    Great video! That is neat that they have the same train cars so you can still see the landscape.

    During the summer a red bus called BERNINA EXPRESS like the train connects Lugano with Tirano and vice versa. It is accessible with Eurail, Interrail, Swiss Travel Pass and similar passes.

    Wow. Definitely some breathtaking views there. We are looking at doing this trip in May. Can't wait. We are actually thinking of the cheaper seats too as to be able to open the window while filming. Thanks for sharing your ride with us. Really enjoyed watching 😀😃

    • @zachandrachel
      @zachandrachel  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It's a hard choice since the panoramic windows are really nice to look out of. If filming is important, the cheaper seats would be the way to go. It was difficult to get pictures and video without a glare.
      Hope you get to take the Bernina Express this spring. I'm sure it would be gorgeous!

    I am very confused trying to buy the tickets. Did you buy them in advance? Or can I just buy them at the station in Tirano.

    • @zachandrachel
      @zachandrachel  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, we bought our tickets in advance using an app called SBB Mobile (Swiss Rail).
      At the last minute, we decided to upgrade our tickets to the panoramic carriage, We were able to pay the attendant for the upgrade. I think you might be able to book the panoramic carriage in advance, but I'm not sure.

      Excited for you all! I am not sure if the panoramic cars are first class. We upgraded to that coach on the train.I would recommend booking ahead of time though. I think you can book them here: tickets.rhb.ch/en/pages/bernina-express

    • @Luigi-uj5ml
      @Luigi-uj5ml 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The 1st class compartments are recognizable by looking at the yellow band located on the outside of the carriage, right above the relevant windows. The same goes for the electric train called Allegra (a form of greeting in the Rhaeto-Romanic language) which for some years has replaced the electric locomotive or the electric railcar. Even if it pulls the train called BERNINA EXPRESS, the seats of the electric train called Allegra do not require reservations.

    • @zachandrachel
      @zachandrachel  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi, Thanks for reaching out. I think I was discussing the merits of the panoramic carriages vs the regular ones. We upgraded to the panoramic carriages, which was really cool, but we weren't able to open the windows. The people with the cheaper seats were able to open their windows, which is really nice for photography.

    Thank you for your great video. We are flying into Venice, Italy arriving September 3, 2023 with plans to ride the train from Venice to Zurich, departing Zurich at 13:20 on September 8, 2023. My intention is to ride the Bernina Express with overnights along the way. Do you have any suggestions as to the most economical overnights (Hotel) and booking methods for the train and hotels. Thank you, again.

    • @zachandrachel
      @zachandrachel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow! That sounds like an amazing trip. We booked the train via the SBB mobile app. In terms of saving money, sleeping and eating outside of Switzerland is helpful. We have found that staying in Italy and Austria (Austria would be out of the way for you I think) to be far more economical. When we have stayed in Switzerland, we stayed primarily in hostels because it was so expensive. Sometimes you can catch deals on Hotwire, and comparing hotel prices on Google tends to work pretty well. We have recently been using Agoda to book hotels and have gotten some good deals, but I am not sure if that site is as helpful in the European Alps.
      If you can, Lucerne is a beautiful city and well worth the stop.

      We upgraded when we arrived at the train station to get the panoramic seats.
      We were unable to book those in advance though. I’m not sure how to do it. I’m sorry. If I see a way, I will let you know.
      I think first class would probably get you the panoramic seats but I’m not 100% sure.

    Somewhat jarring to a near-local how you both pronounce *Tirano* making it sound so much like a North American rendition of *Toronto* - with the characteristic _t glottalisation_ (t dropping if not at the beginning of a word).
    Next time: Clearly enunciate the first syllable to form the sound of the hot beverage *tea* - then the remaining syllables *rano* should follow effortlessly.
    That would then sound familiar and _like/a/ music/a/_ to an italianate ear!
    Thanks for an atmospheric view of my neck of the woods.
