You make it look SO easy. You've also helped me out big time - just been trying to cure an oil leak from my output flange (only had the car six months), fitted a new gasket and oil seal but still leaking...I thought it was odd the gasket didn't go as far a the Detent Spring and when I removed the cover there was lots of gasket sealant in that area but NO oil seal... Now I know there should be an oil seal and that obviously why it's been leaking. I'll get one ordered and try again. Thanks!!!

The Philips head screw is 5/16-18 thread and is 2 5/8" long (Mini Mania sells them under 12G1319). The other two bolts on the left are also corse thread 5/16-18 and are 3 3/16" long (only threaded on the last 3/4" of the shank). The other bolt on the bottom right is also coarse thread 5/16-18 and is 1 3/8" long.

The reason is to make sure that there is zero clearance between the differential bearings and the side covers. This is what pre-loads the bearings. And yes, they should be checked each time the covers come off.

Why do we shim the DIFF? Is it to remove any side to side movement of the DIFF assy' in the casing? I need to re-helicoil some damaged threads under my OSF DIFF side cover; I was told it's good practise to check and re-shim the DIFF if I'm removing a cover. Many thanks.

What size bolts go into the bracket that bolts to the speedo housing? The top one is a phillips head screw. What size are the other three?

What is the grey cream you use? I am from Spain and I don't understand you very well. Thanks.

Hi there. Thanks for posting a great series of videos. When you bead blast the casings do you try to avoid the bearing and gasket surfaces and the dowel holes or do you just do the whole lot. If you avoid them do you mask or just try to be carefull.

+Nick Dalton We don't worry about these surfaces as the media blasting is gentle enough not to mar them. However, you must make sure to rinse off the parts with water and dry them completely to remove any trace of media before re-assembly. We also paint the cases (on the outside) with Dupli-color Cast Coat Aluminum paint.
