Honestly I think the only way they can continue making new Smash games after Ultimate is to essentially reboot everything and give all of the Nintendo characters thoroughly updated movesets.
Yup. Imo, going back to maybe a Melee cast number and putting more effort per character equal to (or maybe less) of making 80+ characters would be a good idea. Since Sakurai SHOULD be retired from Smash (dude you earned it!) there might be less incentive of simplicity.
Samus' moveset is definitely due for an overhaul compared to what some of the newer fighters got. Her iconic morph ball is very poorly represented in Smash in particular.
Flash shift looks broken as both an escape and approach tool. Low key same level as spindash. Also with her "dash melee" moves, it'd be sick if, when you clanked with them, they leave the opponent stunned for a second to reflect Dread even more.
Is it wrong if I kinda wish this mod kept some of her original physical attacks like F-tilt, Up-tilt and down special? I like them because it shows that she’s not just her arm cannon and is a highly trained soldier in a lot of aspects. Another reason is having so many counter animations just feels samey (also the animations here don’t feel very impactful but that’s just the mod). I also like the original up throw better but that’s just pure preference, they’re both very cool looking imo. Also about neutral special: I thought we were trying to make Samus cooler, not lamer. Down special is fine though, I like that rework, if that was in the next smash that could probably be made into something nicer to use and play against. Sorry to be all hater-y, I really do like a lot of the things added, it’s just as a Metroid fan first I just think Samus is really cool and want that to show in Smash which is why I’m hesitant on making her too mechanically like her games because that risks betraying the vibe and personality of Samus to emulate a game style that just doesn’t fit smash or FGs in general.
there's a lot of neat ideas here, but altogether i think it kinda goes to make her too complicated in favor of referencing as much stuff from Dread as possible. Things like down b being morph ball or neutral b being free aim i like. But then things like the dash booster being a run mechanic or her having 4 different kinds of projectiles off of neutral b i think go a bit too far and start to lose sight of the general idea that these characters are supposed to be easy to pick up and play and figure out for most players. having an additional mechanic tied to dashing or having to press different buttons to fire different projectiles aren't as intuitive nor quick to understand as ideas like holding the button to get a stronger attack, or adjusting the stick for a different angle. I think it would be overall better if shine spark was her up b and while flash shift is a neat idea for her side b, i think its still a better idea to leave it as missles to keep charge shot and missles as separate moves and give her more options for zoning which is the archetype she's supposed to fall under.
Agreed, this game can be a LOT to figure out especially for someone new to the series. And this moveset is VERY oppressive and I think would be rough to fight in a casual setting.
That's the problem tho so many characters are just generic kicks and punches they don't feel unique in the slightest pick and sword character bet you they have an attack they just swing there sword in the same linear arc, I understand it might be complicated but that's why you should stick to one character for a bit to get a feel for what they can do dumbing down characters just leads to them never being played cuz you'll eventually find a character that can do the same thing but better biggest example imo Cloud why play any other sword fighter when his neutral and up air are just better and easier to use makes the game stale in terms of possibilities
It also doesn’t consider what the character’s overall playstyle should be or whether those moves would actually be any useful or fun to play against. Samus’ new neutral special seems bad on both ends. You have to stop and pause, which isn’t really practical for a game like this. But at the same time, you’re unleashing loads of projectiles, which would be annoying for other players
@ghost1182able you're complaining about generic punches, kicks, or sword slashes on normals of all things? They are normals. They are supposed to be simpler moves that attack/cover certain area. They don't have to be references for the sake of references. A character like Shulk, for instance, doesn't have much in terms of moves that coulf fill out a list of normals, much less ones that would be fitting for the places. Complaining that many characters Nair have similar purposes is like complaining that many characters in street fighter get moved for similar purposes, like a jump in with cross up capability. Not only does this view not take into consideration that smaller details between said moves, but it also ignores the greater context of the character the move is on. As for why anyone would play any other swordfighter other than cloud, I can think of several examples. Perhaps they just like the combos of different character more, perhaps they want to play their favorite character or a character from their favorite series. But to go into greater detail, maybe one likes the emphasis on zoning and trapping Link provide, maybe someone likes the spacial control characters like Marth or Sephiroth provide, maybe someone likes how floaty and the ease of recovery someone like Sora provides, maybe they like the emphasis on sheer power and rush down Roy can provide, maybe they like the gimmick of monado arts and the variety of ways they can be used that Shulk has. Maybe they like the amount of options and resource management Hero provides. Maybe they like the ability to switch between two versions in Pyra and Mythra with one emphasizing speed and combos and the other range and damage. Even if you can list a normal or two that look similar on many of the characters, they still in the end emphasize quite different play styles.
@@ghost1182able With all due respect, if you think characters are too similar that is because you are bad at the game and don't know what you are talking about. It's like saying all SF characters are the same because it's all just punch and kicks. It's like saying a guitar and bass are the same because they both have strings. It's insane
One of the only things I'm waiting for the next Smash, better moves adaptation from the newest games like idk, maybe they can delete Luigi's cyclone to put a flash light that can freeze the enemy like Mewtwo's down B, Cappy for Mario moves, TotK Link and Ganondorf, and obviously this new Samus, It's awesome.
I think that a really cool taunt would be using the Phantom Cloak to go invisible briefly (but invisible as in transparent - you can still see her outline, it's just kind of shimmery), then coming back.
Too many mechanics in the standard special, and the dash state mechanics should really have just been the side special if you HAD to have them. Drop the missiles from the standard special-- keep it simple. Just have Samus start a running charge when she activates side special, and then when she turns blue you gain access to some powerful moves. The normals are amazing, as is the up special, but the standard special is overcooked. It's problematic enough to have a whole lot of projectiles flying around at once, so at least keep them simple. And maybe don't let it be aimed downwards, because does anyone want more Plasma Breath edgeguarding?
Using this, plus the RavenBeck over Dark Samus.has been fun. Honestly, if they allow the main characters to get new moves and allow the Echos to keep their old movesets I think would be perfect.
Some things could have been flushed out more, but it is amazing what you can do as Samus in her recent game. I just want the features to be just a bet more practical. However, it's amazing how they was able to implement these features, first brawl and now this.
Having free aim would be so much cool... Hopefully in the next Smash game Samus wilp indeed receive at least some new moves, and not just a design change.
Neat stuff! Metroid Dread was a fun game and I enjoyed it a lot. Even if I'm awful at speed booster shenanigans (they leaned kinda hard into them this time around). This moveset looks a good deal faster and more mobile, which fits Dread Samus well.
To me, this is the only reasonable direction Smash can go in. I feel like the next smash needs to have a smaller roster, but every character needs revamped big time, if not entirely. DK (and I’m a DK main) is still out here rocking his slightly made up n64 moveset when there’s a huge selection of games to pull from - and he’s absolutely not the only one who needs work. They almost all do. Especially the legacy roster.
If they limited the amount of ammo Samus had for her neutral and down b, then I’d feel like I’d be perfect. I would also say remove her special movement mechanic as that seems a bit much. Especially considering she has a side-b which is basically a free way back to the stage. She doesn’t need more imo. But overall, I think this version of her is a lot more healthy for the game
I really hope Samus gets at least a few of these in the next Smash game or all of this as custom moves if they decide to bring that back, which I really want them to.
Quick Note: the up throw is different. At the very least it's a different animation. I don't know about damge, knockback scaling or anything else but there's at least a visual difference.
There’s actually a finishing move from Other M late game where she pins down a creature with her foot before shooting them that is basically just like this animation. I think it’s referencing that more than anything!
This is insanely cool but also like easily the least balanced character I've ever seen which is REALLY saying something I think taking some of the stuff would def work. Flash shift feels best suited as the dodge with the side special being the different missiles (seriously a rapid-fire ice thing is the quickest way to just break the game). Shinespark works better as the grounded up special (akin to how Min-Mins are different in the air and on the ground) with the air version being the grapple, though I also think one of the Emmi moves would work better. I'd also suggest the down special be fairly weak bc while the multi-bomb thing is good it also risks breaking things. Last thing I'd think for this is like the final smash HAS to be the Metroid Suit hyper beam bc like that's such a simple but perfect change
Definitely a step up from Samus’ current moveset. I personally feel Samus is the 64 veteran whose moveset feels the stalest and this really breathes new life into her. Definitely would need some balancing if something like this were to become official. That neutral B looks overpowered as hell.
I hope Samus gets an entire new moveset similar to this mod, for the next smash game. Dread introduced a lot of new mechanics for a fresh moveset and it can separate samus and dark samus, finally making them completely different characters.
The Up Special should have been the Shinespark instead, or at least generating the charge so it can be used as shown in the video. But these moves look pretty neat. Just make Samus turn into Metroid Samus like in Dread for her Final Smash before she fires, and turns back after she's done, and it's perfect.
I Like quite a lot about how this mod looks, if it were possible to mix and match versions there are a few mods Id keep in line with Vanilla, but over all this is pretty great
The neutral B seems too spammy, and it's wild to me her up tilt and dash attack both got changed to be variants of her counter but up smash wasn't the standing counter, but overall this is a great updated moveset. Peresonally I would've left her dash attack as the shoulder tackle and changed up smash to be the counter, and her arm could have either intangibility or invincibility so that it's actually useful as a counter to beat out other moves. The Shinespark is also way too situational, I think it'd be better if her Shinespark was simply her Up-B, and the Speed Booster/Shinespark interaction just allows for ball boosts and makes Up-B faster and/or more powerful.
I absolutely love this. Its unfortunate that Dread came after the release of Smash Ultimate, because it would have been really cool to see some of these move legitimately.
I’ve actually had an idea for a reskinned final smash for Samus since Dread came out: the Omega Blaster. It could be functionally identical (or at least very similar), with the Omega Stream hitting multiple times in succession like the current attack, and the big hit at the end being the Omega Cannon shot.
I think this would be incredibly broken. The 360 degree firing beans and missiles are bad enough, but the speed booster alongside the shine spark is horribly bad. Samus would be impossible to catch.
As much as most characters getting updates to their movesets would be a breath of fresh air, I doubt the original 8 are getting anymore changes after Brawl. I would’ve count all 12 if Luigi didn’t get his poltergeist in Ultimate. Even if they *did* and touched up on the movesets, something like this for Samus would be super annoying to deal with 😂
If (hard "If") there is a new smash bros game coming out later in the future, I really hope they can change movesets for the vast majority of fighters who are still given the same boring movesets from any of the past smash bros games
Imagine if Smash 6 had the reworked movesets of characters as “variations” like in MKX & MK11. Maybe even have the ability to make custom variants. (The original versions of the characters are still the default versions)
good video, though i do have 1 suggestion. when comparing the changes in movesets, have a side by side comparison, instead of one after the other. a change may not be apparent when seen on its own, but be completely obvious when put right next to the previous version.
Outstanding Imagine if they put as much efforts as the DLC roasters in those giod old Smash 64 cast and others. Samus is one of my main preffered negliged characters alongside Sonic.
Now we need Dark Samus with this moveset echoed, with every blast attack poisoning the opponent, Phazon Spikes as her Down Special, and a Phazon Shotgun Blast as her Nair.
I think her Final Smash should be her becoming the Metroid suit and using the red laser beam. Could even add in her scream from Dread when she first changes into it.
Easily the best extra mechanic I love for the next Smash game to implement is her shinespark. That could have easily have been implemented to make her unique and have Dark Samus stand apart. I really hope we get to see a few of these ideas implemented as well!
This is beautiful. My dream for the next smash game is for every character to be broken in their own respected ways that makes their moveset more true to their character.
That neutral special looks busted, no one should get that amount of spamable projectiles with completely free aim. At the very least the energy shots shouldn’t make you flinch like Fox’s blaster, and the missiles should have a larger cooldown.
I honestly don’t like her projectiles. Buffing the spam and nerfing her movement is boring choice. I would have preferred they nerfed the projectiles and gave her more dynamic movement. Canonically it doesn’t make sense either. She can move and shoot at the same time. It’s like a step back and builds a wall between her normal dynamic movement and when they choose to shoot. The thing they got right in ultimate was how they have her better charge shot movement. So this is a step in the wrong direction. Everything else is fine. And I also understand that her ultimate charge shot was overpowered. Which is why I’m saying I’m ok with it being nerfed so long as they balance other parts of her and give better movement. In my minds eye she’s now a zoomy brawler who spams projectiles in certain situations and circumstances. But it should be apart of her pressure tree. Not seperate from it
imma be honest... im not really a fan of this one. We already dont like fighting samus as it is. now imagine fighting a samus that can spam projectiles in full 360 degree motion, at a faster rate. can lay down an absolute minefield of bombs all over the place, and has an immediate dash that can be used up to 3 times and can get back to the stage from the blast zone with way too much ease. let alone allowing her to run away and continue bombarding you with never ending projectiles, Also i think the screw attack was a fine enough up b. its not like thats a dated part of her actual in game kit, she still has it. and she still can use the grapple beam like its used in the series
It could work like Marth/Lucina's where it rushed Forward in a grab, does the energy drain and then ends with the hyper beam (though that feels like it would be too long/overkill)

Definitely a step up from Samus’ current moveset. I personally feel Samus is the 64 veteran whose moveset feels the stalest and this really breathes new life into her. Definitely would need some balancing if something like this were to become official. That neutral B looks overpowered as hell.
Some ideas are incredible, but others are just made without giving it a second thought whatsoever
My main takeaway from this video is that Samus's side smash could be angled in Brawl
Samus plays better in the mod now!
Next Dark Samus should get this treatment
I hope Samus gets an entire new moveset similar to this mod, for the next smash game. Dread introduced a lot of new mechanics for a fresh moveset and it can separate samus and dark samus, finally making them completely different characters.
Looks cool. Idk about balance but it looks interesting. I like the easter egg abilities :)
Samus’ moveset hasn’t been changed since the first game! Needless to say this was badly needed!
Playing with this version of Samus would be such a hard-on.
Vanilla samus, a true zoner
Modded samus, A GOTDAMN BULLY 💀
I can finally freeze the Metroid assist trophy as Samus
good video, though i do have 1 suggestion.
when comparing the changes in movesets, have a side by side comparison, instead of one after the other. a change may not be apparent when seen on its own, but be completely obvious when put right next to the previous version.
I gotta say: This is EVEN better! I like it.👍
The pummel is so badass
Actually turning Samus into a DLC character.
This is how Samus would be if she were a DLC character
Outstanding
Imagine if they put as much efforts as the DLC roasters in those giod old Smash 64 cast and others.
Samus is one of my main preffered negliged characters alongside Sonic.
Her down throw is based on when she kills the Chozo Soldiers in Dread
Now we need Dark Samus with this moveset echoed, with every blast attack poisoning the opponent, Phazon Spikes as her Down Special, and a Phazon Shotgun Blast as her Nair.
My personal opinion is that they should have a new and legacy moveset option next game
Edgeguards with neutral special look insane 🤯🍪
Samus but DLC and Dark Samus keep the OG move kit
I think her Final Smash should be her becoming the Metroid suit and using the red laser beam. Could even add in her scream from Dread when she first changes into it.
side tilt (the standing counter) actually first appeared in Metroid: Samus Returns for the 3DS! 0:50
Most of these are cool. I don't know that I like Up B being changed to Grapple Beam though.
Zero Laser is fine, just needs to gain Metroid Suit.
I really want to see a new moveset for Banjo Kazooie. Something with fire eggs, ice eggs, and grenade eggs
Easily the best extra mechanic I love for the next Smash game to implement is her shinespark. That could have easily have been implemented to make her unique and have Dark Samus stand apart. I really hope we get to see a few of these ideas implemented as well!
Masterful!! Queen of the Metroid universe 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥. Love it!!
I really love your mods, man. The B Special moves were wicked cool🤩
I didn't create the mod. Did you skip intro? 😂
I just went back to the intro. I probably wasn't paying that much attention lol😅
I feel like I would have left the old Fair and replace Bair with what was used for the new Fair
This is beautiful. My dream for the next smash game is for every character to be broken in their own respected ways that makes their moveset more true to their character.
I love this Mod but I think the neutral B would be either hard to control or just too OP
4:01 miss opportunity that the final smash should’ve been her transforming into the Metroid suit
That neutral special looks busted, no one should get that amount of spamable projectiles with completely free aim. At the very least the energy shots shouldn’t make you flinch like Fox’s blaster, and the missiles should have a larger cooldown.
Awesome video!
That is so op for most of Samus’s new move set in this mod. Imagine if anyone were to play this one.
Next smash game has to be a reboot with overhaul movesets for returning characters.
This is really cool and well made!
A cool down for the transitioning and consecutive Neutral-B/special and Down-B/specials would be so nice
But aside from that, solid
2:51 yeah new samus up-B its like ivysaurs
I love the Metroid series, and maybe the Final Smash could be recolored to look more like the Hyper Beam.
"Smash that like button"
Used a special.
Seems legit.
Not seperate from it
Brooo it woulda been the cherry on top if the new final smash was the Hyper Beam seen at the end of Dread
imma be honest... im not really a fan of this one.
We already dont like fighting samus as it is. now imagine fighting a samus that can spam projectiles in full 360 degree motion, at a faster rate. can lay down an absolute minefield of bombs all over the place, and has an immediate dash that can be used up to 3 times and can get back to the stage from the blast zone with way too much ease. let alone allowing her to run away and continue bombarding you with never ending projectiles,
Also i think the screw attack was a fine enough up b. its not like thats a dated part of her actual in game kit, she still has it. and she still can use the grapple beam like its used in the series
I think it’s just the Neutral and Down B/Specials that need a cool down
They essentially have no end lag/cooldown
Those are some awesome looking animations!
Finally good quality from you
Spoilers:
Final Smash should have had her change into the Metroid Suit from the finale.
It could work like Marth/Lucina's where it rushed Forward in a grab, does the energy drain and then ends with the hyper beam (though that feels like it would be too long/overkill)
@@j0j0dartiste21 They'd probably just do it like I described. Much like how they added Lucario and Greninja changing forms because they could.
Honestly I would be fine with just a visual change, as hyper beam is pretty much the only special ability in regular gameplay with the Metroid suit
the next smash should definitely apply the dlc treatment to all the main characters to reflect their modern games
I think it's fine, but maybe change the color of the final smash to red would be best in my opinion.
This is partly why we need a deluxe so many characters got new moves that werent implemented
I would want Shinespark as her Up-B
if... her Screw Attack was her N-Air
Man, Samus was given SO much love to this. Why can't the Smash team do their homework and make her like this?
