During the summer it is possible to continue from the railway station called Tirano RhB (although it is in Italy it is considered Swiss territory) towards Lugano with a red RhB bus waiting for the Bernina Express. It is included in the Swiss Travel Pass, Eurailpass, InterRail pass and similar. Only the seat reservation is extra.
Wonderfull video! I have travelled this line several times, and I just can't get enough of it. The swiss trains are the best I have ever been in. The scenery on the tracks are wonderfull, really just one big joy being there. Coming winter I've planned a trip for this wonderful track😊. Thanks for this great video! Greetings from the netherlands
Can’t wait to come to Milan this Christmas and take the rails to make a loop through parts of Switzerland and back to Milan. Thanks for the AUsome video.💥💖🚄
I did this last year (but in reverse Tirano > Chur) and absolutely LOVED it! The scenery was just unbelievable - especially to an Aussie guy like me. Thanks very much for sharing your trip with all of us :)
Nice video of a great train ride and awesome scenery. Just an fyi - the 4ft81/2in (1,435mm) track gauge is called standard gauge everywhere, not just in the US.
Welcome to Switzerland, why food should be included? It is simply expensive and that’s it! :) To maintain this line and operate it, especially to keep the authentic style at high standards is costly. I go by car to the Bernina pass from time to time during summer to go biking there. I love the trains and the whole idea to celebrate beauty and engineering perfection. Taking care of this heritage so profound by the government is always a joy to see.
Your comment about food or beverages not being included the only train in Swiss that offers that is the Glacier Express in Excellence Class which is $400 over 1st class. Your video was nice just too many lower thirds. Have you tried a wind muffler over your mic that may help when the widow was open. Maybe, maybe not it doesn’t detract.
Mate, firstly Switzerland is not “in the EU”. It’s part of the Schengen zone so that’s the reason no immigration/customs appeared at the border. Secondly, my son and I took the same services as you (Chur to St Moritz on a Regional service and then the Bernina Express from Sy Moritz to Tirana about a month ago. This trip was the highlight of our five weeks in the UK/Europe. It’s disappointing that you otherwise pleasant video was inflicted by whinging over the cost and expecting “freebies” to be included. I suggest you try travelling on the LNER service from Edinburgh to Kings Cross London in “1st class”. No “freebies” included there and the seats were the most uncomfortable I’ve ever experienced!!!! Given the outrageous price this “rail company” charged, one should have expected a much better travel experience. You’ll be pleased to know I’m not bothering to follow your other “travel logs”. Grüße aus Australien. Tschüss.
This is the best video I've watched for Bernina Express. Thx a lot for all the needed information I was looking for
The most informative and helpful youtube video I've ever seen! Thank you so much!

24:22 no. Switzerland is not in the EU
Thanks for pointing that out! You are correct it is in the Schengen zone, not the EU.
