I bought the Diamond MMA Athletic Cup Groin Protector that Icy Mike recommended in this video. It’s brilliant!!! He is totally right about the cup. It just fits properly and is way more comfortable than the old shock doctor I used to have. I also purchased extra jockstraps so I can cycle them through the wash as I train 5 days a week. The extra jock straps came with the same micro fiber pouch that the whole kit came with.

Hey have you ever done a video on attacking someones guard? (Stand up not BJJ) I would be interested in seeing any tricks or tips you've picked up along the way, like combos you prefer to use to clear the hands and create an opening. Love the channel I wish I lived closer so I could train with y'all.
Umm... welcome to the channel, new guy! (I am terrible at BJJ. I hate it. I have very little to offer. I've shared maybe... 3 things about it ever and it's the only 3 things I know.)
@@hard2hurt Sorry, you misunderstood me. When I said guard I was referring to the hands and arms of a standing opponent not grappling. I don't know what else to call that besides a guard? Oh my gosh I couldn't agree with the Diamond MMA Cup more. AS a taller dude I get kneed in the groin a lot and you just can''t feel a thing with the diamond. Its definitely on the pricey side for a cup but if you're gonna spend more for any piece of gear a cup is proboblsy the best place to spend.
Hey Mike, thanks for the advice on sparring gear. I haven't used lace-up gloves myself so I felt like I was in the choir, but I appreciate it anyway. My question is have you ever thought about getting Winning or Cleto Reyes gloves?
How bad is your eyesight? I was a track and field athlete; running (including passing a relay) and high jump was okay up to 4.50-5.00 degrees of myopia, but I could hardly find my step for a long jump or triple jump when I was a 3.00. Now I'm at 7.50 and I don't think it ever gets in my way during sparring or bag work, but it does render shadowboxing in front of a mirror useless. I also think you can learn something by watching others hitting the pads during your breaks, which I can't always do.
Your not lying about the most important gear, sparring yesterday got kicked in the nuts 2 times, first one i was able to walk it off, but minute later with harder kick to the nuts, dropped me and had me crying 😂 i can take a hit to the face no problem but a shot to the nuts hurt and made me realize i need a cup
I forget the name but I have the sanabul gloves that are basically a wrap with the built in knuckle guard and they're been fantastic for light work, extra protection, etc. And takes a fraction of the amount of time to put on for wraps. Not quite as much support around the wrist as wraps but it depends on what you're doing.
Revgear kicking shield is the best damn kicking shield on God’s green earth. Rival 16oz sparring gloves are my favorite and Fairtex 10oz angular sparring gloves are my favorite for mitt work and Top King shin guards. That’s my recommendation round up

I haven't, but I just checked them out and you're right they are pricey. I imagine that they are a lot better than most stuff but I wonder by how much.
@@hard2hurt Well there is a few reasons for the high price: 1. The Gloves are using Technology Foam that is designed to absorb dynamic pressure, unlike most other brands 2. The Products feature an internal strapping system that puts your fist in a way more natural positiom than others do 3. You can mold them to the shape of your hand by heating the glove with a hairdryer 4. The Glove supports your hand to a level that doesnt require you to wear handwraps 5. The Brand doesnt have a large production company behind it so they can't mass produce. 6. They just use really high quality materials and everything is "basically" custom made. I think that kind of justifies the price to a certain point. Sorry for my bad english if there was any.

I have bicycle brand cup that slip into the chonies with the front cup pocket cuz I hate jock straps. My head gear is ringside which I don't think is my favorite but I don't use it often unless I'm in an amateur fight that requires it. Lastly I use pro boxing hand wraps which are just cheap and fine. My MMA gloves I use for sparring are the open hand 7 0z sanabull gloves f cuz they have some padding over the knuckles but you can still sneak em into chokes and grab legs and arms (29.99)
Mike wiklejohn, famous coach injured his eye badly from getting a toenail in the eye while holding pads, cornea injury and 22 stitches, clip those toenails for sure. and a sweaty partner is the worst teeping to their body and then when your foot lands it slides on the mat, or clinching with just wraps behind the head and on the arm when their all sweaty, almost gag sometimes, I recommend a shower with deodorant Also before training just the polite thing to do

They can be fitted and have an extreme amount of protection with very little leverage points because of that. Out of all the gloves I've seen as a coach the Onyx gloves have impressed me the most. Well made and comfortable. I've never sparred with them. All my sparring is with my hayabusa gloves which i love as well.

6:11 I like those gloves! I currently use some generic brand MMA gloves for sparring in Choy Li Fut because we have a lot of grabs and trapping, but they have padding under the fingers which is restrictive. But I like the ones in your video!
I have used a few brands, I like the Sanabul gloves, unlike Mike I wear large gloves and double wide shoes. I have never used Rev Gear, if Mike likes the way they fit his elf hands, I probably will not.

I used to wear the Hayabusa Ikusas and I liked them a lot but they took a long time to break in and just as they were breaking in the velcro wore out, but Nate and Seth both wear the newer Hayabusas and both report that they are awesome.
@ 13:10 "if we are both hot and sweaty and rubbing up against each other, thats fun" :)
How does Icy feel about wearing 4oz. MMA gloves for some bag work?
Probably feels like he's too smart to do that
Umm... maybe every once in awhile? If you're an MMA fighter, occasionally. I don't really know what the purpose is for anyone else. Either develop power in bag gloves or develop range and technique bare knuckle... not sure what the 4 ozs in training are for.
Leave it to Icy Mike to make packing your bag 🎒 for class become fun and entertaining. Are yaw practicing Saturday? I'm off and might right down for the afternoon.
Not this Saturday.
Recos on headgear (boxing)?
💯💯
Hey Mike are you ever gonna show off the effectiveness of nut shots and how they effectively force guys to drop hands and lean face forward?
I am instantly signing up for the next icy Mike seminar and purposely going to wear the same shirt. All weekend.
And I am not going to clip my toenails
It will be fun.
Bro me and my friend got jumped by 4 people and the pepper spray gun you made a vid about saved our life bc he sprayed 2 of so it was a 2v2 and my friend was stomping out his guy but mine was lowly beating my ass bc I have a fractured knuckle so I went for a double let takedown but he sprawled and was kneeing me and punching me in the side but he did like no damage
3:54 somebody clip that
Dude turned into a revgear spokesman
I got stubby fingers and fat hands, so the curved (non) mma gloves you showcased are my favorite. When I wear the standard mma gloves it looks like vienna sausages creeping out of a gardening glove.
3:52 lmao
forget a small boo boo or med kit, once use ice pack, Advil etc
What about ground and pound sir? You need mma gloves for that
Why?
@@hard2hurt so that you can also grapple the bag while hitting it, you can't grab things in boxing gloves
This video is primarily brought to you by RevGear
too bad Revgear is kind of hard to come across in Southeast Asia, Twins are excellent tho
Bro, if you’re over there, don’t bother with North American brands. Twins, Windy, Fairtex are all awesome brands and I would use all of their stuff if they were more available.
