When I bought my FJ 62 Landcruiser in 1989, all my friends thought I was crazy for spending $19,000. for it! 375,000 miles later, I sold it for 10 grand and bought an FJ Cruiser in 2006 (2007 model year) for $25,700, brand new! My FJ now has 200,000 + miles on it and is still running great. I just ordered a new 1958 LC just 'cos I want it and can afford it. The two of them are gonna clog up my driveway until I find the right soulmate for my FJ...or not....hahahaha! ...dang! ....wish I kept the FJ62....ah well......60+ grand for the new one? As the blues man says, "Tomorrow, who knows? But, tonight, who cares?"....Enjoy life, y'all!
All the people saying its over priced havent driven this off road. I have the 1958 and have already taken it through hell in the nastiest pockets of az. Its not a crawler but it can get anywhere. Its perfect where it needs to be. The ac set up blows the 4runner away. You can also fit bigger tires than the 4runner. If the 9.5 inch clearance(with 33s) isnt enough for you, get over the fact you cant go 30 mph where you shouldnt.
I put a deposit on a 1958, black with roof rack. I hear people complain about the finishes. The first Land Cruisers, like broncos were pretty uncomplicated trucks. That’s exactly why we chose the 1958. Back to basics.
Bryan, If given a choice between a 'budget' Land Cruiser, Wrangler, Bronco or Defender, my spare cash would go to the Land Cruiser. Having said that, my Land Cruiser would have to have the two-tone paint. 😁
The second tier is only 5k more which I think is worth the money. You get a bigger screen and nicer interior. The other alternative is the GX 550 which is 'only' 65k. The dealers out here are selling them for a 10k dealer mark up which is nuts. The land cruiser is now 70k for the middle range!
They come with Geolanders. I have those steps on the way. Mine came with NO floormats. Dealer said Japan sends what they send--no options. Also, the load limit for the cargo space is 120 lbs.
Not exactly - the 120 lbs is for the very rear of the cargo space, which has a light duty cover over a small cargo compartment. The rest of the drive battery cover - floor is made of steel, so I am sure that it will support a decent load. Not many owners will want to carry a load of bricks back there.
Forums are saying that there is a half-cover coming in with the Land Cruisers hitting lots that looks much better for the tow hitch. Also agreed on the tires, they should all come in with proper AT tires, but those predator steps....ugh.
Great video. Keep up the great work. Question. Does this tire fit in the underneath spare wheel space? Looks like this one is NOT fitting the same tire in the spare wheel.
It does. He just missed the button placement which is weird. Right above "sync" button in the row of HVAC controls just to the left of the passenger heated seat button.
Not from what I've seen. Toyota is probably the hottest brand right now with all hits. The Tundra is the only thing that collects dust at our store and they have washes been that way.
Saw this in real life. Looks very cheap and don’t let the name “Land Cruiser” fool you. Cheap hard plastics, cloth seats, PepBoys tires. But oooh the badge says “LandCruiser”! 8 inches of ground clearance is less than a Subaru. It is a 4Runner in different clothes. In a way the 4Runner is much more honest because that is exactly what it is.
You do realize the LC has more ground clearance than broncos without the 35s. it's ground clearance is pretty standard for a stock SUV. It's almost identical to the previous Land Cruiser, but with better approach and departure angles.
Stupid tire size. What other vehicle has rear locker and tiny tires? Very incomplete thought on 1958. Botched what was a good concept by not sticking with a designated plan. And no , cheaper is not a well thought out plan. Off road stuff and no thrills is but then tires would be the same and SDM would be there. Get it to together Toyota!!!
The 1958 exterior looks cheap to me, not sure how much of that is the wheels and how much is the extra plastic, and they cheaped up the interior plastics. Other details like the turn lines on backup camera, that doesn't even save the many money it's just a decontent to push you to upgrade, I feel like the 1958 has a lot of that. Though I actually like that it doesn’t have a power lift gate, I don't know why so many people want that the powered ones are slow and how lazy are you. The trim to get IMO is mid tier LC trim at ~$62k with softex. I feel like softex would hold up best over time with my dogs getting in the car wet etc. Looks better than 1958. First edition looks great but is a ripoff for what you get. I would never get anything with the coolbox, such a stupid/gimmicky feature you lose all that storage to satisfy a stereotype of fat Americans who can't be 6 inches away from a 6 pack of coke.

Exactly, it's nice to have a "basic" option rather than a fully loaded vehicle that someone might want to off road.

Vinyl wraps for the win!
@@AskforBryan Heritage Blue with the off-white roof would require a lot of wrapping.
great review. thanks for this!
Great walk around 👍
Thank you!

Why do we need to cover hitch receivers on SUVs or pickups? Are we ashamed of towing?
If I was in the market., this will be it
Me too!
Great video. Keep up the great work.
Question. Does this tire fit in the underneath spare wheel space? Looks like this one is NOT fitting the same tire in the spare wheel.
From what I understand, the 58 does come with a heated steering wheel
It does. He just missed the button placement which is weird. Right above "sync" button in the row of HVAC controls just to the left of the passenger heated seat button.
What’s the lug pattern on these, 6x139? Same as 4runner?
19:42 The plastic fenders also protrude more on the first edition
Good point! A bit more flared for sure.
Interesting to note, people are fed up with what toyota offers now days. They will keep buying but there is a shift in opinion on value.
What people? Name 10.
Not from what I've seen. Toyota is probably the hottest brand right now with all hits. The Tundra is the only thing that collects dust at our store and they have washes been that way.
from the comments I see everywhere, it seems like traditional toyota owners mostly.
No MTS or crawl control in the 1958. Mid trim is best value for the additional interior and off road features for ~$6k more.
1958’s have crawl control. Just not the other terrain management systems.
Sean is correct. The terrain modes really don't do as much as the the DAC and Crawl Control.
I believe you can get the Lexus GX 550 Overland for $67,000
64K base line and way better
$69,250 starting for Overtrail
Love these, but it's too bad the rear seats dont fold down flat like the 4th gen 4runner
I can agree with you there for sure. It's certainly an oversight with the missing third row.
If the base model was closer to 45k, I could accept that the interior was all cheap plastics. But for 55k? They can do better.
What size were those tires?
I'd like to know as well I'm thinking of getting 275 70 18s
@@andrew5373 I bought a 1958 about a week ago. First thing I did was put 275/70R18 Falken AT4W and they fit. No rubbing.

Please don't tell me that you think a new Subaru is as capable as a new Land Cruiser....
@@AskforBryan 🙌🙌🙌🙌
@@AskforBryan please ask yourself why it has so little ground clearance and bargain basement tires?

@@AskforBryan you do realize you are completely wrong? Regular Bronco has 11.7 inches clearance vs 8 for the LC. Maybe you meant the Bronco Sport?
This has the same rear legroom as the new 4runner?
I haven't seen the new ones yet, but it's pretty close to the existing 4runners.
@@AskforBryan It certainly has more headroom than a 4Runner.
Still need more value. Sleight of hand by Toyota. For 57k need to keep SDM and MTS and actual SUV worthy tires. Come on man!
Slight
10k mark up on the 1958 at my local dealer
ADM SCUM
Lol. The stock tires are just because Toyota is being cheap... And those Nittos need to be one size bigger. They look tiny.
They all come with the ridge grapplers to up the price
Way better tires at least
12:30 nope ist does not disengage always 4wd
Make a tight turn in one and see if it stays in 4WD.
It’s full-time 4wd with a center differential that can be locked. So all wheels are powered at all times.
Premium gas...bummer!
Yup! No one has talked about that.
Yes, it is very unusual for a Toyota branded vehicle to ask for Premium.
Cloth seats for a 57k SUV? shame on toyota..
Budget 60k for a toyota lol

MSRP? Or ADM scum?
MSRP + Addendum with some additional accessories
I see you are careful not to show the engine bay
What's there to see?

Yuck another over priced new car
You can get a completely refurbished late 70's early 80's toyota hilux pickup with 1 mile on the odometer and a 22r or re moter for around 30k.
Apparently you are unaware that the average new car in the US in late 2024 is almost $48,000 retail (plus tax, setup fees, etc)
@chrism3872 Yes I'm aware That's why I say overpriced.
