    If only we still had this type of uplifting and encouraging songs about our dear Lord Jesus how much better our society would be. Pray with me for the future of America.

      The future of America is in HIS hands . Not ours.

      @@marshallcurrie8391 I humbly disagree. Mary is correct. The Bible says America's future is in our hands. 1st Chronicles 7;14, "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." That is a big "if."

    I play guitar and harmonica and sing a few of their songs with my twin brother before we separated when he got married but we still play and sing their songs.We are getting quite old but will sing these gospel songs to give all the glory to the Lord Jesus Christ.

    Thank you so much for posting.
    In what I believe were the early/mid '60's, we would watch Reno & Smiley on a show called the Valley Barn Dance, broadcast weekly from a studio just outside of Harrisonburg, VA. At least that's what I recall. I got a chance to sit in the studio audience, just once, to see/hear Red Smiley after Don Reno had struck out on his own. Hard to believe, but we got this station in Cumberland, MD, along with many others, in years when major metropolitan areas only had three.
    Exposure to the music of these two gentlemen made it difficult for me ever to fully accept the "Nashville Sound". Theirs always seemed more "authentic".

    Also, there's percussion, no fiddle. You're correct: Reno is a boss banjo master, Mac is a fiddle. But, not on this record. Listen to it.

      Reno was a master flatpicker, Doc Watson credits Don in giving him the idea for flatpicking fiddle tunes after seeing Don playing some in the 1950s.

  • @blueridger7156
    @blueridger7156 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Uh, Don Reno played banjo, not lead guitar. (BTW, he was as good a bluegrass banjo picker as ever lived!) And Mac Magaha played fiddle, not percussion.

    • @besorich1
      @besorich1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      He also played lead guitar.

    • @jacobjwengerd8614

      Blue Ridger I second that he was the best banjo picker ever lived:::: which he is not living anymore but he's good

    • @rebelliousredneckvlogs
      @rebelliousredneckvlogs 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nope, Don played the lead guitar on this album. He actually was a very innovative and accomplished flatpicker especially for the time.
