One of These Nights is actually a tribute to victims of the Sewol Ferry tragedy, a tragic incident in Korea where 304 people were killed, 250 being high school students. There are a lot of parts of the MV that directly reference this, but the most chilling part for me is the fact that Yeri is lying in the canoe in the rain because she was the same age as the students who were on the ferry.
Also, the deep voice was Irene! She and Yeri usually (not always) take over the lower harmonies in the chorus.
I believe the first pre-chorus is Irene on the lower end and the second pre-chorus is Yeri. So good...
After I heard that for the first time I began to research the ferry disaster and it's so tragic that watching the video hurts my heart. It's a truly beautiful tribute.

It CONTINUES TO MAKE ME CRY LIKE CRAZY DUDE...It's actually a tribute to victims of the Sewol Ferry tragedy, a tragic incident in Korea where 304 people were killed, 250 being high school students. There are a lot of parts of the MV that directly reference this, Irene touching her nose to the water, and then her falling scene as the porthole explodes and water rushes in, Seulgi walking down the darkening hallway at the end, but the most chilling part I would say is the fact that Yeri is lying in the canoe in the rain because she was the same age as the students who were on the ferry. Irene was using her low register which is the deeper voice you hear.
-"Russian Roulette" is probably one of my favorites. It's chiptune, 1950's vibe makes me SO HAPPY. Also the Itchy Scratchy from "The Simpsons" references throughout bro I died. Also Yeri with red hair. I AM JUST SAYIIIIIIIIIIING.
-"Rookie" proooooooooobably one of the most divisive songs in their discography. I haaaaaated it at first, but like dude by listen 3 I discovered just how genius it is, all the layering, the visuals, everything. This I THINK is also the first MV where you kind of see their underlying storyline of Irene controlling everyone come into play.
-"Red Flavor" My 4rd favorite title track behind "Feel My Rhythm", "Psycho", and "Bad Boy." The whole MV and summer feel are all the explanation it needs. ALSO I HIGHLY RECOMMEND AS A SIDE VIDEO OR SOMETHING TO DO IN YOUR OWN TIME, there is a full ORCHESTRAL VERSION of this. ITS SO GOOD. OMFG. Yes this song does that. Like this song is what named them the official summer bop queens along with Sistar.
TBH once you hit "Peekaboo" you see the marrying of their Red and Velvet sides and THAT is where everything just goes CRAY.

honestly anyone is missing out big time if they haven't listened to rv b-sides like that's god tier music even better than their title tracks. so many of album tracks are literally the best songs in kpop, they're known as best discography for a reason. i would recommend listening to their albums in full if you guys do plan to do a second series or if not just listen to them on your own especially their album "the perfect red velvet" it has some of their best rnb work.
They do all of their own background vocals… many producers that work with RV say that they are surprised they do all their own bgs. Seulgi also said they do their own ablibs, for each of their parts… I think the behind recordings for RV only started with Queendom.

Since I read the theory I just can't listen to the song without crying, it's a work of art, the music, the colors, The scenes, the chronography of a story, the ways of representing different situations that were known publicly about the case, it's simply art and Red Velvet giving us quality as always

2014 gave the world Wendy, Siyeon and Yoohyeon, Solar Wheein and Hwasa, it was a good year. They didn't have TikTok but also didn't need it because Red Flavor single-handedly owned the summer of 2017 in Korea. I can't wait to see Esosa explode when you get to the pizza house scene in Peek-a-boo (probability dictates you don't know what I mean because after all the times you've watched that scene you STILL haven't seen the pizza house with french fry trim).

I know for sure i’ll never love any other group as much as i love red velvet. There’s something so unique and mesmerizing about them.This is obviously subjective but vocally and musically they are the best girl group out there. The fact that they’re always bringing something new that hasn’t been done before by them or anyone makes me such a proud reveluv. SM really is the best company in terms of producing high quality music, red velvet have such a diverse discography which will always keep you interested. Each member of red velvet could be the lead vocalist in any other group but there are no idols who could replace Wendy as the main vocalist and i do think it’s a fact. Even their most not gp friendly title tracks are hits, and they have some national hits and worldwide popular songs. Billboard has crowned Red Velvet as the best idol group alive and they were so right.

i was new to kpop and when i discovered red velvet they were about to release their album for dumb dumb. it was such a fresh and new experience for me because i got into kpop through 2ne1 and they were badass and cool. i was considering stanning red velvet but i was just a casual fan instead & i've been keeping up with their releases up until psycho.

The song 7월 7일 (One of these nights) performed by the group Red Velvet is a special tribute to the sinking of the South Korean Sewol ferry that killed hundreds of students.
1. The first reference image is a poster of Wendy holding a large paper boat in her lap. Corresponding to the paper boats folded in memory of the Sewol ferry sinking.
2. Next is the album cover, only Yeri (the group's maknae) is blurred out. Because Yeri was 18 years old, the same age as most of the students who died in the disaster that day.
3. At the beginning of the MV, after the group members finished their make-up in the room, the scene shot up close to Yeri's face, if you look closely in the distance, there is a picture with a yellow butterfly on it. In Korea, the yellow butterfly symbolizes hope. Yellow is also the color of the small ribbons in memory of those students.
4. Next is Wendy walking in a hallway. It was a corridor inside the deck, not a hotel corridor. Because based on the light bulbs above the hallway ceiling, you will recognize this.
5. The next visible signs are the words 'AIS on 15-16' on the wall in the first scene at the dressing room and the part where Wendy walks in the deck corridor. AIS, or automatic identification-positioning system, is an automatic tracking system used on ships and by marine traffic services (VTS) to identify and locate ships. The numbers "15 and 16" refer to suspected AIS devices being turned off between the 15th and 16th.
6. The part where Seulgi looks through the keyhole means that she learned the truth that she couldn't get out of that place. The next moment when Seulgi stepped out of the door, the surrounding was surrounded by water.
7. Irene is the one sitting still in the next scene. Correspondingly, the students that day were informed by the captain that they must sit still in the waiting room for the evacuation order. Joy was the one standing outside the window looking in with sad eyes. And Joy corresponds to the survivors then - those who do not sit still in the room.

9. In the next paragraph, Seulgi is the one who learns the truth about the disaster. So she tried to open the window for Wendy but it was too late. The transition is where Seulgi's eyes reflect Wendy's, and Seulgi sheds tears.

11. To the scene where the 5 of them sat together, but only then the screen behind it went dark, leaving only Joy's image. Be the only survivor of the disaster. The remaining 4 people disappeared into the black behind.
12. Seulgi, who should have escaped but ended up being drowned by the water. In this scene, beside her is the screen with the cold, black flood water. Next, Seulgi opened the door to heaven. There everyone (except Joy) was waiting for her in white dresses.

15. Near the end, water flooded in and broke the circular window where Irene was standing.
16. The next scene Irene is lying in a light blue room (symbolizing being submerged in water) on top of which household items such as tables and chairs are floating.

17. At the very end, a member in a white dress walks back into the hallway. If you look closely to the right, you will see an alarm bell used in case of emergency. To the left is the door, with only one doorknob outside. In the sense that there is no way out from the inside anymore. Hopeless.
18. The final sad image is the scene where the member walks to the end of the hallway, when all the lights go out with each step. Then the image of the last light bulb on the wall still on represents the last hope of the students who are still trapped inside.
*The image at the end of the song is a picture of a cloud, with a small full moon rising from the cloud corresponding to the 17th day of the lunar calendar - the day of the full moon. It was the day that the Sewol tragedy happened. It is also the day SM rescheduled the release of Red Velvet's album and MV.

red velvet is my favorite girl group, they always have such a varied and good discography.
As expected their 'Red' side isn't for me as I very rarely like 'traditionally' cute concepts, but their Velvet side, oh my. I feel I also like it more, because in general their superb vocals shine more on these tracks. I still love Red Flavour though, it's just to good of a song.

Seems to be some confusion a bit but the song "One Of These Nights" actually is a Korean folk tale and it isn't about the Sewol Tragedy. The MV is the tribute to it. Hope that helps. Regardless it's beautiful.

Maybe I’m a bit late but the lower key harmony always sung by Yeri, I notice it sometimes and Yerie always get them done so perfect, that’s why she is the 5th member of RV. She was hated quite a lot when she was adding to the group back then but if people understood, they would know Yeri is there in the group for reasons. Go girl!

The Velvet side is what I have always loved way more, but they don't give us that as much. I loved your guys reaction to One of These Nights. When it came out on Spotify I was playing it 3-5 times a day. This song, Be Natural and Automatic are hands down my favorite with Rookie and Psycho not far behind. I just feel the Velvet side lets you see the real talent in this group.

People say One of these nights is based on tragic sewol ship accident, which around 200 students lost their life, the documental is so sad I cry for 2 weeks, redvelvet never have ever confirm it to avoid controversy, but seeing them signing live while crying we all know the song is tribute to the students and the familys that were affected

rookie to me is like when you woke up too early and then u decide to sleep in but then after a couple hours ur just half awake half asleep and ur mind is vaguely stressed and half sleeping and none of it makes sense. love it
if you ever hear a lower tone in the melody/bg its usually Irene like at 3:28 when you pointed it out or Yeri (sometimes wendy too but not as often). Her and Yeri really round out their harmony as a group with their lower registers.

OH MY GOODNESS YES YES YES!! I clicked so fast when I saw the notification, I am so glad that you guys are reacting to more Red Velvet (Yeah you guys totally skipped over Automatic but that's okay you'll see it soon) but holy cow Red Velvet is just something else these Girls are just WOW! One of These Nights is one of the most beautiful Music Videos it's just so Gorgoeus and the Vocals are just something else it actually was about the Sewol (South Korea Ferry) ship wreck which killed almost 300 people, Russian Roulette is one of the most Iconic Red Velvet MV's heck just in general it's so catchy and very shocking at first like okay they're trying to kill each other (Thank God they are done with that and now they just want to kill men! 🤣😂) Rookie and Red Flavour are definitely like a person going to a Red Velvet Concert but they were on drugs or something they are so weird but AMAZING, Rookie isn't my favorite personally but I still love it it's so catchy and funny, and Red Flavour is such a great Music Video (Esosa's face when she realized the song was priceless) this was the song that gave Red Velvet the nickname Summer Queens because it's such an Amazing Summer song the only problem is that Wendy was getting hate because of her weight (Which was HORRIBLE I can't believe people that say they are fans if a Group and then hate on a Member or more) she then went on this diet called the Yoyo diet I think (you should look it up, I'm pretty sure it's where you wouldn't eat really at all and then eat a lot, it was horrible!) Anyways I can't wait for you guys to react to more Red Velvet such as more Music Videos, B - Sides, Live Performances, Covers, Dance Practices, Moments, and of course Ships! Red Velvet used to be my Ult group and Joy was my bias after seeing her on WGM, I was able to see how her personality was, how cheerful she was an instantly clicked with her. I used to love watching so much about them and their music but I lost touch with kpop after 2020 but this video.. and the other red velvet videos have made me remember why I loved kpop and red velvet in the first place. It brought back so much nostalgia and joy (no pun intended) that I used to feel from kpop. I want to get back into it again. (,:
