Shep I've come to realize that you have very good taste in firearms, considering that every time I research something there you are! Thank you for your reviews Sir
I almost always do gun videos, but just to keep people off balance, I`m going to upload a cat video later today. I`d start doing funny cat videos, but the channel mascot never does anything funny. Wants people to pet him and/or feed him, and that`s about all he does. : > )
I did change out the recoil spring for a heavier one not long after I bought it. It`s been so long ago that I don`t recall what weight spring I used. Do remember getting info on a replacement spring on one of the old list forums. The 10mm List possibly? Was 12 or 13 years ago.
I have this same pistol and they are very potent pistols. Very cool to shoot with full tilt 10's and also used a fully supported ramped barrel for strength.
Tanfoglio still makes the Witness in 10mm in a lot of variations from this little compact, to full size ones. Also make them in single action only models.
I got it in 2000 or 2001 if I remember right. The day I made this video (and the video showing the full size Witness 10mm) I was using a mix of Remington factory 180gr FMJ and some of my 175gr hard cast semi-wadcutter reloads. The Remington load is fairly mild by 10mm standards. The reloads had more punch than the Remington ammo, but were not max loads.
The grip diameter is the same as the full size. It`s just shorter. I handle both ok and I have medium size hands. If you want to shoot hot 10mm loads in the EAA, I would change out the recoil springs for heavier ones.
The compact you have the serial starts with EA so it is a large frame and will run all the conversion kits. the slide on your other eaa will probly run on that frame. i asked EAA about mine and the EA frame is large the AE is the small frame.
I see you have 10 round mags as well. They are now 12 and spotty with feed issues.Im hopeing next one is better and ill be more than happy to report a range report when i get it back.
Great vid. That is a real beaut Shep. Spun that big plate right around lol. I would love to have one of these, been toyin with getting a 10mm. Its either this or a G20c. Cocked and locked option is awsome. They still make these?
Thanks. in terms of quality they went downhill from your time of purchase and mine in 2011.The recoil springs are duel now and are not even suited for a Remington round let along the weak stuff.EAA is replacing gun as a crack in frame was discovered.Maybe 2500 rnds, all lite stuff up to a Remi spec.
I have the same pistol with exception the slide is black. Same sights etc. However it's currently at EAA waiting to get replaced as a crack was discovered on frame right behind safety leading to rear. IMHO,this gun is good with weak loads and med range,NOT full loads. It only comes with a 14 lb spring and it's a dual one at that.Wolff does not make them stronger in this model.I ran maybe 2500 rounds before crack found. It's a handful and actually accurate as all.But she kicks.Nice gun.
In a gun this size it has quite a bit more recoil than a full size 45 1911. Maybe 50% more. The difference is not as noticeable with a full size 10mm vs full size 45. Maybe 30% in that case.
I have EAA witness Wonder compact in 9 mm. Bought it 9 years ago. No polymer all metal. Beautiful little gun. this 10 mm version looks just like it, they're almost identical. I just wonder if this 10 mm version is been beefed up to handle 10 mm. I don't think I would want the polymer version of this in 10mm
Well, kind of. They will work, but they don`t fit well. I try never too take myself too seriously. After all, I`m just having fun and getting a little of it on camera. If I really tried being serious about making these videos, it would stop being fun and turn into work. :)
I love the eaa witness. I have 5 now have had about 15 over the years. I believed its one of the most over looked hand guns out there. I have heard the one draw back is customer service. Luckily I have never needed so I can not tell you if its bad or not. And I think ria is importing tanfangelos now to in 9 mm and the 22 TCM. I am really thinking about getting the TCM one.
I have the same pistol chambered in 45 a.c.p. I bought it used and for some reason it shoot really low, I'm thinking of buying the 10m.m. conversion kit.
Just bought one today. I have the 9mms and Love it. I hear the spring is under powered and might need a bigger one. Do I need a heavier spring? What should do use for animal protection?
Nice video. Let me ask you, would you say the recoil action on the compact you show here versus the full size is very noticeable? Also curious if you have shot other 10 mms that don’t have this lower bore axis that I believe CZ pioneered. Just considering this for a bear gun (Grizzly) as my wife is spending a bunch of time this summer in bear country. My only concern is she is slightly recoil sensitive, but I am a bit of a loss on what to do as she is traveling via bike and has to remain very light weight otherwise I would hand here my 40oz. .357 S&W and be done with it. Seems that 10mm has similar to even slightly better ballistics and a lot of guys carry them up there but I am having trouble trying one out currently without buying it online upfront. Any feedback would be highly appreciated, thanks so much!
The felt recoil on the full size is maybe 10-15% less than the compact. Weight difference. You can`t cheat basic physics. Having the bore more in line with your hand doesn`t really reduce the felt recoil. It just redirects it. You get less muzzle rise, but more of the recoil is directed straight back into the web of your hand. Less muzzle rise means you can get back on target faster for a follow up shot, but for someone that is recoil sensitive, more muzzle flip might be more comfortable than that straight back whack into the web of the hand. What she might find more comfortable would probably depend on how strong her wrist is. Either way, best way to get used to recoil is practice.
@@1957Shep thanks so much for the advice. Oh one thing, the names are a little different today I think. Do you know what length barrel that one is? Just trying to figure out what the comparable model is these days
They work well and have a better trigger than a S&W 3rd generation auto. I`ve never seen any DA auto that I thought had a good trigger pull, but these are less sloppy than most. Guess I`m still a single action auto fan as far as trigger pull goes. :)
Any feeding problems with certain 10mm brands or loads? I would not want to buy some 10mm fodder just to discover the pistol is finicky with it. Ammo is expensive. I have a Witness Compact 10mm, early all-steel, squared slide, just like yours in the video.
Aside from some Remington 180gr, I don`t think I`ve ever shot any factory ammo in it. I reload 10mm, so I almost never buy factory ammo in that caliber.
Have you found a holster for it? I haven't had any luck and it's the main thing holding me back. From what I've found, the only option seems to be a custom holster, if you can find someone who'll make one.
Is the compact better for a smaller hands than the full size? Or could someone with medium sized hands handle the full-size? Does EAA rate the gun for +P loads? Thanks for the vid!
Thanks for the reply, the new guns have double recoil springs and I can't find an aftermarket solution anywhere. Until I do my 10 compact is a glorified 40 sw. Still love it though. They said I could cut down a spring for the standard Witness but I'm not sure where exactly to cut it.
Myanameis Beestingz i have a CZ75 and a 97 as well as a Scorpion carbine. I'm still kicking myself for deciding to wait a day after looking at a P-01 some months ago. By the time I'd called to make a deposit less than 20 hours later it was long gone.
1957Shep I've owned CZ products. I have a CZ-52, CZ-82 and owned a CZ-75B, all are very good weapons. The Czechs historically always have made very good guns. Their version of the Mauser 98 was one of the best.
Just an FYI, I purchased one in 2019 and it’s unique double recoil spring failed. I reached out to EAA and was told that they no longer provide a replacement spring. The weapon is now a useless paper weight. In the future I will only purchase weapons from a reputable firearm’s manufacturer.
You can get recoil springs at henningshootsguns.com . Mine had a two spring recoil setup, and I swapped it all out for the .40 cal Hennings set up with modded beefier end, and single spring. Works great for me with 20# spring.
I have both this pistol and its bigger brother in the same finish, also from the early 2000s. 10mm really beats this one up. I have 40 barrels for both and would prefer running this one in 40, but it does feed reliably :( Its probably been 15 years since I shot the full model, I should probably recertify that weapon. Sad 10mm is so expensive to fire.

Sir who did the video EAA witness has ranked above Glock and a lot of common famous names since 2013 the witness in 9mm was number 1 pistol on ths market 2014 and number 2 behind the Cz70 in 2015 witness match elite was ranked number 1 this year. The EAA witness family of pistols are better than anything out there including sig and FN models. They are priced way too low for what you get especially the polymer fram 15 plus 1 full size witness.
Mecgar designed it to hold 14rd. The stock mags suck ass range anywhere from 8-11 round capacity. None of them will hold 12 as advertised. I'm guessing they use crappy followers unlike mecgar which is why the capacity is nearly half of mecgar
I love the eaa witness. I have 5 now have had about 15 over the years. I believed its one of the most over looked hand guns out there. I have heard the one draw back is customer service. Awesome. Nice to see a compact 10MM in action.
how reliable has this compact 10mm been and can it run hot loads like buffalo bore or underwood?
Shep I've come to realize that you have very good taste in firearms, considering that every time I research something there you are! Thank you for your reviews Sir

If you want to shoot hot 10mm loads in the EAA, I would change out the recoil springs for heavier ones.
It packs a good punch.
For the most part I agree with you on that, but the DA trigger pull in the earlier S&W 6906's is pretty nice. :)
Thanks for the info. I looked these up today, very reasonably priced which is a nice bonus.
Might I ask when did you get the compact? Also what rounds did you run thru compact.Nice to see the compact video, first to my knowledge.
I love the fit and finish of those pistols, never got to shoot one yet though!
I really like the 10. great review
The single actions like the long slide Hunter model are higher priced. Never had the chance to shoot one of those, but I hear they are nice.
I have wondered why they didn`t just go to stainless steel. But this hard chrome seems very durable.
The 10mm is a hand full in a gun this small.
The compact you have the serial starts with EA so it is a large frame and will run all the conversion kits. the slide on your other eaa will probly run on that frame. i asked EAA about mine and the EA frame is large the AE is the small frame.
Very nice! My brother's got an EAA Witness full size, in 9mm. I've shot it several times. Great video!
Looks pretty snappy, but you handled it well. I certainly do like the type of chrome finish
That gun looks so good

Are the magazines for the larger frame compatible with the compact? Good vid; by the way. I like your easy going style. It's refreshing for a change.

ive been wanting one of these with the 4.6 inch barrel. its alot less than the glock 20 and ive seen nothing but good reviews on it.

Yeah, I put a Wolff 18.lb recoil spring in my full size Witness 10mm,that helped a lot with slide action, and dealing with 10mm Auto pressures.
Can`t recall how heavy of a spring I put in this one. Been too long ago. But it was 3 or 4 lb heavier than the standard spring.

very nice. how many eaa do you have?
Reminds me a lot of my CZ75 Compact in 9mm. I love my CZ but wanting to get something in 10mm. Maybe one of these would be a good way to go.
These are a copy of the CZ75. Only a few differences.
Any feeding problems with certain 10mm brands or loads?

unkysonny The few times that I`ve carried it, I`ve used a nylon holster for medium size autos
Right size for a carry gun. But in 10mm, a larger gun is a lot easier to shoot.
I wonder how this gun would compare in size to the Glock 29.
looked at one today...looks like the slide is stainless..and frame is cast stainless
How much do you pay per round?
Is the compact better for a smaller hands than the full size? Or could someone with medium sized hands handle the full-size? Does EAA rate the gun for +P loads?
Thanks for the vid!
there is no such thing as 10mm +p
Great review. My brother owns a EAA Windicator.. Do own one of these?
Outstanding Shep!! ;-)
They are good pistols for the money.
Mine seems undersprung, but you say you haven't had a problem with yours. I wonder if Tanfoglio used stiffer springs back when yours was made.
Joseph Kool I replaced the recoil spring when I first bought it. The stock spring seemed better suited to hot 40 S&W loads than for 10mm.
Thanks for the reply, the new guns have double recoil springs and I can't find an aftermarket solution anywhere. Until I do my 10 compact is a glorified 40 sw. Still love it though. They said I could cut down a spring for the standard Witness but I'm not sure where exactly to cut it.
Joseph Kool www.henningshop.com
thanks, but I already emailed them and they have nothing for the compact 10mm Witness.
+Joseph Kool better check again, I saw all kind of parts for the 10 on EAA WEB SIGHT.
Is this based on the CZ75 design? I had a CZ75 compact that I dearly loved. Never should have let it go.
Myanameis Beestingz i have a CZ75 and a 97 as well as a Scorpion carbine. I'm still kicking myself for deciding to wait a day after looking at a P-01 some months ago. By the time I'd called to make a deposit less than 20 hours later it was long gone.
spazzypengin Damn! Hate when that happens. Well, maybe you should take a look at the new CZ P10c. That looks like a sweet shooter also!
yes and no, the cz-75 compact only has one lug on the barrel, this has 2 I think.
I reload my own 10mm ammo. Have not figured up the cost lately.
Thanks for the reply. Other things being equal then, I think I would go with the full size.
Happy shooting!
Hey shep, do you have a CZ type gun to compare this too? I'm wondering how this would compare to a standard 9mm CZ compact
No it`s similar to the CZ75, but I`ve never owned a CZ75 or CZ85.
Only CZ guns that I own are a CZ70 32 and one of their 22 bolt action rifles.
+zeroxwolfx I'm pretty sure this is based on the CZ75 design. That design is apparently the most popular 9mm design in the world.
1957Shep I've owned CZ products. I have a CZ-52, CZ-82 and owned a CZ-75B, all are very good weapons. The Czechs historically always have made very good guns. Their version of the Mauser 98 was one of the best.

If your shooting full tilt loads, what spring are you using?
That is a snappy son of a gun! I like it!

No. I`ve seen a few at gun shows, but have never shot one.
3 of them. A full size 10mm, compact 10mm, and a full size 9mm.

wish it was legal in commifornia..sigh
I see, you take some, you give some. At least the Glock 29 can use the Glock 20's magazines with no problems.
