Badly Translated Paper Mario 64 (Chapter 8)

- "How many people still believe in stars?" - Chuck Quizmo (AKA Paul)
This is what happens when you take Paper Mario 64 and run it through Google Translate one too many times. You're left with “Book of Mario 64.” The mistranslated text completely changes certain characters, creates a new story, and adds in a few ridiculous comments. I streamed this on my Twitch ( / stryder7x ) in November & December 2019, but just a warning, some of the clips contain innuendos, language, and dark humor depending on how you interpret things. Of course, this dialogue is not endorsed by Nintendo.
My personal favorite aspect is when the lore from this translation is unintentionally expanded upon. For example, Goombario, now "Goverman," ends up fighting the “Common Man” in Chapter 4. Many of the characters talk about businesses (Kooper’s name is now “Corporate” to top things off) and due to the original plot revolving around stars and wishes, the game was mistranslated to have religious themes. Because Google Translate is contextual, these mistranslations are somewhat consistent throughout the entire game.
I've been taking a break from the glitch content since I burn out easily. When you play a game for hours every day with the sole intention of finding or explaining glitches, this is bound to happen I suppose. This best explains my tendency to disappear from the channel for months at a time. Just trying something different this time, in the form of the stream highlights format a lot of you guys seem to enjoy. Thank you for understanding!

Fatguy703 and his friends crafted some amazing lore on their debut run of this that explains why everyone hates Mario at the end. Long story short, the star spirits were controlling Mario to overthrow the Christian church so that people would worship them again (see Paul's final question).
My favorite part is how there's actually some amount of foreshadowing to Mario being possessedx)
In the prologue, Kamopa Kamopa says "Our life is ours", for example.

The official lore for the game explains why Mario is not the hero andwhy almost nobody likes him at the end. Stryder didn't show the dialogue, but Kamopa says: "Do you think we are stupid enough to sit and watch life be destroyed?". Mario actually dies from his first confrontation with Browser at the start of the game. The Stellarvinden then posses his corpse to retrieve the Star of Rodin so they can purge all those who didn't believe on them. Paul tells on his last question that only people still believed in stars, giving the reasons of the actions of the Stellarvinden.
The Stellarvinden then make Mario eat all the peaches, causing the War as seen in Thousands of Doors, and making Mr. Krump's daughter die in the proccess. This also makes the world split on the people's opinions on Mario. For example, Colorade now hates him, since Mario literally killed God (the King of Kings). Carbon, on the other hand, literally loves him, possibly because of "his" world-destroying actions.

Keep in mind that in Thousands of Doors Kamopa does tell Browser during the Chapter 1 interlude that Mario was, after all, "rebuilt" (a connection that no one brought up to Fatguy703 unfortunately)

Mario didn’t save the world, he was possessed by the Stellarvinden and caused the war in ToD. Which wasn’t really his fault, he was dead and all, but that’s why everyone hates him.

Seeing Paul's questions really make me want to see a game with a recurring quiz minigame like Paper Mario's, but over time the questions become increasingly abrasive, accusatory and nonsensical.
The Toad at 10:25 is now gay for all I care. He was pretty clearly flirting with Mario, and he _did_ literally just come out of a closet.

These translations screw with everybody's gender, but somehow Princess of Peaches/Persian Prince/King of Persia/Prince Peach gets it the absolute worst.
I like the interpretation that Thousands of Doors has an entire arc where Peach questions their identity.

i guess it isn't changed... depending on how it was translated and how the text is stored in rom, it's possible that this message (and others) never met the translator...
That line isn't in the English version, so it doesn't exist in this version

He's familiar enough with the original/Japanese PM that he can breeze through it, without having to read the dialogue for context.
Plus, assuming this was an emulation hack, he would have had access to save states, allowing him to answer correctly in rapid-fire. Also, it's possible he already knew the answers from others, who have played this hack, again allowing him to correctly answer in rapid-fire. As I understand, these are clips from his previous stream of this. If he got anything wrong originally, he probably went back, answered correctly, and just pieced together only the necessary clips of the successfully answered questions.
He used save states many times, like in the Source, Things and Policy question. He actually got all the wrong options first.
