RULES:
All the regular rules for monopoly still apply except for these changes. Check out this video for any clarification. During Setup, give each player a reference card and 2 sore loser tokens. Place the rest of the tokens in the middle of the board. Place mr monopoly on the board. Each player rolls both dice and the player with the lowest total goes first, then play proceeds clockwise.
Any time you pay rent to another player, taxes and bills to the bank, go to jail, or land on your own property, you collect 1 sore loser token from the center of the board. If you land on free parking, then you steal a sore loser token from any other player. Community chest and chance cards can also give you sore loser tokens. You may not have more than 4 sore loser tokens at a time; if you would collect a 5th, put it in the center of the board instead. Whenever you have 4 sore loser tokens, you may, at the start of any of your turns, before you roll, trade them in to become Mr monopoly.
Take the mr monopoly token from the middle of the board and replace your token with that one. While you are mr monopoly, instead of paying players rent and the bank taxes and bills, you collect it from them instead. Instead of going to jail, you send any other player to jail. If you roll doubles 3 times in a roll, don’t go to jail, continue your turn and roll again. If you are in jail when you become mr monopoly then you are released from jail. Whenever any player rolls doubles, including you, place 1 free house on any street on the board. That street does not need to be owned by you nor does it need to be in a complete set. IF you place a house on an unowned street then whoever buys that property still pays its list price on the board but gets the house for free. You may not place a 5th house on a street nor a hotel. All houses and hotels on the board may not be removed or sold. If you trade or sell a property that has a building on it to another player, the buildings goes to the new owner. When you are down to the last house that people want to buy you auction it off, starting at $10 and increasing in increments as little as $1.
Also, while you are mr monopoly, whenever you land on the same space as another player, this includes the just visiting space while another player is in jail, cover their token with mr monopoly and steal 1 property from them. You may not steal a property that is part of a complete set. As long as your piece covers their piece, that player’s turn is skipped; however all players under mr monopoly may still take part in auctions, collect rent, and buy houses and hotels; but they may not trade-in sore loser tokens. When Mr monopoly lands on the same space as you, collect 1 sore loser token. If you become mr monopoly while on the same space as another player; they are not trapped and you may not steal a property.
While you are mr monopoly, you are not allowed to collect sore loser tokens. If another player cashes in 4 sore loser tokens while you are mr monopoly, then they take mr monopoly from you and your original token returns to your current space, and they put their token in the middle of the board. You are allowed to trade and sell your sore loser tokens to other players.
If you trade a mortgaged property then the new owner of that property must immediately repay the mortgage by paying the bank the unmortgaged cost; or they may keep the mortgage and only pay the bank 10% of the mortgage value. If you go bankrupt any sore loser tokens you have are returned to the center of the board instead of given to the creditor.
The game ends when all the properties have been purchased and all the players have made it back to go. When you reach Go, stop even if you have moves left, and collect $200. If you are mr monopoly at the end, you do not steal a property when you land on go. Once everyone has arrived at Go, then each player collects rent from all their properties at their current rent level, whether that be with buildings or double rent value. As a side note, this version still has the "if you land on a property and the owner doesn't ask for rent, you don't have to pay it" rule. It's actually important to house rule this away and make rent collection mandatory; this is because otherwise people will tactically not ask for rent in order to avoid giving other players sore loser tokens, which quickly becomes a silly mess.
Not really. It could be a strategic tradeoff for denying someone sore loser tokens by tacit omitting to ask for rents, since paying rents is not the only way of gaining sore loser tokens.
In practice people basically never ask for rent unless it's overwhelmingly back-breaking, so it hugely shifts the way the game plays by having way less sore loser tokens in play. Add in Mr. Monopoly not asking for rent when he lands on someone else's space and it's just...I dunno. We found it better this way; maybe others would prefer to minimize the sore loser token element by permitting this.
How regularly used is that houserule?

My favorite part of this version is how the playing pieces are defeated versions of their standard counterparts. The battleships is sinking, the car has a boot, the dog and cat are wiped out, etc

At first, I thought Hasbro had forgotten the joke, actual business monopoly's being lampooned on purpose by monopoly's gameplay...but then I looked closer at some of these newer versions, and it's very clear Hasbro remembers the joke and is rolling with it into the modern era.

i noticed that all the player pieces are damaged versions of the original ones. like the ship is sinking, and the car is missing a wheel. seems like a nice touch.
This is surprisingly cheap (the equivalent of $17 with free shipping), so I just bought it immediately. Seems pretty fun and a nice way to mix up the ordinary Monopoly.

Alternative: Sore loser tokens are no longer in play, but the highest rolling player is permanently Mr Monopoly. All other players' cash is totalled at the end of the game into a team score

It depends. Mega is a more extreme version of the regular Monopoly. This one seems like putting an overpowered character on the board and watching the sparks fly.

this is one of the most unfair fair games i ever seen, being mr monopoly is way too overpowered, but it's so easy to become mr monopoly that you may not even get to have a turn with mr monopoly because the next player might just trade in sore loser tokens and steal it from you

This has been the ONLY game of Monopoly my family will play or even remotely like lmfao. They cant stand monopoly because it takes too long and it bores them, but with this it feels more fast paced and with the game ending relatively quickly with buying all properties, they can actually have fun.
This is too complicated. Just flip the table the board is on and declare victory!

This seems to be a trend in some of the more recent Monopoly variations where the game ends shortly after all the properties are owned and I really don't like it. It turns the game into something more like the Game of Life than an actual competition where your goal is to defeat your opponents. Does anyone know why some variations do this?
Shortening, OG monopoly where you win by being the last to go bankrupt is universally agreed as too long, and so this gives the game a predictable length.

@@ianlucas6635 While true I always found that to be false. Granted Speed die help; I've ended a classic Monopoly game with 5 people in 1 hour. Though via speed die I won a game between 4 people several hours ago in just 25 minutes Mega edition.

To whom should you collect the rent at the end of the game? To the bank or the player?
A variant of this game that I came up with:
You must pay rent, regardless if the owner asks or not, when you land on an opponent's property.
If you are Mr. Monopoly and you'd have to go to jail for any reason, send another player to jail instead.
You may place a hotel if there are 4 houses.
All buildings may be sold back to the bank for quarter value.
You may steal a property that is part of a complete color set.
If you are covered by Mr. Monopoly, then the max sore loser tokens you have is increased to 8.
While covered by Mr. Monopoly, you may trade in 8 sore loser tokens to become Mr. Monopoly.
If you have 5 or more sore loser tokens when untrapped by Mr. Monopoly, you lose 1 of those tokens each turn until you get to 4 sore loser tokens.
If you become Mr. Monopoly while another player shares your space, then you trap any players on that space. This includes when you become Mr. Monopoly while trapped by Mr. Monopoly.
If you are Mr. Monopoly on the final trip to GO and you trap players, then you do steal properties.
For the pay rent part, if the player who lands on an opponent's property is Mr. Monopoly, does the owner pay rent to Mr. Monopoly OR will Mr. Monopoly have to pay rent to the owner?

Everyone starts with no Sore Loser Tokens.
If a player is trapped by Mr. Monopoly when it's the 3rd turn in jail, unless they transform into Mr. Monopoly, they must pay the $50 Bail(selling properties, houses and Hotels is a must if that player has less than $50 at the moment), leave jail, and end their turn. They cannot use their Get Out Of Jail Free Card even if they have one.
The player who is Mr. Monopoly can only put houses(Or Hotels if they have 4 Houses and that player wants to do so) on the properties he/she owns when anyone rolls doubles.
The maximum amount of rolls of dice in 1 turn as Mr. Monopoly is 5. If, for some reason, you roll 5 Doubles(which is very unlikely), you can still perform your actions based on the 5th Dice Roll, but your turn ends here after that. No need to go to jail or send anyone to jail if that happens!
You can steal properties on a complete set ONLY if they are the available properties left.

That’s only good for 2V2 Games. But sometimes I play it.
Ita already improved by changeing the end rule cus having to take out all other players to end the game is a dumb rule. this oh its just over when all the propertys are brought is soo much better.
