He’s a great story teller! I always have an admiration for great story tellers, because I’m terrible! Weaving a whole picture...just using words. That’s why for me complimenting someone as being “well spoken” isn’t dig. Being well spoken is not about race. Same way no one would ever describe Kylie Jenner as well spoken.

You notice in all the old photo's of the former Chefs, he's the only one looking at all the leaders with a great smile of admiration. You can tell for this guy, it was so much more than just a job but a passionate honor to serve them.

Laura Bush was the most beloved first lady that the secret service ever looked after--it has been said that agents fought over who would work in her protection detail--Mrs. Bush was known to knit hats and scarfs for the secret service members who looked after her-and she insisted to her husband that they delay their Christmas vacation until all the secret service members had time to go home and be with their families first

Really? I very much didn't like the Bush administration's policies, but they always seemed like nice people. And, of course, we all witnessed how they became friends with the Obamas. I think a lot of people who see them one dimensionally are perhaps too young to remember well their time in office. In fact, along with Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton, the Bush first ladies make up the list of autobiographies I actually enjoyed.

They were humanized when Trump came into power. During Bush’s presidency, they were dehumanized horribly by the press.
I like the Bush’s, but make no mistake, this newfound “respect” by the left is only an attempt to further demonize Trump. The left doesn’t care about the Bush’s.

My mom's specialty was fresh coconut cake, and it was always expected at Christmas. In the 50s as a young boy, my job was to "milk" the coconut, and then breakout the "nut" and remove the cover/shell and then grind it into flakes. It was the coconut milk as well as the freshness of the coconut that made it so special, but her 7 minute frosting (similar to spreadable marshmallow) was to die for!
    It all ended in 1998!
    Thanks mom!

Coconut cake is a tradition in the South and, while this one is different than i grew up with, I would surely like to try Mrs Weiss' version. It would go with my other favorites, Mama Rosie's many layered chocolate cake (approx a dozen thin yellow cake layers cooked in cast iron skillets with boiled chocolate frosting) and Mrs. Ruby's caramel cake.

Coconut is my kryptonite sadly, but man do the cakes look delicious. Mrs. Bush was quite lucky to enjoy it.

Great content, I like these videos cuz it shows the presidents as real people just like the rest of us. Food and especially dessert can bring us all a little bit closer .

Microwave the butter, not to melt it but to make it soft. Proceeds to melt the butter lol

Oh my... loved this video for the cake and some history. Not much coconut to be called that. Why just the top? I would’ve added some flakes in between the layers and possibly the sides depending how sweet it is.

Argh! I need to get myself a Kitchen Aid machine (from any brand) to make my baking easier! At the moment I only have a hand mixer so very limited with what I can bake because of the limits of a regular hand mixer... This cake would also definitely be on my baking list once I have the proper kitchen machine for it, there’s just no chance I could stand and use a hand mixer for over 10 minutes (I’m disabled) but I really do love baking both because the result is delicious and baking is very therapeutic when feeling sad or stressed or just wanting to do something else than being by the computer.

      I've frequently stumbled upon
them for next to nothing at estate sales if that helps :)

Definitely get a Kitchen Aid. I've used one for the past 50 years and wouldn't trade it and all my attachments for anything else!

They're overrated. I have a KitchenAid, but I use it only about once a year. I use my cheap hand mixer about 99% of the time. It's easier to clean.

I always do the same thing when making chocolate chip cookies. Butter, white sugar, and brown sugar beating until they are smooth and look like caramel. I never have flat cookies when doing this.

I couldn’t help but notice that the butter/sugar mixture had to be beaten for a full 10 minutes to incorporate lots of air into it. That’s also the secret to making butter frosting. FYI.

Would you (oh DEAR LORD please) have a recipe for pineapple cream pie with meringue? My Mom years and years ago when I was very young. I have looked and looked for her recipe or a recipe for this pie. I have searched through cookbook after cookbook. 🤷.
