Under these circumstances he can be. $80 million in dead cap is historic. Broncos shouldn't have cut him. He had a 98 QB rating on a team with poor receivers/TE/running game.
Now that same QB with 98 QB rating can be had for league minimum. That's insane value
This statement contradicts itself to an extent- in this particular case, Russell Wilson is a valuable free agent, BECAUSE he was the worst financial decision in (I would say franchise) history. Denver goofed and has the foot the bill, so he’s valuable because he won’t take up that salary.
The risk is low for CAPs wise. But as a Steelers fan, I rather they commit to Pickett and establish an identity in their Offense

Cause it’s Cousins for $45mil or Russ for $1.5mil. The new team pays the veterans league minimum and the Broncos pay the rest.
So you can sign Russ, pick up a monster like Chris Jones pay him $23mil and pick up Mike Onwenu. And still have some money left over for a positional needs. Or pay Cousins.
Onwenu played every position on the Patriots OL, and played amazing. We instantly have the best OL in the NFL, with Russ who can move in the pocket.
Completely upgrade our DL, this move allows us to move on from Danielle, but we can also still sign him if we want, from the money we saved by moving on from Cousins.
I love Kirk, I like him more than 95% of Vikings fans. But whatever team takes advantage of this Russell Wilson contract situation, will absolutely upgrade their team with the money they save with his contract situation.

@@jaysonsmith7264 Hard disagree. Russ had more passing yards and TDs than Fields last year, as well as better QBR and fewer INTs. Fields hasn't shown himself to be a good QB so far. And there's every reason to think Russ had a down year because of the discord with is coaches and was still better. Plus, the amount the Steelers would have to give up for Fields makes the rest of the team worse

Wilson to Pittsburgh does make a ton of sense to me. Playoffs instantly. You insert Wilson on the Steelers and that is a huge problem for any opponent. Steelers were winning with basically backup QBs because their defense was good.

As a Vikings fan, this conversation made it entirely believable to me that Russell Wilson could end up in Minnesota, which scares me. I live in the Denver area, but I’m a loyal Vikings fan since birth (North Dakota). Russell Wilson is a complication that may be worse than the discount. However, to be fair, much of what messed everything up in Denver had to do with the worst trade/contract in NFL history - aside from maybe Deshaun Watson with the Browns. Some throw Herschel Walker in there (ironically, with the Vikings), but Russell Wilson’s contract was worse because of the cap hit. Deshaun may be worse than both, but they’re all steamy hot piles. Also, Herschel can do 300 push-ups and fight MMA, so he gets a pass unlike the other two goofballs. I’d like to thank my college UWRP teacher, my dog, my niece’s boyfriend, all of you guys, the TH-cam community, my local electric company, and Apple for helping me write this post.

I’d say wait for the stipulations on the contract, the amount isn’t going to fool anyone but the injury stuff on the contract will. Guy’s played healthy for a long time so he is covering his ass if the next o-line he gets is awful at protecting him.
