@@Smartzenegger You did incredible work with the custom models in the computer store, and the 3dfx car, etc. When rp_downtown_v2 got really popular I was sad to see the old maps fall out of popularity, the work you guys did filling in the world was way better than the empty rooms and desolate maps that would replace them.
I remember an old scp server I use to play on a few years back had ovis city merged with it once you escaped the facility and reached the surface. I'll never forget when me and a bunch of people were in the pizza shop and scp-173 pulled up and we had to evacuate and haul ass. Probably one of the funniest experiences I've had on gmod

That's it! I instantly recognized that Ovis City area that is shown in the first clip of it in the video, and it was from an SCP server as well
@@megafro6999 i used to "legally" slow down the server to a crawl by buying one of the buildings and just decorating the shit out of it with props, and no one could do anything
Honestly I'd love to see this turn into a series but not only for darkrp. Imo there were some good maps for other gamemodes.

There was more than a few absolutely beautiful RP maps for The Specialists that have all been lost to time due to forums shutting down. The cyberpunk ones had so much shit to explore even if you didn't care about RP.

Werwolf´s SCP map does have Ovis City on the surface! Once you escape/exit the facility you end up in the subway. Due to the devs mostly focusing on the SCP stuff, Ovis City seldom sees more than a few citizens and sometimes a reporter :( But people usually make the most of it, since the admin mostly hangs around in the facility.

I'm the server owner:) Yes, though we plan to bring back some surface focused RP in the new map update soon :) Elements of ovis will be used but we are going much more custom this time.

Memories of an easier time. I had no idea it was so cozy, though. Wish I was able to be there in those days when it was packed.

The SCP map merged with Ovis City isn't a "fever dream", it's real. Well.. It was, I don't know what happened to it, but I remember clearly playing it years ago, it was wild.
I used to play Amsterville quite a lot with friends when we did Gmod nights together.
Its really cool to see it get covered here!
Surprised to see how old this map is, the brushwork and design makes it feel very modern, amazing work on the creator's part.

I remember back in 2015 where I lead a server wide rebellion against the admins faction on a dark rp server. It was called slave rp and we named our faction Hydra, we then got a bunch of gun dealers and rebels to join us with moonshiners as a source of income. We raided the bank and even the military base and got alot of money. Then the admins kept attacking us and using admin only weapons and so we got VIP players to join as mercenarys and VIP gun dealers and armed ourself for war that lasted for about 5 hours. We then went to a "summit" and brokered a peace treaty where we ended up with a crap ton of money and I got VIP for 6 months. Good memories.

I first played a zombie survival version of Amsterville. It's kinda weird seeing it in daylight
Good lord did that get cancerous at times. Some of the building designs made that map pure pain in zs.
As a Dutch 17 year old i approve of Amsterville. Its a really nicely made map

Amserville still looks absolutely great and if it released today, I doubt you’d be able to tell the difference between it and a modern Garry’s Mod map.
Yeah I used to “collect” rp maps for a lack of a better term and didn’t play on many maps multiplayer only single player. I have memories of exploring ALOT of them, mostly hl2 styled city (insert number here) type maps and the endless amount of versions of downtown.

I'd definitely love another video like this, i never had the chance to try these on it's time but i still could feel some nostalgia just by watching you walk on them.
Damn these were two of my absolute favorite maps to play on. Lots of rp memories and single player npc battles were had here, thanks for helping me remember some simpler times

I remember simply exploring maps like these back in the day. My favorite RP map was Amsterville. It's just so cozily detailed, and has this unexplainable charm to it. I would spend hours just walking around and taking in the scenery of these long forgotten maps.
Something about your narration over the source aesthetic as you go through these maps just brings me so much joy, keep doing series like this please
i can remember the SCP ovis city map somewhat vividly, you got there whenever you escaped from the facility and there was civilian roles that worked outside of the actual facility. everybody wanted to be at the pizza shop

There hasn't been a time where I haven't had Amsterville installed since I first came across it. It's such a lovingly crafted map, everything about it feels so deliberate, nothing sticks out as not contributing to the whole. It's a Machinima maker's dream back in the day lol.
But who made the map??? I've never been able to figure it out.....

Ovis City was one of my childhood maps thanks to just randomly joining servers on Gmod 9 when I can't afford Gmod back then, I was quite shocked that there was that kind of intractability and found walking around the map great (and of course, did the NPC fights like its the 7-hour war)
It's not the map I may want to play now but I sure do boot it up once in a while to reminisce or create stories or just mess around
So I'm not the only one that has weird, vague memories of SCP OvisCity! It's almost like that map is an SCP itself.
Amsterville is such a classic! Used to be so popular on some TTT servers I was a regular on back in the day!
There was another RP map that was fairly popular around the time of these maps, I don't believe it was made by the same creators. Its setting was a large skyscraper/tower, there was a small outdoor rooftop area. The map also had "moving sidewalks" which would force-push players along to facilitate faster travel around the map. I tried to find the map on the workshop, but was not successful. I want to say it was before the official release, so 2005 or early 06.
hometown 1999 is the better falkman map imo, though that might just be nostalgia talking. Also, your totally right about the scp thing with oviscity. For a while I didnt know oviscity existed, so I would just play on that scp map and just explore the surface part.
I miss the old days of DarkRP, back when it was the perfect mix of meme and RP. Today it's 99% meme and 1% RP.

I am absolutely in love with maps like these, filled with so much detail and personality. It's just so charming to play on them, even when not doing RP. Just exploring the empty maps. If anyone asks me how much potential the Source engine really has. I'll always point to Garry's Mod.
*EDIT:* I think you should review multiplayer maps from HL2 Deathmatch, CS:Source, CS:GO, Team Fortress 2, DoD:Source etc, in this same style. And not just community made maps, but also ones packaged with the games by default.

Would love a series on gmod maps (not just rp) since there's a lot of cool stuff. Also the video being 4:3 ratio was weird.
And also I actually played on ttt_amsterville back when I played ttt: it needs a certain number of players since it's big, but it's quite a lot of fun with how many corridors it has to sneak between the main areas while also being far from other people that could see you shoot. I remember getting people out of the river or the hotels was annoying, but I had lots of fun on it.
Oviscity was pretty cool. I remember building a map based on the rebel hideout on that map.

I played the Amsterdam map as a kid and even made a reeeeeally old Machinima on it. It is so cool to see here. As as Bulgarian who now went to Holland like 10 times for festivals and is even about to travel to another event there next week, I do see the resemblance now and seeing the store SPAR which is an actual store in holland made my jaw drop. Sometimes life comes full circle in such weird ways - it's so surreal...
Will never beable to replicate the og rp days back in 2009. Sometimes the best servers only had ~10 jobs rather than 70+

Amsterville is a classic map for me, one of the first maps I ever downloaded and played on Gmod along with a few other classics.

Dude I loved Amsterville, I have so many memories of Ms Breezy and her friends playing on the map like dweebs alongside fucking around on my own when i discovered it on the workshop finally!

I remember the Ovis City scp map! I recall it having two versions, one existed around 2013-2015 gmod, (one that I played), and the other one from 2019, only difference being is that the site is revamped and ‘better’ on the new one, I haven’t seen it since though, would love to look around and see what it looks like.
I too have been looking for the SCP map for ages no idea what happened to it but I would love to play on it again

I remember playing Oviscity in 2005 gmod 9.0.4 rp servers, furnishing the few apartments and taking over the volvos :) good memories!

Hey, thanks so much for the video, I wanted to do this too but decided not to.
Some maps that deserve mention are rp_hometown1999, rp_OMGcity, and the orginal rp_evocity_vd2, everyone has probably played on evocity but the old map had a bug from an engine update that cause the game to crash if you went inside this cave.
The old rp maps are interesting a lot of them have guns that spawn in them, even rp_downtown_v2 had the gun machine. There's also a lot of really well made custom models for the map, something that I feel is very uncommon now.
I have been playing since 07-08 and I really hated when rp_downtown_v2 became super popular, EVERY server in gmod 10 was running that map, and I really missed the older maps they were so much more creative and less empty feeling, and there was stores and certain areas and props for RPing, but then it became just a bunch of empty buildings strewn about.
I remember playing on the SCP version as well, and I always wondered what happened to it, since I loved that it went from the facility into the city.
Speaking of lost maps, I remember one that I found when I looked up "battleground" in the search bar. It was a large building that looked like it housed an arena in the middle. It also had a few other rooms, and a vent system. The arena also had a lookout at the top. I always wondered what happened to that map, it just vanished randomly.

I have a distinct memory of loading Amsterville into Portal, along with Counter-Strike Source content to get it to work, and then shooting portals into the river.

Might have to make this a series if not already these maps at at the very peak of this deeeeeeep Iceburg gets wildly deeper when you start to add in some of the other modes like zombie survival I remember that one especially having an absurd amount of maps that you'd just pick up from the server you joined lots of them straight up don't even exist anymore unless they're hiding on someone's ancient hard drive that hasn't seen use in almost 10 years
I think the SCP map you were thinking of was Werewolf Gaming’s SCP roleplay map.
There’s a lot of different versions of Ovis yeah, I mainly played on the SCP servers version of the map in the last few years - which actually kept the above ground section very much the same as you said but it did have some minor differences.
What's funny is that I was planning on making a darkrp server and didn't want to use downtown cause it has basically been beaten to death, so this vid actually kinda helped lol

SCP Ovis City map is real, I'll need to go find it but I've played on a server running it. When you showed Ovis, that's all I could think of lol
the SCP server with ovis city above is Deep Gaming, funny that you mebtionned that scp server because I was also thinking about it, matter of fact I used to be GameMaster on that server (basically animator, event maker lol)
I remember the first map from a venturiantale video. He was messing around with a back to the future addon
I would love to see a video on an old gamemode, that is rarely played right now, but it had /some/ playerbase before, called Gmod Stranded. It still has some servers right now, but they're so customized and changed from what the gamemode originally was.
there's another one that i used to play in called rp_retribution, i have yet to see any server using this map somehow. i believe the author said it has so much custom content that it he added any more the whole map would just break, i still loved to play on it and was probably the first map that gave me that weird "liminal space" type feel when i played it without any videos playing on the background

i know this is one of your older videos, but the part where you talked about an SCP map that had ovis city pasted at the top? i know exactly what you're talking about, i have a very fond memory of playing on that map with my brother when we were younger.

One rp map I love exploring but it's not really abandoned is. rp_industrial there's also rp_industrial_nova an edit that has a gigantic underground mine. That ive never really seen cause of missing textures

I believe that Cafe Riverview is a reference to another F. Kalkman's DM map, called Riverview. It has the same style and in the middle of the map theres the iconic cafe with secret underground bunker.
Bangclaw isn’t as forgotten, but all I can ever find running it are euro servers. Booting it up on solo to test background npcs hit me with a nostalgia tsunami, I used to play some MLP server on that map everyday, and despite how cringe that is it unironically hurts that I’ll never get to relive those moments.
I also remember seeing ovis city as the upside for an SCP server a few years ago.
i have played the ovis scp version many times, it was on a certain scp rp server. the network had two servers with one being in ovis. they have a point system to unlock jobs/scps and i think they still run

i played amsterville on a hns server, 2018, the server is long gone now, but damn were those good times

The Asmterville minimart in the thumbnail is just a wave of nostalgia. I basically grew up in that map, only single player though. Never had much of an interest in gmod multiplayer.
I remember playing Amsterdam as a TTT map. It was not a good map for TTT, but it was cool. (Also, it was at night!)

to be honest I miss these older dark rp maps. they feel a lot more in tune and detailed... even if the items are "useless", some of these places having locks, spawned items, etc, just felt more at home to me.
