    i usally just use a 1 inch thick nap roller and roll a section and then have my partner go over what I did with a 4 inch stain brush...works more quickly and u don't worry bout overspray from a sprayer....in Kansas every day is to windy for sprayers...we just do it the ole fashion way.........roll and then back brush...takes a bit longer and more muscle labor...........but I rarly use sprayers.top much wind here in Kansas.thanks for your vid tho......keep up yer good work......

    What sleeve are you using? I have been painting 18 years now and enjoy watching your videos. I have added a few of your technics to my paint bucket and like to see some of our daily tasks from a different perspective. Keep up the good work

    Hey buddy sorry I'm old school "Indian sprayer" is a pump sprayer generally used for deweeding gardens. Sorry bout the misunderstanding.... But you can buy them and toss em when you're done they pay for themselves. And theirs no machine holding you to a certain area.... You just pump and go..... They're awesome fur poly as well...... Once again sorry about my lingo im from NY lol

    How long does it take before the stain fades? Do you think it is a good idea to stain cedar roof shakes?

    Hey bro,
    Love your videos. I've been painting for 22 years. I took over my father's business about 8 years ago. I think what your doing is awesome, it's nice to visually see what "just a painter" does. I get a little hot around the collar when people claim they can paint..... Not everyone was created equal lol... But I had a question. Have you ever tried using an Indian sprayer? I use them to stain and it's so much less of a hassle as far as no hose, running the machine around the other side of the house lol we know what that's like...... "John I need two more foot of hose...... Can't do it boss" down the ladder back around the other side of the house lmao. Anyway I gotta go be "just a painter" please keep posting your videos I believe their are people still out there that honestly love, respect, and enjoy this craftsmanship. Peace nelson myers painting too

    Hi - thanks for the video. We had a painter put the same product on our cedar siding. It looked great. On the new siding (reno) - on about 1/4 of our home they did the same and there are several drip and what looks like an oil based nail filler that the stain didn't penetrate. Any suggestions to how to deal with this sloppy 1/4 of our home? Drips that were never taken care of and the oily nature to the nail holes - very disappointed with things with the 1/4 section. But the rest looks great.

      Okay thanks. Will give it a go. The nail hole filler is very sloppy - would the lacquer thinner help remove its and the greasy smudge marks it seems to have left

    Thanks for your videos. Would you use woodscapes semi-transparent on T1-11 siding for a shed? I want to keep the wood grain look and protect the wood. Why is Woodscapes better than Cabot or Sikkens, or any other brand?

      My 8x12 shed is built with T1-11 and stained with Superdeck semi-transparent stain, Valley color. That was 8 years ago and it still looks great, but it's surrounded by trees and doesn't get a lot of direct sunlight. I'll be restaining it this year just for maintenance purposes.

    Why not use a thick roller and backroll sideways? Hardly any brushing at all. Works especially good on big sections to make it look flawless so no rushing it.Just stop your sections every ten boards at a crack between the boardsand spray and backroll the full length depending how the boards are hung.

    Chris - I have a English Tudor home with a ton of cedar trim. Is it better to paint the trim or stain it with a solid stain?

  • @estebanmayorga3169
    @estebanmayorga3169 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Do you use the same amount as paint or it takes more stain than pain to do an exterior.

    • @Idahopainter
      @Idahopainter  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Usually you use about 20% more stain

    You can't "back brush" it first. You can brush it first but back brushing is brushing after paint or stain is sprayed on.
