You're welcome and thanks for the nice compliment and for studying and subbing to this channel! Please be sure to share it thru social medias and with your class and teachers too...BAM!!!
This is what is so cool about extending my teaching to the Internet. Sure I have a BS in Secondary Math Education, but after teaching high school for 17 years I am now preparing to teach Calculus:) I watch the lectures that come with my book, study the notes, do all the problems in the section and then prepare my own notes. But small nuances can still be missed. Teaching just within the 4 walls of my room restricts my own learning.
Awe...thank you:) I plan on doing more Calculus videos. I have a set of notes ready to go at the moment. But, as the new school year has started I am going to be working on Geometry the most since I am teaching that this year as a new subject. I have never had the chance to teach Calculus in a classroom and have had 17 years to forget it. I relearned the topic for the purpose of making videos for my TH-cam channel...and the fun of refreshing my skills. I am glad you like them!!!
WOW!!! 6 years, that's awesome! You're welcome and thanks for being such a loyal viewer and I hope you've been sharing this channel and your learning success with everyone along the way...if not there is still time to spread the word:D
Professor Tarrou you make life a lot easier for me and all the students i tell to watch your video's, so PLEASE keep posting them. This is way better than Khan Academy!!!!!! and not to mention the Dr.'s and Professors at my college!
I have not looked at the derivation of those two formulas in a long time, and I don't have any spare time at the moment unfortunately. My initial thought would be that it is a coincidence. Teaching four subjects at once this year is taking up all my time! Thank you for watching though:)
I remember back to the time I was studying the life and works of George C. Marshall. I was researching his 9 leadership principles which were listed as; integrity, action, selflessness, candor, preparation, learning and teaching, fairness, vision, and caring.I remember methodically analyzing each of them. Every moment I think of any of these principles, the individuals that always come to my mind other than our nation's fighting men and women, would be our Educators, Instructors, and Professors. I firmly believe these people are the ones shaping our future and making the world a better place.
THANK YOU for that profound comment/compliment HeavyMetalPootis ! As an educator I must agree that those of us who choose this profession these days do it because of our passion for teaching and the opportunity to help mold our future men and women.
I have been watching you channel for almost a year…Your videos have help me out tremendously. I am returning to college at the tender age of 35, majoring in Mathematics, aspiring to teach high school math.
That's AWESOME Paul. If you have found that passion for teaching you will love it I'm sure. The world could use more great teachers and it seems like math teachers can easily find jobs! This is my 19th year and the passion and love of teaching remains...the bureaucracy takes it's toll but you just do what they tell you and not get all caught up in it and move thru it. Don't let it interfere with your love of teaching:) Keep me posted on your progress Paul!
Are you referring to d/dx(f(x)g(x))=f(x)g'(x)+f'(x)g(x) instead of f(x)g'(x)+g(x)f'(x)? I should have wrote that rule exactly like my textbook but thankfully multiplication is commutative so my solutions are correct.
Sounds like you should fire your tutor and just put that money in my "Tip the Teacher" account...lol Thanks for watching and subbing Fama Ann and I hope you will share my channel and your experience with others...word of mouth is our only advertising and channel growth and our new dream is 100,000 subscribers by the end of the year! (as you can see, we dream BIG:)
I am new to this topic. But the way u explained is just awesome. Thank you so much. Your lecture made me to understand the differentiation. This is the 2nd video i am watching and I am watching from India.
+Radhika Pai greetings from Florida and thanks for choosing this channel to watch and learn from! Please take the time to like, subscribe and share this channel with others to help us keep growing:D
MISTA TARROU! I don't have any homework because I'm studying calculus for fun. So as a suggestion, would you happen to know anywhere/recommend someplace where I can find some great example problems to work through? Perhaps looking forward into the future, you could 'assign homework problems' or provide them in your newest videos? You don't have to work through 58 problems of course, but it would be cool to assign some fun problems for us mathaddicts to grind out haha.
hey pro. Rob, so i was asked to find the derivative of f(x)=(1+5x^2)(x-x^2) using product rule, and the multiplication 1st one. So i did; =(1+5x^2)(1-2x) + (10x)(x-x^2) =10x^2-10x^3+1+5x^2-2x-10x^3 =15x^2-20x^3-2x+1 =30x-60x^2-2 multiplication 1st way: =x+5x^3-x^2-5x^3 =x-x^2 =1-2x I checked it over and over, but the online homework program kept saying that my answers are wrong o.o, can you tell me what i did wrong?
In =(1+5x^2)(1-2x) + (10x)(x-x^2) =10x^2-10x^3+1+5x^2-2x-10x^3 =15x^2-20x^3-2x+1 =30x-60x^2-2 you did the derivative (Product Rule) in the first line, so when you took the derivative again in the last line that was incorrect. The answer is 15x^2-20x^3-2x+1 When you did the multiplication 1st x+5x^3-x^2-5x^3 should be x+5x^3-x^2-5x^4, then take the derivative and you have 1-2x+15x^2-20x^3
ProfRobBob oh i see my mistake for the multiplication 1st part. for the doing the derivative twice, i have no idea where i got that from, may be 2nd derivative ? well anyway i put the answer in , and it is correct now . thanks you pro. Rob
thank you so much u definitely help me a lot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! u speak the concepts and show the calculated steps really clear! like u!
You're welcome On Ki Wong Thanks for tuning in and I hope you continue to watch, learn and share your experience and my channel with others and don't forget to like, SUBSCRIBE and spread the word to support these free educational channels!
how about this example? y=(x^3-7x^2)^4(1+9x)^1/2 will you please make video with this kind of problems? This type of equation came out on my quiz last week and it fucked me up! Hahahaha! Thanks Prof you're the best! #BAAAAAM
Howard Abaigar Do you have a Facebook account? If you send me a message through Facebook.com/Profrobbob I can respond with a picture of my work. Thank you for all your support:D
THANKS Howard Abaigar...all you have to do is SUBSCRIBE and I can be your teacher anytime 24/7:) My wife and I would love to visit the Philippines, it is my second largest viewing/subscribing country right now...BAM!!! Did you ever send a copy of your math problem?
Yes sir. I'm about to send my math problem. However we already moved on to HIGHER ORDER DERIVATivES and IMPLICIT DIFFERENTIATION. And again I'm watching ur videos for some help.
Being good at math is one thing but being a great teacher of math is another! Thanks!
You're welcome and thanks for the nice compliment and for studying and subbing to this channel! Please be sure to share it thru social medias and with your class and teachers too...BAM!!!

Oh...yeah. ProfRobBob is a nickname. I only have a BS in Math Education so no need to call me Professor:)
I added a correction to the description of this video and added an annotation to the beginning of the video.

Hey!!! You must be part of the reason Texas is my second best state for viewership:D Thanks.
Your better than my prof and tutor combined !!!!

The derivative of tanx with the respect to x is sec^2x.
the product rule formula resembles a little too closely to the trig formula of sin(a+b). are they in any way connected or just a coincidence?
I am new to this topic. But the way u explained is just awesome. Thank you so much. Your lecture made me to understand the differentiation. This is the 2nd video i am watching and I am watching from India.

how did 4tanx become 4sec^2x
Learned a lot! Thanks!
again...thanks for watching:)
hey pro. Rob, so i was asked to find the derivative of f(x)=(1+5x^2)(x-x^2) using product rule, and the multiplication 1st one.
So i did; =(1+5x^2)(1-2x) + (10x)(x-x^2)
=10x^2-10x^3+1+5x^2-2x-10x^3
=15x^2-20x^3-2x+1
=30x-60x^2-2
multiplication 1st way: =x+5x^3-x^2-5x^3
=x-x^2
=1-2x
I checked it over and over, but the online homework program kept saying that my answers are wrong o.o, can you tell me what i did wrong?
In
=(1+5x^2)(1-2x) + (10x)(x-x^2)
=10x^2-10x^3+1+5x^2-2x-10x^3
=15x^2-20x^3-2x+1
=30x-60x^2-2
you did the derivative (Product Rule) in the first line, so when you took the derivative again in the last line that was incorrect. The answer is 15x^2-20x^3-2x+1
When you did the multiplication 1st x+5x^3-x^2-5x^3 should be x+5x^3-x^2-5x^4, then take the derivative and you have 1-2x+15x^2-20x^3
ProfRobBob
oh i see my mistake for the multiplication 1st part. for the doing the derivative twice, i have no idea where i got that from, may be 2nd derivative ? well anyway i put the answer in , and it is correct now . thanks you pro. Rob
Khue Nguyen
thanks you for replying hella fast
You're welcome Khue Nguyen I'm not able to answer so quickly when school is in session:(
Glad you got it figured out:)
when i am lisning the calculus lecture in uni i cant understand what he says
when i watch your videos then i understand what he says
Thanks for watching, liking, subbing and using my videos as a supplement to your lectures Abdul Rehman !
