So pretty much if you’re on the east coast of the North island as soon as you feel heavy shaking, leave, as a tsunami will be along very very quickly
yeah pretty much. if you're near ANY coastline and you feel strong or lengthy shaking, hit the bricks
Yes but dont shit bricks because that will slow you down
Really interesting and great narration. Thanks GNS!
Really very well explained. Thank you.
Good info. Thanks.
Wow, scary but incredible
TODAY IS REALITY
This isn’t the same
Dream on buddy
Yep
Great advise.
Loving the presenter she’s soooo good
Please add an overlay showing the actual rupture zone as the fault unzips.
Great video... but the narrator sounds way too enthusiastic about the damage. .. especially the tsunami rushing back in.
I liked the other GNS videos where it's just a scientist explaining things matter-of-factly. This narrator sounds like she is addressing an audience of children.
It's a matter of not if, but when.
Came here for more understanding after hearing the news this morning of a tsunami in Gisborne
05/03/2021
Me in auckland after a 7.1 magnitude earthquake in the same spot as where it started on this thing
Hope that you are doing ok. It must be so worrying. NZ is so.... physical and active 🤷🏻♂️👍🏻😷
This started near the bottom of the north island, the one yesterday was 1000km away from the top
Watch for more as there have been deep quakes and serious aftershocks from the 8.1M on 5.3.21
Looking forward to it.
...
Sigh..
You have a go living in the hawkes bay coast then
@@wowwwwcrazy no thanks I'm not retarded.
I think it’s clear if this event happened most of NZs East Coast would at first self-evacuate......then head for the hills!
Good to take note especially being aware now As there’s been quite a regular increase of earth tremors of 3+mag along this coastline
Regular tremors are good as its gradual release of pressure. What we don’t want is for it all to go quiet. We had a few last week which just oiled the works.
8.9 mag. this figure scares the hiiby jeebies outa me and i live on the other side of earth. 25% in 50 years is just fucking insane at this point just abbandon the island
Thanks i guess it keeps us on our toes .
The tsunami would probably exceed 30 meters in some places. What this simulation doesn’t add in is underwater landslides and pop up faulting that will likely occur.
Now I feel more comfortable
Some serious enthusiasm discussing this, 😂😂
its a sad truth that when it does happen there will only be some 10-15mins for any wave to hit the coast, and what size this will be could be similar to Japan
could be 2m could be 20m but still real, its not if but when, the risk will start at anything above 6.5 and less than 10km depth, the deeper the safer
I live in hawksbay that’s scary
She'll be awright.
So pretty… great start to the vid…
People have never learned the lesson of the japan and the thailand indonesia sri lanka tsunamis and still ignorant of what the danger of this natural disasters, locals and tourists and all the travelers around the world must be educated about this phenomenae...from grade schools to colleges tsunami information must be included in our mudules of learning...
yeah when the tide disappears the best thing to do is stand on the beach while taking a self with the mysterious wall in the distance XD
Australian plate pushing down the Pacific plate, typical 😒
I really wish Kiwis would understand that in large earthquakes they are on their own to assess their risks..Long - a minute or more..Strong- having difficulty in standing..Get gone!
That's quite scary I am a wimp when it comes 2 earth quakes I even freak out on little 1s
Be stronger ❤😊
Why don’t they put some rebar and cement into the fault?
Or old mattresses
If that happen we are all fuked. Taupo would go off we might find the pink and white terraces lol
nice Maori pronounciation
It’s… it’s not a 9.0?
Cute
We are but visitors passing thru.
Wow, good luck everyone, I have left NZ for good, I hope this doesn't happen anytime soon!
Scardy cat?😂 Lol
Earthquakes happen everywhere around the entire world, it's life like anything else
As long as they are small and less destructive , and big ones only happen when the Earth is really pissed off 🤣
NO MATTER WHERE UR THERE ARE WAR, EARTHQUAKE, STORMS, TORNADOES. THERE IS NO WHERE TO HIDE.
@@carolleota8922 yep even broken caps lock keys on keyboards.
Magnitude 8.9 Quake Tsunami
It’s to bad that it’s happened this year in 2021
This started near the bottom of the north island, the one yesterday was 1000km away from the top
I'm glad the Government is putting money into Earthquakes past and what can happen today, because we just need to look at Bali and Japan and what happened to those Countries.😢
Lol f@ck that, I'm hopping on a plane😂
You're going to move now out of NZ to another country? Or do you have a private plane that you can "hop on" and be airborne within 15 minutes after a major quake? A plane isn't a taxi you can hail.
@@DonnaBrooks stfu. It was a joke, I know with covid I cant go anywhere
It's today!!!
This started near the bottom of the north island, the one yesterday was 1000km away from the top
That was Sunday Island, not the Hikurangi zone
Why hasn't anyone between BC and northern California made one of these videos yet? They're overdue for a rupture in the Cascadia subduction zone, and that one could be over M9.
There are many videos on TH-cam that discuss this topic, here's one:
th-cam.com/video/76b_WGzCI54/w-d-xo.html
There are tons of such videos.
Not quite 8.9, but it was an 8.1 and that isn't very far off.
It is actually different segment. M8.9 earthquake is still possible in those area
@@oskha1815 Very interesting then, still possible.
It was 90KM deep...had it been 9KM NZ would have been in serious trouble~!
One model is not good enough!! Need to have multiple scenario's to better evaluate the worst effects
I hope this don't happen in my life time
Terrible scenario, brilliant presenter.
Paikea Apirana from Whale Rider.
It’s hard to imagine how Auckland would be affected much as the Tsunami would have to wrap right around the Coromandel peninsula and head back in the direction it came from.
maybe, might be, possibly, could be. big earthquake in the kermadecks everyone run for high ground because a 20mm wave might come. great way to earn a living.
I guess we should all just bury our heads in the sand and not learn anything. Nobody can predict quakes, that's no reason not to simulate quakes and learn from it.
I follow Dutchsince for current earthquake activity
Do you wear a tinfoil hat to?
Of course for 5g lol
Better than government monitors
@Martin Turner Hmmm... Its more starting to re awaken, that passive was past history, were going into active age again. This will dhake the whole world.
F!
"Rup-cha"
Watch for solar flare
The higher the magnitude the higher the Pucker Factor! ... make sure you have clean undies your going to need them! 👍🇳🇿
Who ever thought as an Indonesian living in Java this information hit right at home. We also are prone to Megathrust event such as shown in the video.
Thx for sharing 😊
what about the depth of which the plate slips downwards into the ocean, how does that effect the outcome of damage and tusnami? and can you do an overlay of where the tusnami waters reach inland of townships? if the japan tusnami is anything to go by , nowhere to run nowhere to hide
❤💙💖💕💓💜💛💚💝💞
It will never happen
wake up its coming sooner than you think
Famous last words!?!
Ever heard of a fault line?
Of course it will happen. When is the question.
Well you were very wrong lol
