    One addition you should make to the desk/table. Mount a wireless induction charger plate underneath the top surface (Samsung or other). Then you can just lay your smartphone over the plate while on the desk to charge the phone while not in use. It is surprising how deep these can be mounted while still making an induction charge. (Just remember to put some sort of discrete mark on the surface to locate the placement of the phone, perhaps a darker veneer dot.)

Its been im the family since 1981 since it had 800 miles and since then my grandpa used to spray oil under it and in the spots that rot by drilling holes, spraying and pluging them with a rubber plug. Its just the past 20 years after he gave it to my great uncle, my dad and my brother inlaw and they didnt keep up with it so she rusted. She was just a i6 but when my brother inlaw got it he put the 360 in and a 3 speed. It sat mostly finished in a barn then he gave it to me then i ended up puting a trans in it to fix the gearing he messed up then the engine blew up so i swapped that out for a new long block. Its my baby lol. Plan is drive it as is but dont let it rot any worse, get my 1982 fiberglass basket case jeep running, then do a frame off on the 81 and use the 82 as a daily. this one looks better yep, though I find that Linus' cooling method is better imo. Maybe not nececceraly temprature wise but simply from the fact that you dont need 40 expensive fans but rather only half a dozen 120mm ones. Which i stink wouldve been a better approach here too. But really i cant beat this guys desk pc so i can't say its an error as much as a personal prefference.
      If it works it works :)

    I’d like to see a view of the desk with a thermal camera though to see if there are any hot spots and thermal management issues...

    • @SuperAlfredo333
      @SuperAlfredo333 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      That wouldn't get you much information with the two aluminum plates acting as heat spreaders. You'd have to remove the plates to take the measurement, but then the measurement would be irrelevant since the aluminum plates are a critical part of the airflow system. Wouldn't be too tricky to put thermal probes everywhere you're worried about hot spots as a final verification test, though.
      Based on his approach to the Canon camera thermal rework, he's clearly extremely knowledgeable about and has a strong intuition for thermal design. I don't see too much to nitpick here.

    • @GremlinSciences
      @GremlinSciences 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SuperAlfredo333 The heat would spread, but it would also dissipate as it spreads. So there would still be parts that are measurably warmer than the rest.
      The point in observing with a thermal camera would also be to locate where the heat spreads _from_, not how it spreads.
      Just knowing the general area (eg, knowing there's a hotspot near the memory) is sufficient information to restructure the cooling/airflow.

    Amazing work! Another upgrade that would be nice would be linking up the action of powering up the PC with the monitor mechanically coming down from the floating shelf. Though I get that doing the inverse of this, i.e. shutting down the PC, would be tricky to trigger an action to retract the monitor again.

  • @dawsie
    @dawsie 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Lol this when my hearing loss pays off because I can not hear a PC running. I do love the desk, I have a professional wooden desk around 60 years old 😏just realised it’s a few years older than me😹😹but it has under it a huge space behind the front trim so I could in fact do the same with it but I won’t need to go the same lengths that you have as the new desk top PC I am buying is slim enough to hide u der the desk and as there are no CD/DVD drivers in it I can hide an external on top of the desk. I loved how you did the monitor so I might look at doing something like that myself in the future as at times I have a need for using 2 or 3 when doing designing so that way when they are not in use they can be tucked away out of sight.
    Thanks for such great ideas 🤗🤗🤗
