Set small goals for yourself and celebrate when you achieve them. I used to procrastinate a lot finishing high school and starting college and that added to my stress tremendously. If I had said to myself September 2011 that I would have to make 370 videos by today I would have never started this channel. I still feel overwhelmed at times working full time and doing TH-cam. Time management is everything and incremental goals. I hope you do great in your studying...and life:)
Thank you...brings a whole new meaning to "break it down!" huh?! I hope you will keep choosing my channel for extra help...and please share it with your friends:D...I appreciate the support!
Mr. Tarrou is amazing at explaining the intuition and the calculation that is mathematics. If you ever wonder why teachers want you to show your work or your steps, it's because math isn't entirely about the answers but about learning to think logically and abstract. Because of Tarrou and my own interests in math I have enjoyed looking at the world more mathematically
Nice lesson, I am going to tell my teacher about you so that he can learn how to first do the math himself and second learn how to teach his new knowledge in a way that we can actually understand. THANK YOU. Keep it up!!!
Why THANK YOU Drew!...Thrilled to be your go-to TH-cam math teacher too:) My goal is to always keep these videos FREE but I need the support of viewers like yourself... In order to continue to groW it is very important to remind viewers to like and SUBSCRIBE and spread the word to others when they find a channel that is helpful. Gaming, beauty and music all have millions of subscribers & I'm sure I can speak for other teachers...we hope to see the same numbers for educational channels soon!!!
What a wonderful compliment Brian Mbui ! Students like you are the reason why we continue to work so hard to groW this channel...so we can help students all over the world find the passion for math! THANK you and your friends for being such great students and taking the time to watch and learn from my channel...this is why I love teaching:) Much appreciation from Florida!
I appreciate you watching and the very nice comment:D Please help me by spreading the word about my math channel and I hope you do great in your class!!!
If y is a function of x then dy/dx is also a function of x, called the first derivative of the function y. d/dx is an "operator" which means it is something that you apply to functions to get new functions. When you apply the operator d/dx to fhe function y you get the function dy/dx, the function which is the first derivative of y.
You Sir are the beauty of the internet! You are my go to for all my math problems! Thank you so much for all the free videos. I really hope you make money from this somehow.
Thanks for choosing my channel to get that extra help from:) And thanks for the offer, but I have the "best wife ever" and we just celebrated our 23rd year together (yes, I was just a baby when we met..lol) I hope you continue to watch and please share my channel with your friends:D
BAM!!! You're welcome...glad I could clear that up for you and thanks for watching #ProfRobBob Please spread the word and remind everyone to SUBSCRIBE to support these FREE educational channels:D
That's great news when math can relate to dessert!!!! Thanks for all the hard work and studying you put in Janice Martyres I wish you were one of my students:)
AWESOME!!! (not sure about the legendary part yet) but we appreciate all the support and sharing we can get...my wife and I work very hard to groW this channel and to keep it FREE for everyone. SUBSCRIBE, like, share, tweet, like on Facebook, share with others, it all helps with the channel growth and our dream to someday have over a million subscribers too!
Mr. Tarrou, I didn't take calculus yet but how do you know the derivative of a function just by eyeballing it? when I looked at your derivative definition video, you went through solving the derivative with a long formula(x+h, I think).
After torturing my students with how to find the derivative using the definition of a derivative, mostly to drive home the idea the derivative is slope, we start learning derivative formulas to speed up the process. th-cam.com/video/Jnqe2_jt8Ac/w-d-xo.html
ProfRobBob so there are quo, pro, chain, and power rules. are there add and subtract rules too? outta curiousity. if so, do u have videos on them? if not, then ignore this last question. thanks. i already subbed you
+Eduardo Charles you're welcome and THANK YOU for choosing my channel to study with and sub to, and taking the time to "thank" the teacher...please tell all your friends and classmates to watch and do the same to help these free educational channels grow and remain free:D
You're welcome! And I will keep posting Nel...and you keep up those awesome study habits and continue to watch and tell others about my channel and help me groW:)
Discovery is can be a very effective way to learn material and as teachers we are encouraged to more of this method of teaching. I don't especially like this way of teaching. After the lecture if there are concepts that were not thoroughly understood, some students get to reinforce their own learning by teaching and helping their fellow students. Teaching can also be very effective way of learning. And of course on a video, I must lecture because there is no interaction...besides comments:)
Prof. Rob Bob, could you explain in simple terms why there are technically 2 functions when you have a polynomial to an nth power? I can't really understand this. At first I thought that the power rule would apply to the whole polynomial as well.
You crack me up with your "bam!". Ha ha. Seriously though, thank you for your videos. They are so helpful in keeping my head above water in my calc class.
for the example: square root of 4-t.....do you have to take the derivative of the inside (4-t) which would be -1 which would also cause the final answer to be negative?? just need some clarity, some of these chain rule problems are tricky
I really really wish you were my calculus teacher :/ my teacher makes us do group work together to figure out problems before actually teaching us how to do them. Then he have the groups "attempt" to explain there reasoning. We then have to answer each and every question in perfect grammatical order or he marks us. I didn't show work for one step on a problem and he took off most of the points even though I ha the right answer :(
Hey, I'm new to your videos. I was going to ask if you respond to personal messages/comments? The reason I ask is because I have a couple math questions that I'm stuck on
I (Mrs Tarrou) reply to most of the general comments but Mr Tarrou teaches full time and is currently working on closed captioning his lessons, with any spare time he has, which sadly leaves no time left for math questions on line...so sorry:( Most teachers at his school offer after school help, you might start there:)

With respect to x means that x is the changing variable you are trying to find the rate of change (or dy/dx) for.
Before I watched the video I was hesitant, but not anymore! Thanks for the clarification!
BAM!!!
You're welcome...glad I could clear that up for you and thanks for watching #ProfRobBob Please spread the word and remind everyone to SUBSCRIBE to support these FREE educational channels:D
I missed this lesson at school but now I feel prepared for my quiz tomorrow. Thank you :)
...thanks for watching more videos...now go pass that quiz like BAM!!!
Thank you, Professor Tarrou!!! This helped SOOO much. Chain rules used to make me cry but now they are a piece of cake!!
That's great news when math can relate to dessert!!!!

Tarrou's Calculus Lesson for 9/10

Did have a video on how to solve by using increment calculus rule
THANKS Shane!
Woohooo....that's what I like to hear! Thanks for subscribing too:)
Because the derivative of the inside function...the base...is not just 1
this video had just solved the misconceptions that I had and now Im sorted, Thanx ProfRob
BAM!!! tronix Davis and thank you for watching, learning and subbing too!
Now that you found me and subscribed you can watch a lesson anytime you feel like learning some more math:) BAM!!!
Love your teaching sir. You have helped me so much :)

Wow, 47 years later, I can still follow this.
Nice job!

In your first example can you foil both products then take the derivative of the polynomial?
You crack me up with your "bam!". Ha ha. Seriously though, thank you for your videos. They are so helpful in keeping my head above water in my calc class.
You're welcome Soho Yankee thanks for watching and don't forget to Like, SUBSCRIBE and share it with everyone...BAM!!!

Awsome prof. Come to the uni of Cape Town, seriously.
LOVE IT ALL THE WAY FROM SINGAPORE
THANKS all the way from FLORIDA for watching and subbing GutsOfAMan !
"Spread the word" :D
thanks Mr. Tarrou!
You're welcome...thanks for watching!
Whats the difference between dy/dx and d/dx?
Fantastic! Extremely helpful!
for the example: square root of 4-t.....do you have to take the derivative of the inside (4-t) which would be -1 which would also cause the final answer to be negative?? just need some clarity, some of these chain rule problems are tricky
Yes, that is why there are red -1's all over that example because I forgot to do that while talking through the example!!! They can be tricky, yes:)
What does it mean when you say "with respect to x?"
got an 87 on my math Exam. Well done!
BAM!!! Abdul Dbz nice work!
thanks dudeee helped me a lot especially the last example!!!!
+TheGeekSoup you're welcome and thanks for watching, liking and subbing too:)
Prof rob bob u r super.
Thanks for watching!
why cant you leave it as 1/2(4-t)^-1/2? why multiply it by u?
Thank you so much! Super helpful.
as usual, you are awesome!
i wish you would replace my calc teacher... this is the only way i understand what im suppose to do
I really really wish you were my calculus teacher :/ my teacher makes us do group work together to figure out problems before actually teaching us how to do them. Then he have the groups "attempt" to explain there reasoning. We then have to answer each and every question in perfect grammatical order or he marks us. hmmm..so that means if its du/dx, u is a function of x...
You're the best!!!
Thanks...please sub and share this free math resource with everyone:D
Bayam I love it man.
THANKS for watching!
thank you very much for this video!
thanks dear teacher
hamdard zabuli you're welcome, as usual:)
Thanks sir for sharing!
...does that mean you figured out your previous question yourself?! :)
BAM! :D
now that makes sense! Thanks!
