I feel like over the past few years there has been a massive shift from long form videos to short form videos. The attention span of the internet has changed (decreased) quite a bit over the past 2 years.
Absolutely! On the note of which videos you see/get served: I might not be representative of at least 84% of TH-cam users but I almost exclusively watch via my subscriptions tab and try to keep up to date on pretty much all videos there. I reckon that makes a big chunk of the 14 % average views/subscription but I don't really see how that number isn't higher. Seems to me that using it like that is the only real reason to subscribe 🤔
this is something that I somewhat fear- I watch TH-cam primerily for 'Edu-tainment' learning new things in a passive but entertaining way. I feel short form videos are generally a lot less educational or at the very least are only informative in the 'oh that's cool' but with no depth or nuance on topics. I'll be quite sad if the internet-economics push high quality, accessible, long form, videos from the platform
Although I do prefer short videos like yours (also the bunker and whisper projects) and Jeremy's channel, I also watch long videos (as an example; Andrew Camarata video's are typically 30 to 90 minutes). Interesting content is my compelling reason to watch.
The JerryRig Humvee brought me to your channel and I have been here ever since. I Love you content and always look forward to see what you are tackling next on your build. Thanks again!
@@Halcyonfree customer builds are good to see different conversions and get ideas. The mix of 3 projects at once is hard to follow at times though. I know you wouldn't shoot it in this order but it would be nice if all the series of one car came out in a serial order together.
i think a title like "300zx ev swap: Tesla pump cooling (part8)" etc is a lot more clear and enticing then "installing a tesla pump cooling system in a 300zx" at least for me
Please don't start chasing the algorithm. That leads to the worst kind of content: click-bait titles and thumbnails, cynical sell-out content that you aren't really passionate about, a focus on shorts and awkward collaborations and other trendy crap. That's not the content I want to see, and I've unsubscribed from many channels that made this mistake. Not everyone can be a TH-cam superstar, but you've carved out a niche audience that you shouldn't take for granted. Like you readily admitted during the video, you don't have the over-the-top personality that lends itself to mass audience appeal, and it would be sad to watch you try to be something you're not.
100% agree. The algorithm will always evolve, so chasing that would be like chasing your tail. What WE want is to see your builds and ideas transpire and come to fruition. I think the one story/one project at a time is really transform your channel, if that would be possible. The sense of gratification and motivation is much higher that way for your viewers. Think of it like reading chapter 1 of 10 books, then chapter 2 of those books, etc instead of reading one book cover-to-cover then moving to book 2. Keep at it Jeremy, I'll be here for every new video!
@@jonasplima He would have to increase viewership by an order of magnitude before the ad revenue would make much difference. And even if he managed that, it would still amount to much less than he makes from the sponsored ad reads at the start of each video.
I might not be an avarage viewer but I've been here since the Jerry collab, I mostly watch videos on my subscription feed and haven't missed many videos of you since, love your content and I myself dislike the way the TH-cam algorithm works
I used to love watching you come up with ways to convert your own car, working through the challenges of fitting the new motors and attaching them to the frame along with the electronics. I however tuned out the day you started working on commissions. I understand that money was a major factor in that decision but, as you pointed out, these cars lack a story and it became some more of the same content to me. I had invested hours watching you progress in your own build and suddenly it wasn't your priority anymore and you were asking me to get excited for a new one. I hope you'll find a way to get that precious attention back on your channel as you do have what it takes to have great build videos.
With YT algorithm, there are times I don't see your videos right away because some of my other channels post everyday. Saturating my feed. Some of those channels I've unsubscribed just to prioritize my favorite channels; like yours!
@@Wazaarbazaar I’m subscribed to over 100 channels. There are a several news/political channels that post 6-8 times a day. There are times I go through my list of channels looking for specific ones but it might be a few days after they’re posted. So I repeat the YT algorithm doesn’t always pop his up to the top. Being dumb isn’t the issue it’s trying to get too wide of a spectrum of knowledge.
Hi Jeremy, My twin brother and I had the pleasure of meeting you at your booth at SEMA (we’re the very tall twins). We’re both huge fans (literally) and never miss a video on your channel. What originally drew us to your content was your trailblazing work as an early DIY EV conversion builder, and the fact that you were tackling a ground-up build. Wattson would have been an impressive feat for a shop who has built custom vehicles for decades, but what is most impressive is that it was your very FIRST BUILD! What keeps us coming back, though, is more than just the cars-it’s your constant progress, the educational insights you share, your transparency about challenges, and the way you turn those challenges into lessons. For us, and probably a lot of your fans, the magic isn’t just in the cars themselves but in the journey-the story of the build from start to finish. Personally, I think your strongest content comes when you focus on one project at a time. It makes the narrative easier to follow and gives viewers that rewarding sense of progress, which is super motivating for those of us working on our own projects. Bouncing between multiple builds, while impressive, can sometimes make it harder to feel that same sense of momentum. That said, I know every creator’s situation is different, and you’ve got to balance a lot of moving parts. This isn’t criticism-just some personal insight into what resonates most with fans like us. Your skillset, passion for learning, and ability to consistently create great content set you apart. We really hope you keep pushing through any challenges, because we truly believe you have what it takes to achieve even greater success. You’ve got a loyal community behind you-including us! Keep doing what you’re doing-we’ll be watching and cheering you on every step of the way! Nick & Nate (the Twin Towers)
I came over during the Humvee build. I've taken several lessons from your videos and applied them to some degree in building an electric Formula SAE car at the University of Utah. I'll pass this video on to anyone in the club who may be interested in joining your team.
I personally prefer longer content over shorter. I like seeing human ingenuity at work - problem solving, fabrication, artistry, and cool cars. Way better than short nonsense videos that erode humanity. Please don’t go that route.
That Humvee brought me here and I love your videos. Even, I didn't activate the notification bell, your videos always on the first row of my TH-cam's Home page.
Came over and stayed since the Humvee watching you picking up stuff and just doing it, falling, learning, and not giving up. What I like is your openness, being truthful and sharing it as it is. Yes it's not as flashy as others maybe but keeps me wanting to watch it. Maybe an idea to open a donation thingy where people (us viewers) can help you and us. Good luck!
I got to your channel through Zach Humvee build. I really loved your video electric troubleshooting one of your last customer build. It was totally genuine, wrong parts, wrong diagrams, even manufacturer sometimes did not know what to do. It was very educational and it gave me more value than dozens of 1M subscribed TikTok style TH-camrs competing to get that 30 seconds of young generation attention.
The pure honesty of your channel is the biggest reason I have been following for a few years now, and this video is an exact reflection of this. You have a style, its authenticity, don't change too much.
Totally feel your pain. I have been going back, and forth on whether I am going to keep doing youtube. It takes precious time away from my builds, and for me it is not a business. As always, best of luck!
If I could distill what I like about you/ you're channel 1. Your Positive Attitude - it's very uplifting 2. You're not afraid to try learn/develop your skill set. 3. You're generous with your tips and explanations 4. You're a genuinely nice guy this comes over in all of your videos! I continue to wish you well and onwards and upwards ! 😊
Relatable thoughts! I do think there is a road to finding that core audience and it might take a while if you change styles etc. I see my TV viewers go up steadily which means that they probably don’t watch as much shorts so I hope to attract more of them. Great video! I do have an advice tho, employing another person might not result in getting more done, it will definitely result in more work for you (planning, guiding and helping) and is also a risk in case it doesn’t work out between you. I know the feeling of needing someone more than your self but I think hiring other/partner companies for specific tasks is much better. Just a friendly advice. Keep up the good work
Jerrys humvee fix is why im here. And rich rebuilds cant put out vireos to save his channel. Dont chase the algo. Get sponsor or investor or ignore. Its your choice. Dont clout chase and dont algo chase it doesnt work longterm. You have a unique personality. You do what works for you. It will work out.
I've always been a big fan of you and your channel! I wish I had a big bag of money to sponsor cool car builds utilizing your great talents, skills, and adaptability. You totally deserve every success!
The only big complaint, and more of a constructive feedback, for me has been sponsor blocks. In the build space many creators don't front roll their sponsors. Instead, they might do an ad read or sponsor segment during a timelapse or busy work; in most cases using picture-in-picture. I think that could be integrated in that manner very well with your line of videos. And as Jerry said in his comment, as much as I, personally, like long form content, I think the trend is shorter videos. ~10-15 minutes is probably good for most people, but does come with the draw back of cutting down some of the timelapses, which some of us really enjoy. All of this really takes experimentation.
I definitely agree with this feedback. It’s hard to make a sponsor segment interesting, but some channels make that work (notably Evan and Katelyn). Other channels find a way to show interesting content during an ad read, or try to do something interesting with the product itself (like this video or Ambition Strikes). Of all of these options, I prefer the PIP timelapse idea. Also, I’ve been subscribed since the first build. I mean a K1 Attack with a Tesla motor was just too good to not watch. But I have a hard time clicking on videos over 10 minutes. They’re just hard to fit in timewise and Zack is right about attention span. And I’d rather watch 2-3 videos over lunch if I can.
Your Porsche is your best investment. Porsches have helped many channels grow. The more videos you put towards that the better your channel will be. Finish the cayman and get a cheap 911 to convert and you will grow.
JerryRig brought me here and I subscribed out of support. I’ll be frank I’m not super into cars and that’s why I don’t watch a lot of your videos. I wish you luck on your endeavours and if I see something unique from you that peaks my interest I’ll probably watch. Keep doing what you love, regardless of the algorithm.
I'm a recent subscriber and may not be the best person to ask. But here is what I have enjoyed from the channel: 1) watching you build Watson 2) upgrading Watson with a 3d printed diffuser. 3) converting the gas Jeep Cherokee to electric.
I'm one of those subs that came from the Humvee build and to be honest, I haven't been back to that guys channel in a long time nor have I seen much from your channel. I spend a lot of my watch minutes over at Squatch253's channel. (Edit: I'm a paid subscriber there) He restores vintage antique tractors which, on it's own, isn't why I spend my watch minutes there. It has to do with how he puts his content together and the general 'flavor' of it. He's a very detail oriented professional and he brings you along for the process for whatever he's doing, in vids that usually run around 20 to 25 minutes. I'd suggest browsing some of his Cat D2 or Farmall restoration vids just to get another angle on what makes good content. He has a smaller channel, but it looks like he gets a larger margin of views and his watch minutes are pretty good most of the time as I understand it. There are a few other successful professional channels you might want to poke at that have the same feel to them - Abom79, VintageMachinery, and Cutting Edge Engineering.
I know exactly what you're talking about. I started my channel as just a storage dump for my solar installation. Apparently there's enough crazy people out there who want to follow along, but I still struggle like you to find that balance where views are up. You can't help but get a little frustrated when you put so much time and effort into a project and then it seems to flop because no one's watching it. You're not alone! Just keep it up!
Jeremy, really appreciate the information here. I was doing Patreon with you and had to stop due to financial pressures myself, hoping to renew sometime in the future. I think the prize car build is a great idea, I hope it comes to fruition. We just lost our golden retriever to cancer last Saturday, we miss Dowdy so much! We know you get it. We're looking at getting goldendoodle puppy for Christmas, so we're looking forward to that.
Jerry brought me here never left since. The thing I like the most in your videos is when you are describing explaining something. We want to learn new things not just see you work for the ASMR.
i love the builds, i understand that yes, it’s not a big name car from someone or from a disaster. i just enjoy watching the process. i find it fascinating and cool. i’d love to actually learn and do this myself, so seeing these videos inspires me.
I came from JerryRig's Hummer as well and found the premise of your channel really interesting. You have some really lofty goals and your dedication is super impressive. However, I find your projects get lost because you move from one to the other. I think someone already said this, but releasing the project videos sequentially each week would be helpful, even if you don't film them in that order. There is so much more buy in when you can watch progress each week and then see the final product before starting a new project. I need the closure! haha I saw you start the Hilux, and was shocked because I don't really know what happened to the Porsche, or the other projects you were working on. And yes, TH-cam's algorithm doesn't help either as I probably miss your videos and have to go back and fill in the gaps myself as well. Keep on keeping on!
The key is to make a TH-cam video interesting in the first 10-20 seconds; if it doesn’t hook viewers, retention rates drop significantly. Studies also prooven that shorter videos (under 10 minutes) tend to have better retention. Mobile viewers, especially younger audiences influenced by TikTok and Shorts have even shorter attention spans. Videos that are fast-paced, visually dynamic, and include storytelling or humor are what keep viewers engaged.
@ElectricSuperCar Jeremy can you post the longer videos but edit the same video for Shorts to engage the viewers who prefer the shorter videos. Just a suggestion
RRC restoration is still growing. Watch his vids, you could definitely do his style of vid. I think they're the best on TH-cam. I love your Porsche Cayman build.
I’m not real sure why, but I enjoy watching all your vids in the format you currently use. I do like the idea of the cars having a story. And I like the technical troubleshooting parts.
I definitely came after seeing the electric Humvee build, but have watched everything since! I am in the SLC area, but am not mechanically inclined, so no leads there! I'll keep watching
Just do you. Don’t worry about what other people are doing and don’t copy anyone’s style. I personally like longer videos but I might be in the minority. Your story is interesting.
You have a great educational channel that I turn to as reference. For an entertaining channel make a go cart test rig to compare parts and equipment. Pushing limits of what we don't know is what turns heads
Been here since the Hummer collab! I really appreciate the work you put into these videos! Keep it up! The following is my opinion and I’m in no way a content creator, so grain of salt; I’ll say what’s below with good intentions; and I still want to see more from you. I won’t even pretend to know the solution to your issues, but I thought I should at least give my 2c. The Hummer content was interesting. It also helped to keep people engaged because it tied to Zack’s content. It was like a Marvel spinoff. You could ride his wave. After that, the Porsche project kept me subscribed and wanting for more. I like Porsches, and haven’t seen anybody convert a modern Porsche. Very cool idea and I’m super interested in seeing where that goes. Would love longer videos on that one with more progress in each video. The side builds are interesting because they’re also conversions I haven’t seen around. They have a great potential of being a treasure trove of cool facts, interesting solutions and unexpected outcomes. But often enough, those are not why we’re here. We wanna see your projects. The ones where you get to exercise your creativity. This more “mechanical” and “pay the bill” work can get shorter and more focused videos. If there’s something reeeeally cool then that can get a longer video. Another thing that often makes me fast forward or skip through parts of your videos ends up being that a lot of times the pacing feels flat and progress feels slow. i understand there’s only so much one can do in a set timeframe, but more Mat Armstrong and less Tavarish would be nice. (This is why Tavarish’s videos have been boring to me. So much rehashing and little actual progress). Wishing you the best! Keep going! Don’t give up!
A few thoughts. 1. Loved the blue car you were building for a long time. I joined over from your JerryRigEverything collab and watched regularly for a while after that. 2. I don't see your videos pop up in my feed very often, but this one did. I think youtube like to push "drama" type content and your title fits that description imo. Or, I see zack commented on this video, that might have also played a large role in the video being pushed. 3. I do not have the bell on for any channel, I get bombarded with enough notifications as it is. I am not sure other people are like me but its possible that could be a reason that users with the bell are lower. 4. I think more short form content would sell. 5. You could technically lie and tell a story for every build. But I would understand why that might not be something you would want to do. 6. I really hope your new plan works, you seem like a genuine person and I want you to succeed. All the best!
Dilution. Fighting for smaller and smaller slices of pie. All forms of media (games, music, etc) are experiencing it rn. It's a function of the democratization of creation - if anyone can make content, lots will, resulting in a tsunami of crap. Discovery becomes really hard. With so many choices, all of them seeing only tiny or no returns, investors stop investing because it's too hard to turn a reliable profit, capitalization flees. 🤷♂️
I like your style and what you show of your personality, which is what brought me from Zack to your channel. I really hope you can continue doing what you do without having to change that much. I wish you success!
I came here after seeing the jerry rig humve project. I like watching the channel and look for it every week. Im not a mechanic. However, when I was young, I had my electrical cert. In michigan and worked at JCPenney Auto Center. 40 years agoish. I still do as much of my own as I can. Keep up the great videos.
The custom car is what I was searching for an algorithm found you so I stuck around watched you build Watson so now you’re in my list so I watch your videos every time they come up. I hope that others will do the same for mine. B&S restoration builder creator got me started doing my own videos. Keep up the great work I’ll keep watching.👍🏻
I discovered your Channel because of the Electric humvee , I really enjoy watching your videos even though I don’t know anything about cars or things you talk about. But you make it very interesting to listen and learning things about cars
Something I've seen one of my youtubers I follow do, is he has a pinned comment at the bottom of the video and asks everyone to comment what they're playing this week. This gives them helpful feedback in their comments about what people are doing and how to tailor their videos to the audience. Maybe that could be helpful for you to have a pinned comment about what people want to see next or input to affect what you do. Maybe community votes on what part to tackle and which design. I know you have had a vote before about which car to take on, for my part I really like to watch your videos about the Porsche or like a "dream car" situation if that makes sense. I have noticed some repetition in your videos which I don't know if it's avoidable or not, but I feel like several of the last videos were 3D print, plastic weld pieces together, body filler, put it in. Which was cool, but I just saw that with the Porsche? I would get excited to see, hey we're doing the electronics for the movement on the body parts on the Porsche, or lights on the Porsche, something to change up what I feel like have been the theme of the last few videos. Again, I really like seeing your Porsche videos haha. I'm mostly trying to rack my brain for reasons and maybe I'm off here, but I hope it helps? I love your channel and your videos so keep it up and don't get discouraged! I think it's awesome you made this video explaining and trying to get some feedback. In software development one of our principals in the application life cycle is we are always getting the product (no matter how broken or unready) to the product owner to review and look at and get feedback on the direction they want the team to move with. This way you aren't doing thousands of hours of work on something they ultimately don't like, but there's consistent input from them throughout the process. Again, thanks for the videos! Hope this helps
Your channel has realistic builds, which is like videos back in the day. Really inspirational. I watch your videos. I am busy and I can't watch them right away but I do watch your videos and I understand the amount of work that goes behind it. My cars took tremendous amount of money and effort to be successful. Do not compare your channel to channels with 50 employees. Keep your videos realistic with B is for build sharing of struggles, with realistic positivity of Superfastmatt. I wish you success. -Michael from Oregon
I loved watching your supercar build. I was curious about building an ev so that was exciting as a "How could I do this" almost tutorial videos for me. Now that you've built the majority of that and I'm not building an ev, I tend to not watch your videos. I do see them in my subscriptions. I've been watching Bill Carlson's build and he has some really long videos I've watched so for me it's not the length that's a hindrance but what I just happen to be interested in. Just some more data points from one of your viewers. I hope you can find a path to profitability and keep doing what you love! :D
The humvee video brought me to your channel, and I loved your channel ever since. I really like your honest style, not super high production, just a guy in his garage, as a hobby. I really resonate with that. It is a shame it is not the thing that the algorithm likes too
Zack's Whisper Project brought me to your channel, but your style of doing things kept me engaged, and I really liked some of the ideas you used to simplify your processes, and that is what hooked me into staying. The algorithms YT uses are shifty, like sand, and they are always experimenting with new ways of drawing attention to the new topics. I purposely wanted to see your progress on the Porche and how your hobby-turned-job was going, but needed to hunt your videos down, which I obviously have been doing. I agree we, as viewers, need to help by going to our favourite channels, but YT is also flooding all of these AI related posts onto the suggestions. Zack is partially correct, the younger viewers are only interested in short form videos, but the suggestions algorithms are also getting out of hand. I see perhaps 2, sometimes 3, of my actual subscribed and similar to videos on my feed, the rest is honestly clickbait for stories stolen from Reddit and tagged as AI, because of the images used. And some of the things are 2 and 3 years old as well. The trends towards Tik Tok style videos is fine for some, but there are a lot of people looking for DIY and how-to videos, and I am particularly fond of your channel, Jeremy, and Zack, because they always have relevant and useful information. I am going to make sure that bell icon is always active for my must haves, like you and Zack. Because that at least guarantees I will know when to come for the next video. I actually follow SpaceX, and had to find their live feed of their 6th test flight by manually looking for it. That is trending, in my opinion, but we have to look for it? Keep up the great work, and, as fans, we will do our best to keep you hyped. I keep commenting and sharing to help boost you as well.
Jeremy, the only suggestion / observation I have to offer may be difficult to implement: The flow of videos on the channel seems to be like "this is what I'm working on today". Whereas continuity of storyline might help engage the audience. i.e. an end to end series of videos on one build coming out as a series. Obviously that is difficult because you have to wait for parts, etc.
I watched ever single one of your videos and i dont have the bell turned on. TH-cam knows i like you and you always pop up first when you post.. maybe im one of thosefirst 1k viewers?
I'm subscribed to your channel, but very similar to what you described I haven't had one of your videos appear in the first 4 pages of my TH-cam recommendations in a couple months. For whatever reason, the algorithm hasn't felt you were a good match....but now it has for this video? I will admit, I'm a long-time subscriber to a few other channels where they diagnose and repair automotive things and they seem to have shifted from 30-40 minute videos to long-form...80 or 90 minutes. I'm not often clicking to start a 90 minute video. For me, that 30-40 minutes is about the longest I can expect to be uninterrupted and so that's usually my sweet spot for length. I wish you the best, I'll continue to watch your content - you do interesting work.
Hi! Got to your TH-cam Channel a while ago looking for Electric Car stuff {As I was working for NYCT Subways and have been hooked since. I also am into 'Formula E Series" and went to the 1 & 2 seasons when they where in NYC as a Race worker, but anyway. ever since that big trip-up with 'You Tubes' algorithm everything has been a big mess. I don't even get my notifications like should.. You keep plugin away and I will keep watch and tracking you on you uploads.😃😃😃
I have no idea if this will be helpful or if I’m a typical viewer for you but what I value in this channel above all else is the technical content. - all your troubleshooting videos I’ve watched start to end - anything around battery box construction I’ll at least grab highlights - anything about products that make conversions possible (for example a Tesla drop in board) and an honest overview of integration steps/headaches I’ll watch end to end - anything lessons learned related I’ll watch end to end Any content that’s more similar to driving impressions, detailing, body work, business, accessories, etc I’d either pass or skim through because that type of content is everywhere from entertaining journalist types. Not that you can’t also be that or shouldn’t try, it’s just not currently why I’m a subscriber For me, your unique selling point is no nonsense, technically competent, sufficiently detailed EV integration from a grassroots perspective (in terms of financial and time commitment). Efforts to be “entertaining” or “game the algorithm” I don’t value myself, though naming a video “integration hell” and having some teaser images in the thumbnail certainly helps. Good luck!
I've been watched consistently since the Humvee collab. I like the projects you take on, and I like your attitude and that you're always learning, trying new stuff. Your range of skills and the ability to use technology to improve your workflow is really impressive and inspiring. I agree that the biggest killer is the amount of time available, and who has the most interesting or engaging content when I have time to watch. My biggest turn-off is how long your sponsor spots seem to take - much longer than other creators I also watch, and I end up skipping past them or go to another video entirely because the sponsor is not why I've clicked. I like the longer form videos though - don't give up on them and go for clickbait.
The other day I saw a channel commenting how thumbnails were important for the algorithm (Rhett Shull). Now, I don't know if it is true or not, but one thing I did notice (especially after comparing yours to Salvage to Savage) was the lack of identity in thumbnails. Yours are, sorry to say, somewhat busy and all over the place. As an example, when this video popped into my timeline, I had to look at the channel's name to check who it was from. I also understand sponsors and ads are important. But having a 2-minute ad at the beginning of almost every video is somewhat disrupting. Speaking for myself, I am here to see a build process and transformation. I could not care less about electric stuff. Scooters, chargers or even vehicles. I'm here for cars, not electric stuff. Perhaps that is the gap between the channels you mentioned and yours. Sorry if I sound harsh, just trying to help
I'm a long-time subscriber to your channel and am routing for your success! One small suggestion is to come up with a more recognizable thumbnail for your videos. I sometimes find it difficult to know it's you without reading the fine print. 😊
i really enjoy your educational style of videos!! not that i would be building any cars anytime soon but its really entertaining for me. since JerryRig Humvee build brought me here, your channel has been one of the few channels that I would always watch when a new video arrives. keep up the good work!! will definitely join patreon when i'm finally working (p.s. not sure if it was intentional but i notice the nightcore background music in the past 😆)
I watch every single one of Your videos since I did find Your channel from Zack. I do not really care about the history of the car, I watch MA but do not care where he gets his wrecks from. In his case I enjoy the father & son builds and the crazy good outros after he finishes a build (his dad is more entertaining than Mat himself though LOL) :) In Your case, I love electric cars and I am interested in how they work. You are explaining everything very clear, and the attention to detail in every one of Your build is just crazy. Just keep doing what You are doing, You are awesome!
Been here since Jerry's truck, UK based, really enjoyed the content since for the most part, would love more done on the Porsche, but I understand you gotta put bread on the table. You have a point about the story value, it's what draws people in, and you do have a story for a lot of your projects, and a compelling one - the MG had a story, the 4x4 has a story (and you told that story on the 1st episode), and so forth, what Mat and Tavarish do is retell the story, and never assume the viewer has watched right from episode 1, to pull new audiences in. I wasn't that interested in the SEMA content, but enjoyed the 4x4 conversion. Breaking down the content to smaller chunks would be good, between 7-15 minutes, but more regularly - however, if that aint possible - I'm happy to lap up any and all content!
I came for the Humvee, stayed for the struggle. You are correct in that stories and narratives are the key to TH-cam. Your struggle as a business owner is a good story, plus you get to build a business that can support you and your family. Every car has a story, maybe get some help with the story telling. Investors and selling cars really not a youtube thing, for me anyway. I'd like to see you grow your shop, get some employees.
I think your comment of the story. Storytelling is interesting. The ups and downs and when I walk away I learned something. 1,000 true fans. Is your content something I might return to because I wanted to see how you did some procedure?
most of the channels I subscribe to post maybe 1 vid a week if not more like 1-2 vids a month. I do prefer longer form content myself (listen while I am wfh) but I also understand i'm not the part of the audience you are talking about. videos I usually prefer are 20+ min (30-45min) for most vlog style possibly going up to an hour ish. and some other more info heavy/podcast type videos can be 1 hour to ~3ish hours long. that's what I usual gravitate towards (anything longer than 3hours and I prob can't finish it in one sitting lol)
To add, I will also say I "actively" dislike channels that spam their vids cause I use my sub tab to find vids and if it's cluttering everything then they are more of a hindrance than helpful.
I've been watching your playlist for the k1 I'm eventually going to change my el Camino to an e camino. Still in the planning stage, budget just isn't there yet. So I've been watching any semi step by step ev conversations. I like your style. It seems obtainable. Unlike a lot of the other builds using fancy tools and equipment. I realize I'm probably in the minority. I wish you were closer to me so I could give you a hand whenever you need it. I'm good at helping others with their projects not so good at doing my own. I will be emailing you to see how I can help.
Have you ever consider the massive influence that other platforms has on this, or the fact that if you have more than 4-5 channels to follow, a user end up being busy with YT for almost 2 hours every day, not considering the influence of reels, on this platform or other? All of this in these days when consciousness on the time spent with smart phones and digital devices is increasing our dependence, that latter we have to fight with. I wish you all best of luck 🤞, and keep pushing.
I access YT from my subscriptions page so I don't have to filter through the garbage when I sit down to watch. I'll venture off to the HOME page here and there and occasionally find something I like or something new.
I actually discovered Jerry Rid Everything through your channel! LOL. Love your content - hope you can make it work financially. For me, its because one day I hope to do an EV conversion of my own.
There's definitely a shift in TH-cam that's impacting your channel. That said, I think a shift in the car modding community is having a larger impact. A lot of people watch this stuff in an aspirational way and dream of having a very cool build one day. I think people feel like their hobby spending is cut down from what it used to be and the last few years have seen cars basically out price every young enthusiast. The younger folks I see still pursuing the hobby are forced into relatively lame cars and they get mocked in public for it. I think the hobby just doesn't have the same appeal. I believe there's some hope that electric cars may finally change this, especially with green movements being popular among younger folks. We're gonna need smaller and cheaper electric cars to appear more, and right now companies are packing the few cars in that space with a lot of niche features that make prices very high.
Honestly people like you and Rob Dahm who provide useful actual information and do some pretty amazing stuff are criminally underrated by TH-cam. All because you guys talk too calmly to the camera. I often leave the crappier videos to play in the background while I'll save videos like yours to watch more intently. I think the algo penalizes that.
FYI, I watch everything. I like making stuff with my hands, and through these videos, I've learned to be more creative and adventurous. The reality is, not everything you post will appeal to everyone. For example, I find the videos practical. Someone else may find it entertaining. Another educational....etc. I honestly feel that with a touch of all, the appeal will grow, and with time, the numbers. Everyone is different, that's why there's variety in everything; food, colours, sounds, etc. Someone once said, "if a blacksmith could shape metal with one blow, everyone else would be able to do the same. However, it is only through repeated strokes from the hammer and the metal going in and out of the fire that it gets the desired shape. "....Keep at it and allow things to take shape!
I’m going to be honest. It’s a little uncomfortable delivering this message to someone’s who projects are some of my favorites on TH-cam. But here is the tough truth. It’s not enough to have just interesting projects when there are “interesting people” that also have their own interesting projects on TH-cam. Your wife and children certainly knows a different side of you that we haven’t seen on TH-cam. Show it.
The problem is that the algorithm will never send you to a video from someone you subscribe to, they send you to videos on channels that are similar to your subscribers
Mate, I love your channel. I personally prefer that you never sensationalise your subject matter or click bait things. I'm comfortable with your in video sponsored advertising as you need to make this pay as much as fundamentally possible. My preferred approach to TH-cam viewing is continual learning. Mike Patey and Home Built by Jeff get my attention for example. Your channel grabs my attention to that Same extent. My view is that there is candy entertainment , I place the famous car or ridiculous vehicle builds in this category. Then there is the thinking person's approach - your channel plays very well in this space. To my mind the channel that successfully straddles both approaches is Colin Furze(and Binky prior to that when they were more active on that incredible Mini). This next bit is not entirely relevant but perhaps pertinent for your viewer statistics. I am an engineer, military, Aviation, Strategic Project management and procurement, middle aged Australian male. There's a very real chance that based on my reasonably specialised profile that I was always going to prefer the continuing education approach Vs cheasy sensationalism. My two cents worth and I hope it is of use to you.
I feel like over the past few years there has been a massive shift from long form videos to short form videos. The attention span of the internet has changed (decreased) quite a bit over the past 2 years.
bad job, google
@@jamesgregsy Same here lol. Ive blocked frontpage
this is something that I somewhat fear- I watch TH-cam primerily for 'Edu-tainment' learning new things in a passive but entertaining way.

Your customer builds are interesting but I want to see YOUR Porsche build.
noted
Yes the Porsche build is so cool it deserves to be finished!
Unfortunately if you don't follow the algorithm he can't get money.
@@jonasplima He would have to increase viewership by an order of magnitude before the ad revenue would make much difference. And even if he managed that, it would still amount to much less than he makes from the sponsored ad reads at the start of each video.
If you don’t follow the algorithm, then you’re just doing it for the heck of it, and then you can’t really afford to do cool builds.
I might not be an avarage viewer but I've been here since the Jerry collab, I mostly watch videos on my subscription feed and haven't missed many videos of you since, love your content and I myself dislike the way the TH-cam algorithm works
I also use my subscription feed for my video selection all the time, otherwise I don't see many of the videos I actually am here to watch!
I second this also I pay for TH-cam
Yeah. I have to do that periodic clean up too. It sucks that there isn't a subbed line at the top like they do for the Android TV apps.
Good to know
Thats just plain old being dumb.. just once a while check for vids
Hi Jeremy,
My twin brother and I had the pleasure of meeting you at your booth at SEMA (we’re the very tall twins).
Thanks Friend!
I second everything above! Jeremy excited about your future content!! 🔥
I prefer long format as well.
I enjoy the builds. I usually check in once a week. Keep building and I'll keep watching.
I've always been a big fan of you and your channel! I wish I had a big bag of money to sponsor cool car builds utilizing your great talents, skills, and adaptability. You totally deserve every success!
I appreciate that!
All of this really takes experimentation.
good to know
I definitely agree with this feedback.
Thanks for the comment
we're all here with you Jeremy. we'll get through this.
Thanks friend!
I need the closure! haha
I saw you start the Hilux, and was shocked because I don't really know what happened to the Porsche, or the other projects you were working on. And yes, TH-cam's algorithm doesn't help either as I probably miss your videos and have to go back and fill in the gaps myself as well.
Keep on keeping on!
Investors...man not a great idea.
Commenting just for the algorithm. I watch every video man. I hope you can keep it up.
I appreciate it!
Videos that are fast-paced, visually dynamic, and include storytelling or humor are what keep viewers engaged.
noted
@ElectricSuperCar Jeremy can you post the longer videos but edit the same video for Shorts to engage the viewers who prefer the shorter videos. Just a suggestion
Stories build worlds. Inspiring words aside, this is the first of your videos that TH-cam has recommended to me since the Humvee build series.
Subscriber and Notified since the Humvee project. I try not to miss your videos as they are interesting. Hoping the algorithm changes in your favor.
Good luck, you have fantastic ideas and I hope they come through!
Just do you. Don’t worry about what other people are doing and don’t copy anyone’s style. I personally like longer videos but I might be in the minority. Your story is interesting.
Agreed 👍
Thanks friend!
I love watching g your videos. They are quite informative and teach me a lot about electric conversion.
I legitimately haven't been served your videos in over 2 or 3 months while be subscribed
Interesting 🤔
Hadn’t seen anything for a while but will be checking my subscription list for new content!
You make amazing content! Definitely would love to see more of the Porsche build!

👉Don't compare yourself to others👈
It's YOU against past YOU 😎
Thank you for the reminder to check the bell icon, I had no idea mine was not set!
Never give up! Your videos are amazing and you are one hell of a talented guy! Love from Nagaland, India.❤
I discovered your Channel because of the Electric humvee , I really enjoy watching your videos even though I don’t know anything about cars or things you talk about. But you make it very interesting to listen and learning things about cars
Awesome, thank you!
I watch all your vids. I like the level of detail and explanation of the ev builds.
I think you need feedback from those who are not watching this!
Thanks Friend!
Nice!
Your knowledge on EV's brings me to your channel. I love your Porsche build also.
Awesome, thank you!
So I subscribed and have the notifications bell set to all. This is the first time you have shown up since in my list since Zack. Hmmm
Interesting 🤔
Customer builds and your own builds are the way to go 👍🏻
I have no idea if this will be helpful or if I’m a typical viewer for you but what I value in this channel above all else is the technical content.
- all your troubleshooting videos I’ve watched start to end
- anything around battery box construction I’ll at least grab highlights
- anything about products that make conversions possible (for example a Tesla drop in board) and an honest overview of integration steps/headaches I’ll watch end to end
- anything lessons learned related I’ll watch end to end
Any content that’s more similar to driving impressions, detailing, body work, business, accessories, etc I’d either pass or skim through because that type of content is everywhere from entertaining journalist types. Not that you can’t also be that or shouldn’t try, it’s just not currently why I’m a subscriber
For me, your unique selling point is no nonsense, technically competent, sufficiently detailed EV integration from a grassroots perspective (in terms of financial and time commitment).
I really enjoy your videos... especially when you start descending into madness (lol). but definitely one of my favorite auto channels.
Like others I was drawn to your Channel via Jerry Rig Everything. I have really enjoyed the content and I hope you keep it going. Good luck.
Awesome, thank you!
Today can't say awesome 😞😞😞
I believe in your consistency and perfection 😇😇😇
You are doing great ✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻
Best wishes and best luck💐💐💐
Keep it up 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
I'm a long-time subscriber to your channel and am routing for your success!
One small suggestion is to come up with a more recognizable thumbnail for your videos. I sometimes find it difficult to know it's you without reading the fine print. 😊
I love your builds. I've been waiting for updates on the gtE.... And the Nissan.
More to come!
i really enjoy your educational style of videos!! not that i would be building any cars anytime soon but its really entertaining for me. since JerryRig Humvee build brought me here, your channel has been one of the few channels that I would always watch when a new video arrives. keep up the good work!! will definitely join patreon when i'm finally working
(p.s. not sure if it was intentional but i notice the nightcore background music in the past 😆)
👍
Please keep telling the story of the Porsche. I'm super invested in that one. I'm one of the ones who came over from JerryRigEverything
Thanks for the comment
You're a good one. Keep strong!
Thank you, I will
Also I can’t wait to see the your Porsche build I know you need the money to keep it going that why I been patience 😅
Breaking down the content to smaller chunks would be good, between 7-15 minutes, but more regularly - however, if that aint possible - I'm happy to lap up any and all content!
thanks for the insights
Always enjoy your content but had never clicked the bell, until today.
I appreciate that!
I can't wait to see wait to see what the new build will be.
Like you mentioned, it's the most outrageous crazy builds that gets the most views. Maybe do another kit race car but with hybrid drivetrain.
I actually discovered Jerry Rid Everything through your channel! LOL. Love your content - hope you can make it work financially. For me, its because one day I hope to do an EV conversion of my own.
I hope so too!
This is the first time i have seen your channel. It was pushed threw to me for some reason. Seems like you do cool stuff.
Welcome aboard!
Show it.
Noted
