Federal HST ammo was the first ammo that I discovered to be very reliable while watching gel tests on YT over the years. I still use other brands, for different calibers (like Barnes), but Federal's HST ammo is a big winner
Great test and results. Very impressive velocities. I have seen 1225ish out of a 4.25" barrel with +p and 1200ish out of the standard pressure. The +p is in most all of my family's 9s(those that carry 9) although I do have a 5" back up/bug out set up with 5 mags of 147 standard pressure HST because I had a few hundred of those. Well done. Huge help to the self defense community.
hst is what i carry in my 357 sig,, the more i watch your channel the more i wish that I would have gotten hst for my 40S&W and 9mm,, keep it up.. love this channel
While there is not a huge difference in expansion, the wound track is bigger the faster it goes and the expansion is doing what it was designed to do by slamming on the breaks. This also shows that the faster it's going, the harder it hits and the faster it dumps the energy. I'm actually pretty impressed that there was only about a 2" difference in penetration between the different guns and this speaks to the reliability and consistency of the bullet. I've long been a fan of HST ammo and this is further proof of it's reliability.
. I had seen that for some rounds, after a 10 inch barrel, the gain is minimal (ballistics by the inch). 9 mil wakes up good with the 5 plus inches. Cool to see, Gelblock G.
@@jamessotherden5909 it did. They definitely expanded more from the higher speed, but it was more the odd legs that stuck off that was more noticeable than just overall width
That is the round I’ve carried for years now. I like the velocity from the +p from the 3.5” barrel I carry. Even better when I carry a 4”. Might be a good ballistic chicken 🐓 test in the future? I’m just looking for an excuse for a ballistic chicken video 😂. Awesome video as always good sir 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
I’d bet the 16” barrel is actually dragging a bit. Probably get a good increase up to about 10” of barrel with the small charge of fast burning powder.
I was surprised to see the longer the barrel and the higher velocity got the least penetration. Since the longer barrels seemed to have more significant wound tracks, it occurred to me that maybe the higher velocity caused the bullet to expand faster on impact which caused a more significant wound track and less penetration.
The more I see of ammo tests comparing pistols to carbine-length pistol calibers, there doesn't seem to be a terminal ballistic advantage to having a gun in a pistol caliber in a carbine.
@@Pmedic605 well that changes a bit when you get to magnum cartridges like 357 and 44, they utilize slower burning powders that can take advantage of some barrel length.
Nice...for BIG Pistols you want either Hard or Heavy or both. Check out my Timed FAIR Caliber battle between 6 different calibers let me know your thoughts..

Thank you. That HST is a stunningly well designed bullet. That level of performance over such a wide velocity range is amazing.

Great video. I found the 124 gr HST had the best accuracy out of several different types and weights of 9mm ammo out of my pistols.

Very respectable performance and velocities, especially from the 3". Gotta love HST one of the most reliable defensive rounds.

My carry ammo is Federal HST +P+ in either 115gr or 124gr. Both work well on whitetail deer and hogs from a 16 inch carbine.
really consistent! You need something with a magnum in the name or maybe 10mm handloads to make use of that 16 inches.
