9lu
      @Hi-vy9lu 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it is. Demand for lithium is rising right now and yet those thing is still pricey. It is true that the price of battery pack is started slowing down by years. But the high demand, would pump up the price. And knowing this technology with really high charging speed that could stand over years, could be considered as new and still in developing phase (in terms of safety, sizes, weight, and the list going on).
      Not only the battery, also the platform that they've been used. It takes forever to build them, because in 2010 (usually new car platform release within 10 years from the predecessor release date) the era of ev car development was just started. Right now, their product generally still on the 1st gen of production after long period of development. Like the new samsung foldable phone, the 1st gen was expensive as hell. Right now, the 3rd gen, the price started to decreased significantly, even with more feature and durability then it's predecessor.
      I think it worth spend of money. Although in general, it would cost a bit much money than a conventional car. As a wannabe tech geek, I really love this car, but also hoping that someday the price of the ev car would get down as the price of the conventional car😅
      Sorry for bad english, this is the conclusion that I interpretate from my lecture recently. I hope there's nothing wrong about my interpretation, so you can get a legit information from this comment. Hope this help😁

    A small thing that struck me during this great review (as usual) was if there would be a safety concern about the wide open front floor between driver and passenger. I'm in my 60's and yes there have been other vehicles with no seperation - but kids, toys, animals, balls, tipping shopping bags, stroppy passengers, throwing from the rear seats etc . well I would be a bit nervous as a driver or passenger on a long trip.
    I also agree a bit better range in 2021 to get close to ICE standards would be better.
    Not a fan of the drawing board styling, but what do I know at my age. I do like their regular motors.

    IMHO, IONIQ 5 vs TESLA MODEL Y... :
    Tesla great job, max speed, range especially leveraging its shape and weight. Still prefer, being in Europe, comfort. 99% of my trips are within 200kms one way. With the Hyundai IONIQ 5, I do look forward to ventilated seats, Android Auto, the roomy and comfortable interior, HUD, real blindspot monitoring, 360 camera. Also like reclining seats with foot rest and reclining console for arms rest, all electronic aids especially against collisions, automated parking (top trim), blind spot cams on dashboard when turning, V2L, sun shades integrated in back doors, electric sunroof shade, wide space available inside with good visibility through the back window etc.
    And the obviously efficient 400V to 800V internal battery inverter for fast charging.
    Other bugs with Tesla : Model 3 too low on the ground (Model Y is a perfected Model 3); door handles too complicated for kids and scratchy with persons with long finger nails; blue jeans bleed on those white seats.; simplistic navigation system(whereas under ANDROID AUTO, ABRP beta notably has settings for car weight, or TomTom Go 's use of all offline maps etc. ); quality of paint jobs ; mediocre internal lighting; loud alerts not compatible with family driving; max AWD weight capacity 300 Kg.
    Also 5 year car warranty illimited kms (Max 80 000 for Tesla... Reliability issues?), and 8 year battery warranty (same as Tesla).
    Comment by Park Shawn translating from Korean to English this video :
    th-cam.com/video/rWBAJu_S4lk/w-d-xo.html
    Ionic 5 LR and Model Y LR both have similar spec including weight, battery sizes. Details can be found on google. Here are some highlights from the conclusion they brought up at the end of the video. 1. Both car's AVG speed were about 100KM/h (Highway drive) 2. Both car's A/C and other convenience functions(like Highway drive assistance for Ionic 5, Auto Pilot for Model Y and etc.) were always on during the test. 3. 4 drivers drove about 100km per person and checked the remaining battery at designated location. 4. Both car have shown slightly poor battery performance than usual because of the weather condition (rain) 5. By just looking at the specification, Model Y can drive 141km more than Ionic 5. However the actual drive test have shown that the difference were only about 60~70km. This experiment have shown that IONIC 5's driving range is little longer than what Hyundai advertised. 6. They have concluded that both Ionic 5 and Model Y can drive from Seoul to Busan. The distance between those two cities are about 350km. Hope this helps.
    Furthermore, according to JD POWER, KIA (Hyundai Group) #1 in reliability before Toyota. Tesla bottom. German automakers middle of the road (Mercedes, Audi)...

    i hear this car over heats the battery, when it's charging and running the H-VAC at the same time. so, no AC or heater when CCS fast charging. they should put two H-VAC so you can be comfortable while charging. one to cool or heat the battery and the other cool or heat the cabin. not just one or the other.

    Charging wil take about an hour and 10 minutes for charger that have 37kwh to 59 kwh and only reach the latest early morning of the day and if you need to charge in cold night and you are not near home or shops/cafe you need to wrap up warm sitting in cold not fun it's sat nave showing the charging points is not up to speed most of the changes point doesn't exist after arriving using sat nav saying that most of the charging app map is the same

    Another overpriced EV.. Great.. Let's pay £40-50,000 for lots of sub standard plastics.. Then we can have driving styles based around hunting decent chargers so you can finish your trip without going dead on you..
    Why can't we just stick to low emission petrol or diesel vehicles that have none of these EV issues? In 20-30 years we could then have the possibility of hydrogen vehicles..

      My guess is you have never actually driven an EV! Book a test drive and you will be sold

      @@flashback9966 hi. I have driven a couple.. Nissan leaf and a Tesla Model 3.. I did appreciate them as short range and going into town but the longer trips and charging wasn't my thing.. I tried the leaf in summer where having the AC on greatly reduced the range and for the Tesla the winter test brought much reduced range..
      As for superchargers, well they are excellent but there are not as many as I would like.. I live in France and often travel to Germany 500-800km single trips.. I looked at the Tesla map and there were not as many as I would need.. I normally break the trip once but many of these trips were saying I needed 2 stops plus a destination stop for charging... This would be a pain and limit my choice of routes...
      Perhaps they are good for some people but at the price they charge I would say no..
      I'm considering the RAV4 plug-in so I can do 2 or 3 local town trips on electric only and then for longer trips I can use the engine and refill at any station..
      In 10 years I'm sure things will have improved.. I'm also sure that battery EV vehicles are a temporary stepping stone.. Hydrogen combustion engines offer so much more and without super heavy, super expensive batteries.

    The boot is tiny in relation to the car and no frunk, utterly impractical. Efficiency is not great either which is rather important with an EV

    Outstanding electric car,? Sorry, no such thing.

    Hyundai always steals styling cues from many other manufacturers. In this case Tesla’s Cybertruck. This is only slightly less ugly. Interior is crap, like all Hyundais and of course they price it like it’s the equivalent of the prestige Europeans. They’re not, and never will be.

    Please make a separate channel for the EV so those of us who like real cars don't get our youtube feed clogged up with these jumped-up milk floats
