      It takes a little time to get Chrysler setup but the scan tool works great once you do get it setup. I had to update my launch torque link before it would work as a J2534 device. If you have issues connect the smartlink directly to the internet with an Ethernet cord and use the touch screen to get to the update menu. Make sure it is plugged into a vehicle or a power source.

      Where did you buy the tool?

      Thanks again for watching Dave! I’m getting more and more OEM tooling as our demand for programming increases. I have 4 different j2534 device now and like to see how many will work with different manufactures. Currently testing the launch smartlink and the only one I’ve had issues with is Nissan new software. Only a couple tools on the market work with Nissan and even with the OEM tool it’s a risk to program them.

    fantastic video dude! im trying to learn how i can broaden my business by offering these dealer level flashes and updates as i have the same launch jbox that came with my throttle 3

      Glad it was helpful! I started with GM and then added Chrysler. Chrysler was a challenge to get all set up but one you do it a couple times it becomes easy.
      Now I also do Subaru, Toyota, Honda, ford, Nissan.
      Chevy is still my most common vehicle followed by ford and Chrysler.

      @ThePracticalMechanic are you doing all of those manufactures through this same Jbox or are you having to supplement in other brand boxes?

      @@ThePracticalMechanicDo you use all the OE Software with the same Launch J2534?
      Also, do you run them on separate computers or can some of them cohabitate in the same computer?
      Thanks

      @@DownloaderVideo I have most OEM interfaces as well so I don’t use the launch often.
      I have three laptops that are all partitioned.
      I run a domestic partition, Asian, euro and a couple extras just in case. If software isn’t working I just swap over to one of my extra partitions or switch to a different laptop. I have one laptop with my Subaru subscription on one partition and Nissan on the other partition. Each of those subscriptions is $3600 a year so I try to keep them isolated to prevent issues.
      Ford IDS and FJDS can run on one partition because the license is locked to the computer. If you want to try that software on a different computer, you first have to go to the original computer and release the license before reapplying the license to the other computer. if the computer dies before you release the license, you have to call tech-support to get them to release it.
      The launch smart link will work for many manufactures, but it is not the best interface. I just released a video this morning with a speed comparison while programming Subaru ECM’s. The launch SmartLink was able to do the job but it took six times longer.

    tolles Video, aber wie bekomme ich die OEM-Lizenz für WiTech 2.0. Ich habe auch einen SmartLink, der gerade nicht im Einsatz ist, was eine sehr gute Ergänzung wäre

    Can't you copy the bin file from the original module (if still communicating) and write it to the new module or used one?

    Hi. Nice video. Thanks. Will Launch work to program a 2020 ram 3500? Or do you have to buy the Original Interface for this year?

    • @ThePracticalMechanic
      @ThePracticalMechanic  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@johnmy2985 those newer vehicles are more sensitive to latency so I wouldn’t use this tool. I use the MDP(OEM pod) for almost all Chrysler programming now and haven’t had any issues.

      It can be overwhelming to jump into OEM scantools for the aftermarket. If your serious about getting into programming or OEM scantools I would sign up for L1 automotive training. He has courses on all OEM scantools and programming.

    Why use the legacy app if it’s a witech 2.0 vehicle

    Hey man, I’m starting into programming and can get this interface for $500. Do you think it is a good deal and option as my first decent J2534?
    Thanks in advance!

      @@DownloaderVideo I think an autel or opus device would have better speed and coverage but this would get you foot in the door. You will soon find out that there isn’t a single device that can handle what you need.
      Newer GMs require the OEM interface, 2014 and older Subaru require OEM or opus interface, Chrysler is much more reliable if you buy the MDP OEM interface, Nissan requires the Cardaq+3 or OEM interface.
      It gets really expensive to cover them all 100%

      @@ThePracticalMechanic Thanks mam, I know it gets expensive. So I have also the option of getting a Launch X431 Pro 5 which also comes with this J2534 all for $1,000. What do you think? and please feel free to give me your recommendation if it was starting.
      Thank you!

    Do I need a Launch license to use j2534?

    • @ThePracticalMechanic
      @ThePracticalMechanic  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      You do not need an active license for the launch tool but you will need to purchase a subscription from the OEM manufacturer that you want to program

    I was suppose to attempt to reprogram a friends 96’ caravan. 😂 for $200 i can get a reman plug and play just put in the VIN. All this crap of programs and subscriptions is STUPID. By the time your done $500 and you still cant be sure it will all work.

    This is why we hate Chrysler, I could've updated 6 Fords in the time it took you to set up.

    • @ThePracticalMechanic
      @ThePracticalMechanic  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@joshmarcellis8270 the j2534 route is not the best option available. The MDP with annual subscription is one of the best OEM tools. Flashing is quick and I have had zero login issues. Ford test man errors and fdrs login issues suck.
      I have annual ford and use it just as much as Chrysler. Chrysler issue is no offline scantool available
