There aren’t enough colorists who are willing to share basic formula information with students or just-getting-started-stylists. You’re a great teacher! Thank you for sharing.
need suggestions on some formulas currently have about 8 9 and a lot of 10 in my hair I have darker Roots just need to tone or brighten my length and ends I have 10t 10p 10gi and 9N processing solution and the Crystal clear just not sure what formula I should use I dont currently have any v new to all of these shades into the industry please help just not sure of what formula would go together or maybe separate
Really love how well you know this product, and appreciate how well you articulate how to use it. Seriously the best video for Shades EQ that I've found. Thank you!
They won't give you advice because they are frightened of someone getting their formulas but they can't do everyone's hair so well done to this channel the stylist obviously is confident in her ability and should be too. I think she would make a great educational tutor because she explained everything as if you had never used the products or done training. And that's what we need not everyone is at the same level I refuse to sucribe to channel that don't explain what they are using as I think its supposed to be a tutorial so how can you learn if they don't give you the formulas to try. So channel like this i would use daily thanks
Thank you,Danielle. You are an exceptional professional teacher. Thank you for taking time to make this very helpful educational video. Thank you for sharing your wisdom and knowledge expertise. All you do and teach is very much appreciated. Mucho Gracias.
Your a great teacher thank.you! I have come out of retirement after 22 years.. 7 years ... its changed alot!. And we use shades at the salon im in ...but you made it so much more clear in the approach and explanations of the gorgeous colors you get from each shade. Good job. Thanks again
Thank you sooo much, you have just become my favorite hair color expert. Your information is concise and invaluable. I spent days searching to find out what different ShadesEQ products are and how to correctly use them. You don't mess around with all the cutesy stuff, you just get down to business with clear explanations of meanings and uses. What a valuable service you are providing, esp. during this stay-at-home time!
AMAZING!! I can actually understand everything you're saying and it all makes sense now because of the way you present the product thank you sincerely thank you
I came here by accident.... and stayed! Thank you. This clip was extremely interesting... spot on. I love the way how you share your knowledge with us. Thank you. Look forwards to visit your channel. Hugs from UK❤🌷
This video is great!! As a hairstylist, I have not been doing hair for awhile so i feel like I’ve lost knowledge but now that I’ve watched this i want to get back into doing hair more than lashes!! Thank you! :)
Just so people know, the "clear" does NOT make the color "lighter"!! It makes it PALER, it will not lighten your hair to a further level, it will dull the severity of the color.
Less concentrated and paler means less pigment I. The formula. It can absolutely come out lighter. It won’t turn a level 7 to a 9, but it absolutely might be a 7.5 or 8.
Thank you thank you thank you!! I messed up my bayalage and ended up with red/orange hair. After I watched a TON of videos I landed on your channel which is the most comprehensive on toners and Redken Shades EQ. I ended up doing 07NB for the root and 08GN for the rest and it came out perfect (like a medium blonde which is what I was going for to begin with)! I LOVE your videos & how they're easy to comprehend. Keep em coming! 💚
Daniella, would love to see an updated video with the new level 10’s. Favorite formulas etc., also add timing. I know 20 minutes is standard processing time, but we all know if you leave certain shades on that long they would get too dark. Do you have an average processing time for toning blondes? 💜💙💛
I learned so much from this video. I also like your style of how you described everything. Your tone is sweet and made me feel comfortable. I’m definitely looking forward to more videos from you.
😊 thank you for heaping good people in our industry. I am getting close to graduate as a cosmetologiest. And I still don't understend to much about coloring hair we know basics. But, well thank you for helping...😊❤
Great video!! My hair is long, very dark, Kim Kardashian, look. For the past 15 years my hairdresser has been applying Redkends Shades to eliminate the red tones and add shine. I love the results and that's why I keep going back!! I've been wanting to do my hair at home for economical reasons but I felt I couldn't. I happened to come across your tutorial and it's very helpful. It would be great If you did more videos that focuses on darker hair or help me formulate my own. My question: On occasion, my hairdresser has said he uses Expresso and a small amount of Onyx. I haven't build up courage to ask what exactly would I need if I decided to do it myself at home. How much Expresso to onyx and adding shine? I also don't like my hair to look blue when the light shines on it. I'm just trying to figure all this out and would love, love your help. Thanks!
Thank you Daniella for the info, very helpful. Love the product as my hair is 100% gray and the shades eq leaves my hair so shiny and soft. However, I can't seem to figure out right color or colors to use. My hair is completely silver. I used the Amethyst Quartz color but my hair came out really dark because I really don't know what I'm doing as I've always gone to a professional but lately all they want to do is permanent color and cover up my grays. I went gray because I got tired of the gray roots showing within a week of coloring. That's why I love the shades eq. The color just washes away so I don't get that unsightly gray root look. Could you please suggest some colors that would enhance the gray or add some blonde to my grays. Nobody really does tutorials for us gray haired folks and it would be so helpful! Thank you!
Daniella Benita can you share some gray formulations to enhance 80% gray with 20% level 4? I want to help my aunt with her 0hair because its a bit flat and slightly frizzy. She does have natural wave curl too. Also can you add ph-bonder to Redken shades? Thank you
Thanks Benita.....your info is a such a blessing ....BTW love the Ghirardelli brunette shade in another video...winter toner series and awesome shade....
On the last part of your video when you have the 09N and the clear do you do half and half equal parts and the equal part of the shades processing solution?
This is a great source of information about this product. Thank you so much. You did a great job. As well, you probably saved a lot of us from screaming at the top of our lungs when we look in the mirror after coloring our hair because we got it wrong with the color.
Thank you for this - you covered so much :) Question: Since I have orange, yellow, and some red tones in my bleached hair - can I mix toners in order to cancel out unwanted tones? i.e. Can 9 gb or 9b with 8 gn cancel out all orange and yellow tones? I'd like to create a beige blonde balancing of cool and warm.
I love the detail you took to explain all the toners. I had been getting my hair bleach and toned at a redken salon for many years and when I went over seas for 9 months I experimented with toners to keep my hair fresh. My hair stylist moved recently and I have been looking for the best redken fillers to dye my hair back to a dark brown, like the 3N you were talking about. Do you have an suggestions or tutorials for this process?
Thanks for the helpful video! I would really love to find a chart or something that shows exactly what each undertone is. Meaning..I have difficulties figuring out the amount of warmth to coolness in each shade, especially the light ones. Is B more pigmented than T? Where does P fall in place? Is it cooler than V?
Heather Taft hey love! I’ll attach a link to redkens color chart. You can look at the top of the chart to see the undertone and first find your level. So whatever level your hair is there’s specific undertones for each level then correct once you figure that out. I’m shooting a video tomorrow all about this so it will be coming out soon!
I absolutely love how you explain the color and overall process. Can you please do tutorial on how to do an eye of the tiger balayage? Or if you can list the shades you would use to achieve that. Thanks 😊
Clear also helps to let you develop the color for more than like 2 min. I use it so I can process 20min. I’ve realized if you leave the toner in for 2 min you basically get 2 washes before it fades, if you let it process 5 min, you get 5 washes, and 20 min as recommended you get like 4-6 weeks depending how often you wash your hair. Crystal clear is perfect for allowing shades EQ to process longer ❤️
So I'm attending Summit Salon Academy in Central Indiana right now. I graduate in December. I have been struggling a bit understanding toners. The educators are all amazing, & so good at their jobs, it's just me always overthinking everything. This video literally just broke through to me.. I believe I understand everything 100% now. The thing is, I understand the entire color wheel. Primary, secondary, & tertiary. I aced all of my tests lol I understand blue neautralizes/cancels orange, & all that stuff, I just wasn't letting myself fully understand I guess. The whole toner deal jus scared me to death. The letters and numbers threw me way off. I understood the levels and stuff, I just looked at it as "Why are there so many to choose from for each level?" Lol so it just really intimidated me. I just want to thank you so much for this video! This is the only solid one I could find where someone actually went through the Shades EQ toners, which is what we use! I'm so happy right now lol I've come this far in school, a level 3 stylist (I'll qualify for level 4 this month), student mentor, etc, & didn't understand completely til just now. I could cry😂 Sub'd&liked♡
Kristen Lea Roland hey girl! Don’t be scurred! Lol toners are basically like a coat of nail polish on the hair. It’s a more translucent form of color and it only lasts 4-6 weeks. “Toners” can be used a lot of different ways. They can be used for root blends, lowlights, all over glosses, color correction. Toners will not damage the hair. And redken shades eq toners are super moisturizing and deposit with processing solution (think of it like 10 volume). All the different numbers are all different shades of the toners. Some are blue, some are violet. They just came out with a full ash line that I’m dying to use. But if you ever have questions write me on instagram! @DaniellaBenita and go out and start playing with shades eq. The more you experiment the more you’ll learn!
Hi Daniella - I'm trying to cover grays - not many. I've been using 08N Mojave and sometimes use 06N Moroccan Sand. I do the mixture as you mentioned .5oz color + .5oz clear + 1oz processing solution. There are still there are some stubborn grays. I didn't want to use the permanent color. What do you recommend?
Skittlesflavor1 hey! If you don’t want to use permanent I always full highlight my clients so that the blonde blends with the greys. Or if you want to use redken gels they are permanent but don’t leave a super harsh line. You’ll have to apply them with 20 volume on the root to cover the greys and leave it on for 30 min to process. They also have the same shades you’re using in gels! Hope this helps ❤️
Thank you Daniella! What if the client doesn't want any highlights and is strictly straight 08N? No blonde. Can I let the 08N/EQShades process longer for the stubborn grays or is there some kind of pre-prep of the hair I can do to make the greys want to take the deposit better? Or will the gels be the only way? I'm definitely going to look into the gels!! You're the best. Thank you for sharing your expertise!
One other question... I'm looking at the gels. The colors say 08NA and 06NA however Cafe Au Lait says 09N (just like the liquid). What does the "A" mean on the gels?
A is ash and you could try to use 20 volume with shades eq but I've never done it. It might open the hair cuticle and accept it more but I can't guarantee what it will do! If it was me I would go with color gels so you know it works but doesn't hurt to experiment!
Awesome video. I love this line and it definitely takes a lot of practice to figure out how to tweak it. I know this video is already really long but I think it would be great for you to do a video that focuses on the darker colors and on the blondes and then maybe on the warm and show real hair swatches before and after so we can see the change it made and how you normally use it. People are definitely obsessed with this line when it comes to level nine blond I think you could end up making a lot of videos just on different concoctions on light blond hair if you show swatches. Thanks
Thanks so much. Gonna colour my hair at home, this helped a lot! Currently have 6/7 virgin hair, badly grown out. Highlights very faded. Was thinking: 20vol + 8n base colour. Then if it pulls warm, which it might, maybe 9nb to get a sandy beige. 🇨🇮
Yay! Love this video! Thank you. So excited for you and your new Beautiful salon. I hope you can video some results using these Shades on your clients. Also a how you style/ beachy wave tutorial.
Sherry Dufrenne they can be put on either. Dry hair absorbs the color more and wet hair absorbs less. So if I don’t want the color to really show I’ll put it on wet but if I really want it to deposit fully I’ll put it on completely dry hair.
I have a question on the color lacquer gels. I’m 100% gray and been using 6NW brandy for over a year now with added gray drops. For some reason my hair is just turning too red. Do I stay with an NW or get something else? I’m a natural brunette but don’t want to go too dark. Can you recommend a good color?
I have a client that is naturally blonde, hazel eyes, super curly fine hair. She is getting a lot of gray in her hair and has had it colored and then highlighted. She does not like any of the cool blondes because she feels like they clash with her skin. Would you rec me using a perm color on root only and then maybe using the O9GB shades through the rest of her hair for shine and pretty warmth? I was thinking an 8N for her roots. She tends to pull brassy so i want to be careful. Your videos are clear in our explaining and super helpful. Thank you !!
Hey Daniella, I gave myself an all over bleach and ended up at a level 9. It’s obviously a tad yellow and my end goal is to be at a 10-11 with cooler ashy tones with my roots darker for regrowth. I want to make it look as natural as possible. Normally I would go to a salon to do something like this, but I really love challenging myself and I find hair colouring so fun. If you got to the end of this comment, what would you recommend I do next? Should I do a second round of lightening with a 10-20 volume and then tone or just tone? Also, what toner combo would you recommend?
Thank you for the video. I have very blonde hair( like level 11)and I am thinking on putting some low lights with the 9n. Should I wet my hair first so it deposits evenly?
Daniella Benita My stylist suggested , to highlight my greys, he use a honey color of shades. Applied all over, on my level 5 brunette, salt and pepper hair. The cost was terribly expensive. I'd like to know if you could suggest what color you think would be best for this and where nan I purchase the products?
Hi Daniela! can you make a video explaining all the letters of the shades eq,please? because I have no idea. I wanted to tone down my balayage ( it was to light for me) it wasn't brassy, so I ended up purchasing from ebay 08na, first tried in a strand of hair and turned violet purple! I don't know why :( .Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.
What permanent color do you use? I am thinking of using Redken color gels. Just want to know if you've used it, and what you're thoughts were on it. Thank you for the very informative video. Teach us more!
I love Redken color gels! They just reformulated and are really good. The grey coverage isn’t 100% so for that I use Redken cover fusion with 20 volume and grey drops!
Thank youuuuu so much fit your videos Daniella!! You are sooo thorough and extremely knowlegeable with HAIR! And thank you for sharing/educating-from your heart. I ekect you for Redken’s spokesperson!! This the first I’ve seen you here. I will definitely be folllowing your videos...
Thank you so much for all that info. I will be using for the first time the 6N for roots and the 9V for my blond highlighted hair, I hear 9V is beautiful for very blond hair. Should I add some of the clear as well or the 9V will be enough?
I’ve been doing hair for 22 years your amazing love your videos thank you , I’m a busy stylist I try And get to classes As much as possible but a struggle sometimes . So thank you @bombshell_salon _brook
Hi Daniella: Thanks for the explanation on this, I used a ash toner once on my hair and it was terrible result, so im thinking of the 9nb or the one above it you mentioned. Your easy to understand thanks. Deb
Hi, my hair is a combo of 8, 9, 10 colors, and I have 90% white/gray roots... I used a 5na for a root melt to cover my gray roots and it made my roots blue!! Previously I tried the 6n on my roots and I found it to be too warm, surprisingly, thats why I dropped it to a 5na. The other challenge I have is that these colors STAIN my pretty platinum highlights and make them light blue, even though I only hitting the roots. When I wash it out it the color grabs the platinum pieces and dulls them. What do you recommend for a root melt that will also cover gray and not stain my highlights? Thank you ❤
Hello! Great vid. DIY here. Recently used Madison Reed to cover roots. It dyed my scalp. (Gone now) then left my bright level golden blonde HL w a bluish grayish hue:(( I have many shades eq now. 6nb, 6n 8n, clear, 9GI ,8A, 9n. Should I lightly bleach the existing highlights first then tone what I want or just tone. The level 6 root faded. So was planning on doing a 6n/6nb to cover gray equal Parts. How do I tackle The mids/ ends w what I have?? I’m pretty good now at foiling:) no hot roots and go to pale yellow:) I’m a natural level 6 but process warm w every product ever used, even at great salons- desired tones are root tap w butter or golden blonde
Hi! First of all, thanks so much for doing these videos, they actually helped me a lot understanding the whole letters and numbers thing on the redken shades. I recently moved and I'm not able to see my usual hairdresser anymore and also none of the hairdressers around here are using the Redken toners. BUT she once wrote down the formula of Redken Shades EQ she used on my hair. Now I'm wondering if I would be able to recreate the color at home? It is four different shades of the Shades EQ toners, so would I for example just take 1oz of each toner and then mix it with 4 oz of the processing solution?
Brooke Davey thank you love!!! I always mix a natural with a copper base so if you are a level 6 I’ll use 6N + 7C equal parts all over. But definitely depends on the level of your hair. ❤️
Omg thank you thank you so much for sharing all that information I always get confuse when i see letters like GG I’m not sure is they mean green gold, green green, or what the heal is like how you can tell, but I had a good idea with your explanation 😃👍🏾👏🏼👏🏼
I recently did a baylage ( stylist used a mocha color)with caramel looking highlights, but with the coronavirus and not being able to go to a salon i need to cover my roots( got lots of greys coming) and have no ideia of what color to use and how . The color that the stylist used that i remember looking at was a 6RB but i heard her saying to a co-worker that she used a mocha as well. So i had a mix of burgundy and mocha together for base and caramel for the high and low lights.
There aren’t enough colorists who are willing to share basic formula information with students or just-getting-started-stylists. You’re a great teacher! Thank you for sharing.
Thank you! I can't wait to teach more!

i learn lot about toner. thank you very much for your teaching

I know right, same here,, many blessings to you for doing this for us..
Daniella Benita
Hello Im 33 years old and have high allergy toward colors and a lot of grey hairs.
Please i need your help with the best color to use
your videos are awesome!! thank you
I want to now more about to tone ash hilts please what formula do I have to mix thank you Daniella
Hey! I really love 9NA for ash highlights. Its just enough of a cool ash tone but not green. If you want even more of a punch add a small amount of 9t
@@DaniellaBenita thank you so much my dear
Thank GOD you've made this video. Seriously soooo helpful. Forever thankful!
You’re welcome!
Thanks
I was thinking the exact same thing! I’ll add it to my video list!
So I’m thinking of switching to redken from Paul Mitchell. Do the shades cover grey as well?
Cat Briones hey! They don’t but you could use Redkens color gels or Redken cover fusion to cover grey!
Very much appreciated. Thanks for sharing. Very helpful.
Yay! Love this video! Thank you. So excited for you and your new Beautiful salon.
I hope you can video some results using these Shades on your clients. Also a how you style/ beachy wave tutorial.
Thank you! I’m shooting a new tutorial every Monday so my next tutorial will be a beach wave style tutorial for you 😘😘😘
Daniella Benita oh thank you
Daniella Benita do these toners need to be put on dry or wet hair?
Sherry Dufrenne they can be put on either. Dry hair absorbs the color more and wet hair absorbs less. So if I don’t want the color to really show I’ll put it on wet but if I really want it to deposit fully I’ll put it on completely dry hair.
Daniella Benita ❤️🤗Thank you so much!!!
Thank you for the explaining ♥️
Welcome!
Thank you so much! That was so helpful! ☺
Jennifer Rudd welcome! ❤️❤️❤️
Hey Daniella,
I gave myself an all over bleach and ended up at a level 9.
Hey! I would use it on dry hair so it deposits evenly.
Your eye color is amazing 🤩
Awe thank you!!
Thank you sooooo much for these videos
makeupbymissamerica you’re welcome! 😘😘😘
I learn so much from your video. Its always refreshing to watch it.
Thank you love!
Yay! Thank you! Helped ALOT :D
You're welcome!
Love this video, im new with the EQ shades and im loving them. Your video is so informative and entertaining
Thanks girl!
The best! Shades EQ 🙌.
Ty, 🙏👼💕🌹⭐
What permanent color do you use? I am thinking of using Redken color gels. Just want to know if you've used it, and what you're thoughts were on it. Thank you for the very informative video. Teach us more!
I love Redken color gels! They just reformulated and are really good. The grey coverage isn’t 100% so for that I use Redken cover fusion with 20 volume and grey drops!
@@DaniellaBenita Please do a video on root touch up with Redken Fusion. Much thanks
Teri Vo thank you so much Teri! ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much for all that info. I will be using for the first time the 6N for roots and the 9V for my blond highlighted hair, I hear 9V is beautiful for very blond hair. Should I add some of the clear as well or the 9V will be enough?
Virginia Garcia 9v is absolutely beautiful but only add clear if you don’t want it to deposit as much. So if you are really light blonde use clear!
This was soooo informative!!! I LOVED this! 💖💖💖
This was so informative!! Thank you so much 🙌🏼👏🏻
Alex Kerckhove you’re so welcome! My new salon is almost ready and I’ll be making a lot more videos about redken shades ❤️
Please do a tutorial about refreshing natural red hair. What shades do you mix to avoid going too brown or fake primary red?
I’ve been doing hair for 22 years your amazing love your videos thank you , I’m a busy stylist I try And get to classes As much as possible but a struggle sometimes . So thank you @bombshell_salon _brook
Hi Daniella: Thanks for the explanation on this, I used a ash toner once on my hair and it was terrible result, so im thinking of the 9nb or the one above it you mentioned. Your easy to understand thanks. Deb
Such an amazing video ! It heped me a lot to choose a suitable shade for my hair ! thx alot ❤️
THANK YOU FOR SHARING REDKEN INFORMATION
Thank you ❤
Thank you for your videos! Love them, very helpful
Hi Daniella, thanks for the video. I have a question so for the blackest color do I have to mix it with 1 0z of the processing solution? Thanks 😊
Hello! Great vid. So was planning on doing a 6n/6nb to cover gray equal
Parts. How do I tackle
The mids/ ends w what I have?? I’m pretty good now at foiling:) no hot roots and go to pale yellow:) I’m a natural level 6 but process warm w every product ever used, even at great salons- desired tones are root tap w butter or golden blonde
Thank you for speaking clearly and for all the info!🙏
You make this so much easier Daniella! ❤What are your favourite natural ginger/redhead formulas?
Brooke Davey thank you love!!! I always mix a natural with a copper base so if you are a level 6 I’ll use 6N + 7C equal parts all over. But definitely depends on the level of your hair. ❤️
You are so good. Great tutorial. Thank you!
You are so welcome!
Loveeee! You made everything so easy! Thank you!
Thank you! Waiting for updates NA series and VB!
I've been experimenting with both. Can't wait to make that video for you all!
Great video, packed with expert knowledge! Thank you
Omg thank you thank you so much for sharing all that information I always get confuse when i see letters like GG I’m not sure is they mean green gold, green green, or what the heal is like how you can tell, but I had a good idea with your explanation 😃👍🏾👏🏼👏🏼
You're welcome!
Excellent job
I recently did a baylage ( stylist used a mocha color)with caramel looking highlights, but with the coronavirus and not being able to go to a salon i need to cover my roots( got lots of greys coming) and have no ideia of what color to use and how . The color that the stylist used that i remember looking at was a 6RB but i heard her saying to a co-worker that she used a mocha as well. So i had a mix of burgundy and mocha together for base and caramel for the high and low lights.
