    Don't forget to put your sends in pre so you can refine the master mix without changing the HP mix.

    Unless you set your sends as "pre" (which you did not), it doesn't make any sense to copy the levels of your mixer into your send levels. You want to put all sends at 0dB, so they send your current mixer volumes, and from there, put more or less level on specific channels. The way you did it, a channel that you have in your mixer as +12dB (like your FT.02 channel) will send +24dB to the headphones. Also, any change you make in your mixer still affects the headphones mix. Now, if you set those sends as "pre", then yes, you need to copy your mixer levels to the send levels in order to have the same initial mix, and as they are in "pre", they don't get affected by changes in your mixer. Personally, I'd go with the first option and set the initial level of the sends to 0dB and not setting the sends as "pre".

  • @PabloLaFrossia
    @PabloLaFrossia 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's very different than how Focusrite sets up their headphones mix. I may try this method on my next recording and see which one is more user-friendly.
    This is usually how you set up foldback mixes on a typical analog console.
    Thanks for sharing!

    • @PintoMusicHTX
      @PintoMusicHTX  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cool. No problem.

    • @PabloLaFrossia
      @PabloLaFrossia 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      So I got to try this a bit more this morning and this is what I found. Let me know if you have encountered any similar issues. Personally, your method is a much more efficient way of working, since you don't have to switch screens when creating headphone mixes and adjusting levels.
      1. I set all the Sends to Pre Fade listen. This way, if I want to solo a channel (to monitor), it does not interfere with the artist's headphone mixes.
      2. On the Focusrite Control, I had to set the Outputs to the corresponding mixes. For example, let's say we're making a different mix using Outputs 7-8 (from Outputs 1-2 which are the monitors), if you leave the output to Playback 1-2 (or Custom Mix), then it's going to send both mixes to that one channel (because every out listens to Playback 1-2, unless you change it). Once take out "Custom Mix" , the screen shows the "routing" of the that particular output. So I have to go back to Outputs 1-2 (Monitors - which are set to Custom Mix), to adjust and add the channels.
      When you get a chance, try muting the sends from the channel strips and see if the signal is still going through if all the Outputs on the Focusrite Control are all set to "Custom Mix."
      Together, I think we can troubleshoot and set up a more efficient routing solution than the one Focusrite suggest. Thanks! \m/

    • @PintoMusicHTX
      @PintoMusicHTX  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think I understand what you are saying. Correct me if I'm wrong.
      1. If I set up a headphone Mix in PT using a send? I select all of the tracks and add a send to all of the them. PT then creates an AUX track. I set it's output to 7/8 or 9/10.
      2. I then go to Focusrite Control and scroll down to 7/8 and set it up as Custom Mix. And I add 7/8. Here's the trick.
      3. If I 7/8 as a track on outputs 7/8 within focus rite control, it is also added to all of the other outputs.
      4. so, You can a- mute 7/8 on all of the other outputs or B. set the outhe outputs not as a custom Mix but as a direct monitoring.
      Does this make sense?
      I will try to check the scenario you described above today.

    Thanks man very helpful. I'm using logic but it should be the same configuration. I do have a headphone amp 6 channels a focusrite 8prex and a octopre - just got the octo.
    I saw u just put the guitar if I have a whole band I just do the same to every instrument ?

    • @PintoMusicHTX
      @PintoMusicHTX  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Eduardo. Sorry for the Late Reply. To answer your question " Do I have to do the same to every instrument?:" the Answer is no. In the video you saw me create a BUS ( An Aux Track in Pro Tools). That bus is specially used to send Audio to my headphone amp. So My headphone amp is routed via outputs 7&8 and 9&10 so I have the ability to have two separate mixes. Then I went back to all of my tracks and told each track to send audio to my Cue Mix ( 7&8). I now can send a little guitar, a little bass, a little drums. If you want more then one cue mix if you are recording a full band, you have to create the Buses that match the number of mixes you can have in your headphone amp. If your headphone amp only can take two then you only need two Buses. Then you set the bus on each track. For example. If you have two cue mixes, you can go to your guitar track and send guitar to Cue mix 1 and two ( Bus 7-8) don't forget, you have to assign the output of your interface on the bus channel that's going to take the Audio from Daw to your Headphone amp. Ok, no you want to send bass to only one CUe mix. Go to the bass track and only send bass. You do this for every track. Does that make sense? Don't hesitate to ask any more questions. All the best. George.

    So the HP Amp1 had been routed to output 7-8 in the Pro Tools but then, in the Mix Control you routed HP1 to the playback 1-2. Guitarist should have no sound in that scenario, am I right?

    Instead of an Aux, create another Master Fader output. This will eliminate to possibility of someone using a send on that track and creating a feedback loop.

      Studio73.rocks that’s a good question. If you did it that way, you would only get left on 7, right on 8. They wouldn’t be mono mixes. They would be left and right. But you can also use your other outputs. 3-4/5-6/

    At the way end of the video you said you can use the front headphone amps (which you labeled HP1 'Output 7-8' and HP2 'Output 9-8) and the outputs (7-8, 9-10) in the back as well. Would it be getting the same signals or can you route totally different signals to the Output 7-8 in the front and the Output 7-8 in the back?

    I have the Scarlett 6i6 and I can't figure out how to play the system sound ( sound from my computer; youtube, sound cloud etc ) while being able to hear the sound coming from my yamaha synthesizer that I have plugged in to the rear line level inputs 3 and 4 for a stereo signal. I am able to switch between listening to one or the other, but I would like to be able to hear them both at the same time. For example, when I am preparing for a gig, I like to play along on my synthesizer with a song from TH-cam so I need to be able to hear them simultaneously. With my old interface this wasn't an issue, but this Scarlett is very confusing.

Not because of you, but I must say, I'm a bit throwing off of you demoing of Setting up Cue Mixes with Pro Tools.. As of right now,i'm just getting along using the Focusrite Control Presets (Analog 2 and 8) as to I have no clue to what I'm doing setting up Custom Mixes other than just Trial and Error without any success..LOL.. I’m having a feedback issue, when I insert more then one hardware on a track I will get a double. I then would go to Focusrite control to turn fader down which allows me to hear nothing on that channel. I’ve tried muting also still nothing. All my inputs and out puts matches with Protools. My connections is correct, I’m using balanced cables.
    Focusrite control line outputs matches playback inputs. I’m using Focusrite clarett 8pre all connections is used.

    • @PintoMusicHTX
      @PintoMusicHTX  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      OK. You shouldn’t have a feedback loop going if you mute the track just play with it you’ll get to it you’ll figure it out. It took me a little bit, but you have to play with muting the tracks and because you will get a feedback if the tracking your daughter is not muted or something like that don’t remember I don’t have the clarrette anymore so I haven’t used it in a little bit but I remember that exact issue just play with it you’ll get there

    I love how the sends output was Mon 1-2 then magically Out 7-8 same with the software for the preamp. It was playback 1-2 then magically playback 7-8. Great video but I think what needs to change is that you need to be more confident and also skip the other parts of groups and the global attributes etc because this video is about setting up the headphone sends not how they're group etc.

    This is insanely confusing. 4:10 "send guitar cue to outputs 7,8."
    5:04 "I'm gonna add playback 1,2" But you put the guitar cue on 7,8; shouldn't you be adding Software playback 7,8?
    5:22 "You can see that the audio is coming out the focusrite control". Okay...
    5:33 "If you grab your headphones, ... you may not hear any audio at this point." But you just said...
    5:54 "my outputs going to outputs 7,8" (Then you show your focusrite control software)...but WHOA! You changed it! Without telling us!? So at 5:22, that was the main outputs coming to the headphones, not the guitar cue. Maybe you should have said something?
    5:59 "Notice there's no audio coming out." Oh, surprise!
    On the one hand, I learned a lot by watching this video, but it was in *spite* of your instruction. This is complicated stuff already, when you do switcheroos off camera, it doesn't help anyone.
