    Is this pump supposed to run (like there was a call for water) occasionally even when there is no call for water ANYWHERE in the house? This is the 3rd dab easybox I’ve had and the first “3” model and they’ve ALL done this.

      Is the pump boosting city water pressure, or is the inlet of the pump being flooded with water from an above ground storage tank?

    It's been 2 years since your video. How is the pump doing these days? Is it more durable and reliable than the scala2 pump from Grundfos?

    • @rainwaterequipmentllc7835

      We are still using that same pump in that same location. We’ve had no issues with it and have been very happy with the performance. The Scala 2 pump from Grundfos has been improved, and it is performing much better than in years past.

      @@rainwaterequipmentllc7835 Scala2 should be improved because it's a very good pump if not for its shortcomings. I will also consider the Esybox mini 3 based on your review and assessment. Thanks.

      At first pass, I'd guess you had something obstructing the suction to the pump. And you might check to make sure there's nothing stuck in either the suction side check valve or the discharge check valve (aka, non-return or shutter valve) of the pump. We always recommend a pre-filter to prevent debris from entering the pump.

      @@rainwaterequipmentllc7835 it is a holding tank with filtered water, so on the discharge end there is a valve? Is that inside unit?

    • @rainwaterequipmentllc7835
      @rainwaterequipmentllc7835  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@daltonsalaskanadventures7673 Yes. It's inside the front cover to the left of the digital screen. Kill the power to the pump, and close the ball valve on the water tank that feeds the pump. Open a valve on the discharge side of the pump to alleviate the pressure. Use the small Allen wrench found inside the lid on top to open the green cover on the front of the pump. Then use a set of needle-nose pliers to grab the check valve, and turn it counter-clockwise while pulling toward you. It should come out so you can see if there's anything obstructing it. Don't mess with the rubber cap inside the cover. It's the valve stem cover for the internal pressure tank.

    Do you install a pressure vessel on this?

    • @rainwaterequipmentllc7835
      @rainwaterequipmentllc7835  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's not required (there is a small one built in), but it's ok to add one if you wish. They can be beneficial to help with thermal expansion when older hot water heaters are in use. They can also be useful in applications where your system is calling for small amounts of water over and over again many times making the pump turn on/off, on/off, on/off, like with a swimming pool auto-refill system or a drip irrigation system as examples. The rule of thumb is to set the pressure on the expansion tank at about 15 PSI below the pressure set point on the pump.

    I have a grunfos MQ3-45 that's been going strong for 8 years now. Researching the scala2 vs the DAB mini box 3, what's your opinion on these 2 pumps?

    • @rainwaterequipmentllc7835
      @rainwaterequipmentllc7835  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      DAB MINI 3 is the way to go. The MINI is a variable speed, constant pressure pump that allows you to control the pressure at the push of a button. It can be installed vertically or horizontally, is dual voltage (115/230V), has a frost prevention feature, and now comes with stainless steel union connection fittings. As of my response on 8/20/22, the SCALA 2 has long lead times. The SCALA 1 3-45 and 5-55 are single speed pumps that are in stock and are very similar the functionality of the MQ, albeit with Bluetooth capability and some cool features that you get when you install the free GrundfosGO app. SCALA2 is not Bluetooth enabled, and the app doesn't work with it.
      Note that if you purchase from us, we handle any warranty issues on all of our pumps with the manufacturer on your behalf. Other sites/companies don't necessarily do that. Thanks!

    • @rainwaterequipmentllc7835
      @rainwaterequipmentllc7835  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@ntme9 That's always a tough question to answer, because some applications use the pump more often than others, and some don't pre-filter like they should. DAB warranties all of its pumps for 2 years, and the MINI has only been around for 3-4 years in the U.S. I believe. But due to the nature of its design, including soft start and VFD (motor speed up/slow down) capabilities, I would imagine if you use a pre-filter to keep debris out of the impellers and you keep an eye on it to make sure there are no leaks in your piping (which causes pump cycling), you should expect 8-10 years of use, maybe more. A small (2-4 gallon) expansion tank is not required but would limit the number of pump starts/stops over the years and might extend its life a bit.

    • @rainwaterequipmentllc7835
      @rainwaterequipmentllc7835  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Possibly. It does offer up to 26' of suction lift, but a shallow well jet pump typically has more lift capability, so it would depend on the flow and pressure that your pump is producing and how many vertical feet the jet pump is having to lift the water before pushing it.
