- In today's video I'm sharing the clothes I'm no longer buying and that I stopped buying that improved my style overall. These are the things I stopped buying so I can spend my time and money on purchases that will stand the test of time in my wardrobe, and that don't feel like the same thing over and over again. When I stopped buying so many of these things, I felt like I really started to have more fun with my style and feel great.

Great tips! My stylish mother taught me her #1 buying rule: When in doubt, leave it out. That rule has saved me hundreds if not thousands over the years.
Love it!
Love your stylish mother
Everyone always recommends to only buy hell yes pieces, but if I followed that advice, I wouldn’t have anything to wear. I haven’t seen a hell yes piece in forever (certainly well over a decade), yet I need to get dressed everyday, so I have to compromise. Maybe I have weird taste or a weird body shape, but something is just always off. It feels like the quality of fabric and fit has just deteriorated so much, even at elevated price levels. Had no luck with getting things tailored either (they typically end up ruining a piece altogether by measuring incorrectly, wonky seams etc.).
Totally agree! I really struggle to find clothes made from good quality fabric, cut well, and sewn well. There is so much junk being thrown at us.
There is an easy way out. Learn how to make your own clothes. Learn how to sew and draft your own patterns, how to tailor with couture detailing. You decide what fabrics you use and what shape your clothes will have.
I have made the decision to make my own clothes about 10 years ago- and I have never looked back. Now I am a spinner, a knitter, a weaver and a leatherworker. I weave my own cloth and make a coat or a smart skirt suit that fits me like a glove and that is perfect, right down to the silk twill lining. A jumper is an easy affair. Take a raw sheep fleece, process it, spin it and knit up your own design- and it's exactly the way you want it (colour, shape, style). Need a handbag or a pair of comfy all-leather shoes in a particular style? It's no problem nowadays. I just select a hide I like and get cutting, skiving, gluing and stitching.
No compromises, please.
Now, nobody is saying you have to do all these things. Begin at the beginning: get a fabric you like and start sewing.
@@jvnd2785 I am actually looking into this. I think it would be therapeutic in many ways. However I’m more at the make a tea towel stage 🤣
@@Sandra-rk4mu, that's perfectly fine. A good, clean tea towel is always welcome :-) Once you master straight edges and curves, you can make just about anything. Happy learning and making!
yes, i also know this. sometimes i just have to compromise. i find it so hard to find a jacket i really like to wear or knitwear. but: i try to not make it too often. and when i am in a store and for example i am trying to find a new sweater and i am not sure about it, i remind myself that i already have a sweater at home that i am not completely happy about it and that i don't need another one.
also clothes often don't fit me well :(((
The main thing I stopped doing is worrying that I looked too odd or that I didn’t look like everyone else. Now I just go for it and I always get a surprising amount of compliments.
I have been following your style journey for a while now. You have made me realise that shopping for your fantasy self just adds clothes that are never worn. I have now stopped buying button up shirts as I had a lightbulb moment and realised I actually do not work in a bank 😂 But my real life job is a farmer! So they are now “jackets” for the summer months and I refuse to add more to my wardrobe. As always, thank you for your wise words 😊
❤Love button ups too. The elegance & rich spectrum of crisp cottons, oxfords, & twills of traditional menswear; the soft silks & chambrays; a popped collar; as well as all the cool classic patterns.
I've learned they don't necessarily love me back😂. ⏳️As a voluptuous hourglass, I gotta size up⬆️ to button at the ➡️breasts & hips⬅️
w/o stress. This typically leaves me w/an over abundance of unnecessary fabric around my middle🤣.
The full tuck looks most flattering to corral all that excess volume, but no woman who struggles w/this exaggerated shape wants any ADDED bulk😖 around her bum or tum. ☹️None of us want to live full-time squeezed as a sausage in Spanx or hose.
🤓Tailored tops are lovely in theory, but the truly fitted ones tend to feel like a straight jacket on my shoulders & curvy (not obese) form. I prefer to use the slim, slightly slouchy button down shirts as a light shacket &/or easy cover-up in my extreme hot climate🥵.
🤔Think the hem & collar can look quite charming peeking out from under a sweater vest or jumper〰️but it's the LEAST flattering option for those of us w/a longer torso (& ergo shorter legs)😔.
🧐It's far better for us to knot (or crop ✂️) a long, open button up. Leaving them out, buttoned yet loose, simply stunts⬇️ our height😬.
It's also smart for us to use a style hack to gather the shirt volume in the back to help highlight our natural ➡️waist⬅️ definition👍.
At minimum, a front French tuck & cuffed/rolled ¾ sleeves will elongate our legs ↕️. They will cleverly draw the 👁👁focus back up⬆️ to our waist where the attention belongs.

I just went shopping for clothes yesterday, and actually came home with something, for I think the first time all year. Dressing for my colors and body shape is a really easy first step for me, although I'm still learning the nuance.
I also bought a much higher priced sweater than I ever have. It checked every box. Color, silhouette, interesting detail, well made, good texture, easy to wash.
But it took me a month, and "permission" to buy it as a present for my birthday, before it came home with me.
I was raised to shop deals. Companies had my mom hooked with "you saved $X!!!" And it's taken my entire adult life to unlearn "buy the cheapest thing". But I imagine I'll spend a lot less on sweaters now that I have one that feels like it will become a favorite.
"Buy fewer, but better" has been a hard-won lesson for me.
Finding my palette during my style journey really helped to curb my spending - if it doesn't fit my palette, I'm not interested 😉
Love that! It’s a great filter!
Me too. I realized this: sometimes I'd be trying on clothes and think, eh...I'm not sure. And then I'd put my own clothes back on and feel a rush of relief, like "that's more like it!" It was because of the colors. If I don't feel that sense of relief, I'm not buying it.
Actually, on the trend page- I wear what I love. For example, I have a silk scarf in a leopard print that is more than 15 years old...some years I wear it a lot, some not at all. Burgundy colour has been my favourite for fall and winter for some time now, so I have a lot of accessories in this colour. There's no need to go crazy with a trend. A " nod" is enough for me.
I agree with this. A "nod" is enough. I find with color trends especially, I may even skip some of them entirely if they don't work for me. Burgundy has never been a color for me so I just have a bag, necklace, and tights. No coats or clothing items.
Great tips, thank you! I stopped buying lesser expensive substitutes for the items I really want and either buy the quality item or put it on a wish list.
This is such a good one!!!
Good advice, i often buy a compromise and then later buy the thing which i really wanted anyway 🫠
I'm a first-time commenter on your channel, Christina! I'm in my mid-sixties and love learning more about personal style. One category I stopped purchasing to further focus my style is inexpensive, poorly made but cute fashion jewelry. I've found it takes so much pressure off when shopping and dressing if I limit myself to fewer but higher quality pieces that upgrade my look every time.
Being more discerning about whether I like something for fantasy me is 1) hard, but 2) definitely helping me say no more
A huge yes to a video about buying into trends. I just bought a pair of leopard jeans (a print I always despised) just because I feel they are NOT TOO TRENDY anymore 😂 my wardrobe could really use some interesting prints so I don't regret it, but there's definitely more psychology behind such purchases than we're willing to admit ...
I do love a leopard print but I can’t do patterned trousers. Leopard print in a sweater is easier for me and brilliant in shoes. A leopard print boot and trainer is easy. Enjoy your new purchase 😊
I try to remember your “hell yes” when shopping. It has really helped say NO! Also stopped buying so many basics. My wardrobe feels boring because I was obsessed with having all the tools to make a good outfit but I am lacking all the cool pieces now. Great tips, as always!
It's so true what you said about trends! I think just the same way about it and would appriciate it a lot seeing a separate video about that theme.
What regards accessories it's really true what you mentioned , BUT most of the time we are not outside going around with a bag, sunglasses and a jacket! For me it's so important that an outfit works also WITHOUT acceccories because that's the daily reality! Unfortunateltly all the outfits you see online are nearly always styled for going out. But we work and live inside!
Very True! That’s where I like to rely on jewelry, hair, watches, and belts!
Something I've had to stop doing is buying things I'm not fond of just because it's something everyone else has or it's a wardrobe staple. I've finally realized that I don't like jeans. It's a long story, but I just don't care for them. Last year I got rid of all of my jeans but one pair. And that one pair I've worn exactly one time since then, so they need to go. I don't have the figure for them anymore, I don't find them comfortable and I'd rather they didn't take up space in my closet anymore. There, I've said it for the universe to hear LOL!
THIS! I have zero jeans in my closet and I’m not sad about it at all. They aren’t for me. So, please, be encouraged that you are not alone! 😂
@@danielleg1504 thank you! I always thought I was weird until my duo partner and I had a whole conversation and she's not a jeans fan either. Then I realized I think I've only ever seen her in jeans maybe once!
😊Happy to be hit & miss in the denim department...
🚫Jeans👖s...since the 90s. They feel far too structured, bulky, masculine, & heavyweight now in my typically hot LA climate🥵.
🚫 Denim Trucker Jackets. Also too hot, heavy, & structured for my liking nowadays. (Like lightweight corduroy in this style only.)
🗣Plus, was once regretfully peer pressured into giving away a pristine designer ★Pop Art Style★ one from the 80s that was perfectly full of an highly feminine array of studs, sparkly patches, & actual bling. For someone who leans more minimal when it comes to glitzy gear, I adored it's over the top oppulence. Thus far, that outstanding showpiece has proven irreplaceable🥺.
👩🏫 Lesson learned. Pack away your ✨️favorite✨️ things until the related trends resurface or the mood takes you again.
🚫 Denim Skirts either. Overdosed on shorter ones in all washes that same decade〰️while the long ones still strike me as being too
⛪️church-girl👧.
❤Love lightweight denim & chambray in some shirts, shorts, & dresses.
❤Note: Do have a heavier weight denim waistcoat that fits my curvy form perfectly. Will occssionally pull this baby out when it's more mild.
❤For a casual "utility" type pant or skirt, I prefer a traditional lightweight classic khaki cargo, some 🪖camo, or a parachute style material. It's more of a sporty tech wear that functions well whether hiking in a forrest🌲 or crossing a desert🌵 like most military &/or hunting gear. Not a warmonger or hunter, so don't come after me.
Simply like something in these categories w/minimal pocket detailing, that's breathable & holds it's shape under extreme conditions😰💦.
❤Otherwise for the rare times I actually select a pant〰️prefer a softer, straight or slightly wide leg in high rise. My favorite is a classically pleated & tailored trouser that's nipped in at the waist.

Absolutely loathe blue denim, any shade or shape of blue jeans. But I really like black. Black jeans suit me and get nice comments.
Only a small part of my clothing but definitely useful.
They do seem to be some people's go to all the time but there's so many great options that aren't jeans.
All of these tips are spot-on, and I wish I'd applied these years ago, lol. I have pared things down, and now I'm focusing on upgrading my basics and filling in the gaps with only quality items that I love.
I stopped buying so many basics too!! As soon as I started adding in pieces with interest and fun accessories to complement my basics/foundational pieces I felt instantly more stylish 🙌🏽😍
I keep my body shape and color preferences in mind when picking out clothes. I also know who I am dressing. So many things don't make it past the first round.
this can go a very long way toward avoiding buying stuff you won't wear. I agree totally. When I shop clearance racks especially, I mentally weed out so many "good deals" knowing that I need tops that hit hip or above, dresses NOT skirts, and no pastels, and other little rules that have served me well.
Great video! I've been incorporating your "if it's not a hell yes, it's a no" rule into my buying, and it has saved me lots of money!
However, sometimes i do get frustrated because I'm not finding the exact piece I want, and I feel the gap in my wardrobe for longer. (Whereas before, I would buy something to fill that gap while I still search for the exact item I want.) But I know it will be worth it when I finally find the perfect piece, and I feel better knowing I'm not wasting money on something I intend to replace.
Trends that I am happy about is leopard and burgandy since I have pieces that I have had for years such as leopard belt, blouse, scarf and my booties. Also have some coated burgundy jeans that I can wear with a black top and leopard belt. I try not to buy so much into the trends just accessories
Great advice!
Trends are ways that
encourage and support spending. Style is how you develop your creativity, be mindful of this and how influencing can also distort your creativity. Curate your own style with care and patience.
I am aware that it's part of the theme you cover on the channel but really admire your readiness to talk about some flops and refer to actual fashion journey you've been through 🙂love the hell yes rule, trying to implement that on regular basis.
One thing that I recently realized is about wearing oversized clothes. I am rather petite and even that I love love this type of fit it's very tricky to find something that is actually designed to be over size and fit me well that just too big like you mentioned.
Knowing both my color palette AND my body type were key. Once I knew what colors looked good on me, I started buying things just for the color but didn't take my body type and why certain items look good or bad on me into consideration at all. It probably happens the other way around too, and you just end up with piles of stuff you still don't really like. Knowing your style words also really helps.
I love the Hell yes rule. I passed it along to a friend and we have both saved money and room in our closets!
Yes please make a video about how you decide to buy into a trend 😃
Christina, what a great video! Overall I loved the tips, and specifically, it helped me figure out why two jackets I recently thrifted didn’t work (not the right fit but the brand I wanted, such a good price, erc.). Love the idea of only buying basics with more interesting details, and using accessories more when I am looking for something extra. And love how your style has evolved this year, keeps getting even better!
Trends make me feel like I'm being manipulated into being a little "fashion solider." This season; leopard print, burgundy, olive green, gold buttons, denim tuxedo...over and over again just about everywhere. I like your attitude about trends and would appreciate hearing more about that topic.
For me I'm sometimes tricked into buying something *because* it fits. I have a hard time with trousers/jeans. So if they fit the waist and bum (rare) at the same time and they're long enough (also rare), I feel so relieved, I buy them but I really don't love them. For example I bought a pair of jeans in a wash I don't really love and there is just a lot of fabric around the waist that makes me feel like I'm standing in some kind of cylinder tube and consequently I never reach for them. I find that I am much less prone to buying the wrong tops because I don't struggle with fit.
I can understand this, absolutely. Tops and jeans/pants are usually pretty easy for me but when I find a dress that fits in a flattering and still modest way I'll usually buy it. Dresses are probably the best thing I can wear and I feel great and get a lot of compliments, but with my body type of tall heavy hourglass, I either look much heavier and/or too "revealed" in a lot of dresses. I can't buy a dress online.
I also find myself buying whatever fits, I don't know my style yet because of that
Christina your videos makes me so calm and peaceful, Thank you so so so much for making such a wonderful beautiful videos for us and I will always be your supportive🥹💫💖
I feel like styling is difficult in generally hot climates year round. I don’t want layers and to wear tons of restricting things on my body, but I rarely see videos of styling with this climate year round in mind. So I tend to stick to t shirt and jeans or shorts to avoid stickiness. I’ll wear a dress occasionally but it’s not functional for my daily life. I would love to see a video for ideas for those who live in year round climates (not seasonal).
Where did you get the blazer you’re wearing? LOVE it!
Rationalization pieces. Yeah, I feel that one. Great point there!
you look sooo good! 😍 and I feel it is more than you look (even though that is so pretty) you have that "jé ne sais quoi" , like a grounded confidence in knowing your self. I am not sure but you look so good 🥰 and thank you for tipps! :)
My sin (for years) used to be buying too small clothes, that "would look great when I loose just a few pounds...this lovely dress will motivate meto diet/excersize". Well... never happening.
I stopped waiting money and now I buy things thatfit well
When it comes to trends I learnt that maybe sometimes I do not have to "invest" a lot and still have some fun. My examples for incoming season: I bought burgundy nail polish and simple animal pattern belt. And I'm ok, I don't need cow jacket or big burgundy coat, I don't have to dive fully in this particular trend 😊
Love this and stealing it! 😃
💯 Those are great ways to give a nod to the trends without doing a deep (expensive) dive.
😉Since I lean naturally monochromatic (matching & tonal) over 💥high💥 contrast〰️color is tricky for me. I like to create a 👁👁visual story that makes sense.
If it does not exist in my wardrobe & palette🎨, I simply need to add other threads of that color vein in order to make it more cohesive & intentional. It can be in small 🤏 details like a bag, scarf, sunnies, hat, tights, mittens, jewelry, etc.
😊Love edgy combat boots when it cools off, & recently bought a burgandy pair that have a black sole. Frankly, these were a bit out of my comfort zone😬, but I do wish to introduce more of this bordeaux🍷 color in future.
🤓Currently I own a collection of corporate suits that are gathering dust. Been wanting to take them from the stuffy boardroom to suit my more casual lifestyle.
😎Plus, the only time I can wear these sets together nowadays is when the mercury🌡in the Valley finally lowers in mid-late Fall to mid-late Spring (🤞if we're lucky). It was 112°F🥵 here just the other week.
Only owned a single burgandy suit w/a cropped blazer & conservative pencil skirt. 📺Monica from Friends fame gave me the inspo to shorten ✂️ the skirt a few inches above⬆️ the knee & wear the boots w/matching tights to continue that vertical color ↕️.
Now, I either wear it w/a lightweight cropped black hoodie or do a full tuck of a black graphic tee (that has a touch of burgandy in the print). Top w/a sassy black baseball cap, leather watch band, & a mini-backpack👍.
Also, have since paired the same burgandy blazer & booties w/a soft brown shell tucked into silky brown trousers w/ a 🐾leopard print scarf tied around the handle of a burgandy tote. Wear a watch w/a wide brown leather band & petite crossbody bag too.
Next, married the above booties & tote w/a burgandy tank as well as a knit cap. Coordinated these pieces w/an olive green cashmere cardigan & straight maxi skirt.
Lastly, paired the booties w/a navy 2-pc that comprised of a cropped blazer & a maxi pleated skirt. Finished it off w/a navy t-neck bodysuit & felt fedora as well as burgandy patterned scarf around my neck, a poppy pin, & the tote.
🛍 Find it's fun to shop my own closet. To bring things out into proper rotation 🔄 & reinvent good quality garments that have been neglected. Enjoy merging my casual sporty chic w/classics too. Sporty Tech wear can be elegant & glam. It's no longer the sloppy gym gear of the past.

Yes! I like to buy something low stakes like socks or even a cheap tshirt in a new color I’m experimenting with.
This is great!!!
Thanks for taking the time Christina to educate a lot of us. We all make mistakes & I sometimes think this one great piece will make my wardrobe. But it doesn’t. Buying these belts bc they look great but wait I don’t wear belts. Do I really need to get 3 pair of pants just bc they may not make them anymore. Nope. I totally get it. I think we may purchase stuff as an activity , or out need to fill the “void” blackhole..
For me it’s always remembering that admiring someone’s style is not having to emulate
Recently binched your profile again and got over the basic capsule. A tactic that failed me for years but every other youtubes tells you to start with basics and elevate...yeah. Love this video! ❤
I can't take my eyes from your leather blazer. It's fenomenal 😍
Always informative and thought provoking. I quit buying sale items because of sale. Saw a Anthropologie denim blazer at thrift store recently. It was new and $7.99. But I don’t like denim tops, nor the denim on denim look. I really debated buying just because it was a great deal. Ultimately didn’t buy. I’d never wear it. Getting much better with what I buy, even if it’s cheap. Only purchasing items I love! Thanks so much!
Mine are blazer (unless they have shortened sleeves) because majority of time they need to be altered but I never take the time to do that. Another one is casual t-shirt unless neck hem is lower like vneck or loose. Always keep trying to pull them down.
The hell yes rule really helped me pick better pieces, and I also think about 3 existing items in my closet that would match. Shopping in store has saved me from purchases I would've regretted
I had a color analysis and only buy my colors- huge game changer. i avoid synthetics and have branched out to materials other than cotton. Style takes time and i've learned to be okay with that. I keep a list of everything i want to purchase and every purchase i make- it helps to see what was worth it and what wasn't. Sometimes its hard to spend more on a better piece, but when i see how much i've worn it compared to the cheaper items it motivates me to save for the pieces i really want (which sometimes take a lot of research to even find!) My quotes are: "if its not a Hell Yes its a NO" and "Buy nice or buy twice."
Here's my examples: I am not a jean jacket person, but several years ago I was influenced to finally buy one. Do I think it's cool? Yes. Do I think it looks good on me? Sure. But I just cannot make myself wear the thing!! I have only worn it maybe 3 times. Same w jumpsuits. I finally found one that fit reasonable well on my long-waisted body. But I haven't worn it once.
Bookmarking these tips for future purchases! I can relate to stopping buying basics. I can’t tell you how many corporate looking blazers I’ve returned. Now I look for a nuance in texture or silhouette in those types of pieces.
Thanks. I actually listened to it twice. Good advice here.
I was trying on a pair of Levis in a thrift store the other day and I was so tempted to buy them because they almost ticked all of the boxes. But I remembered your advice of "If it isn't a hell yes then it's a hell no". Thank you!
Just Because is my biggest weakness 😁. I buy when it was heavily discounted. I buy because it’s luxury goods found in thrift shop or discount retailer. I buy because I thought it’d be a good idea. Just because is my excuse to acquire a house full of things I don’t often use.
We need a closet tour update 🫣😍
I'm not into clothes and style but love these videos, I'll keep these tips in mind for future purchases. Love your channel, whatever topic you address
This is how I treat trends: I go small on trends. I will buy a shoe, a belt, a small scarf and wear them through the life of the trend. Since trends tend to repeat, I store them away when they are out. I pull them out when they are back in style. Since what I buy tends to be smaller, I save money and always have a piece that will scratch that itch to be trendy.
Same! I feel like doing this I stay pretty on trend, without spending much or going too hard.
Thankyou for articulating these things....these are the tips that we know subconsciously but do not pay attention unless someone points it out .
Stopped buying classics and started buying into trends as well… but hear me out 😅
Not going crazy
Ex: instead of buying yet another …. Classic pair of “straight leg jeans” in a “standard” mid blue - I tried barrel jeans ( in a couple different washes) it’s the unexpected and it just feels so much more “cool”
So, maybe I’m saying once you have the basics and classics - just stop 🛑 there and add some FRESH / UNEXPECTED pieces - which adds the style, personality and dimension that makes you feel and look how we all want to look “stylish” 😮
Same with accessories- but the interesting pieces - why not ?? I sold so many “classic” handbags because they didn’t make me feel styled - they made me feel boring!
Anyhoo … That’s what I’ve discovered lately 😊
My summer wardrobe was so blah... just a few button-up shirts and the rest are boring t-shirts. There's no layering until cardigan season because I'm perimenopausal so I'm actually looking forward to the cooler months for once.
I’ve realised that I don’t like T shirts if they aren’t a layering piece so I don’t wear them in the summer.
My summer tops are linen and cotton options that keep me cool but are in my colour palette, have necklines I enjoy and are a flattering but comfortable silhouette.
I am trying not to compromise on fit. If it doesn’t fit me now, nicely, I am walking away because I don’t reach for what doesn’t fit me well.
I really enjoyed watching and listening! I feel the same about trends and basics in every color. Thank you for the takeaways 😊
The so-called classic "white button-down shirt," I feel like a man in them, and they are boring looking. Thrifting is something I never care for and will not do, ever. I detest the smell or the used looked of thrifted anything. It's not me at all!
great tips and I love your jacket looks lovely quality and you look really super polished and so stylish. Enjoy your videos, thank you.
I absolutely agree with your views about 'trendy' clothes.
Yes please to a video about buying into trends and how you manage this.
Thank you
Excellent insights and tips, Christina. I got a lot out of this episode! 😊
Hi Christina! What are the grey pleated plants you’re wearing at 1.40? They’re lovely and look great on you :) I want a pair!
Loved this video ! Thank you so much!
Trends are the river of evolving fashion. We dont in general buy the trends of the 1920’s for example. I think there are fads and then there are more long lasting trends in colour shape etc. The trick for me is to buy something that I see myself wearing in 3 years or so. I avoid trends that are easily dated to a particular season or year. I think there is a middle path for everyone in this as the reality is fashion does not stay the same from year to year even if you are a very classic dresser.
There is definitely a middle path! 💯 I’m having fun finding my own “basics with a twist”… I really appreciate when a piece has a teeny bit of extra interest in the fabric, collar, sleeve, etc.
Small tailoring jobs make a huge difference on clothes too, and really aren't too hard or expensive. A good example is the oversized pants you showed. If those were hemmed to the proper length and cinched in with darts a little around the hips it would have worked. Blazers are harder as you really need to fit the shoulders first and then alter the sleeves, waist or length, and that makes wearing a larger size very difficult. (Source: I used to work as a suit tailor)
The easiest and most affordable tailoring jobs are hemming pants, sleeves, and shirt or dress lengths (unless there is complicated seaming or special details). Even though I do my own tailoring I avoid certain items because they're too much work: blazers with buttons too close to the end of the sleeve, leather jackets (I have short arms!), jeans with a gap in the waist, seams with piping, button up shirts where the shoulders don't fit properly. My recommendation is to avoid these items if you want to get alterations.
My wardrobe has improved significantly since I started buying only hell yeah pieces.
Great tips! I am so guilty of sizing up 🤦♀
One type of duplicate I'm in favour of (within reason!) is buying the same piece in two different sizes. As someone who deals with bloating and a bit of weight fluctuation, having a few staple pieces in both my "true" size and a size up helps me feel good in my clothes no matter what.
I do this mainly for jeans, and occasionally for tshirts if I want the flexibility of styling them as fitted vs oversized.
I think that’s totally valid! Esp if you love the piece!
Thanks! Great advices once again. Hugs and stay cool! 😎
Now that I’m retired I just don’t go out enough to bother with trends anymore. I have quality classics that are a “hell yes” (best advice ever thank you). I have invested in nice stay at home pieces that are of good quality, comfortable and make me feel good. My requirement is that if I need to leave the house the outfit I have on can be worn and I don’t have to change into something else. Barefoot Dreams is my jam. When I do plan go out I dress nice with jewelry, accessories, makeup etc. My fantasy self wants everything she sees but my real self stops her now. 🩷
Hi Christina! You're totally my style inspiration!
I actually have a video request..
Can you please make a video that explains how to mix between two different styles?
I'll explain what I mean.. I have an office job, one that includes negotiation and presentations. I need to be taken seriously.
But, my natural style is something between sporty and Avril Lavigne, like black tees, ripped jeans and converse. But, obviously, this is not a good look for the office. And when I wear a blazer, for example, I like how it looks but it doesn't feel really me, and I feel like a kid in a costume sometimes ( I also have a baby face which doesn't help..).
So how can I incorporate a bit more of my natural style into my everyday office wardrobe?
I would VERY MUCH appreciate an explanation on this, because I'm lost..
BTW, I did try the pinterest method where I try to mimic outfits, but they all seem the same and very unflattering on me..
❤❤❤
Where is your black leather blazer from? I’ve been looking for one for a while and don’t see it linked.
Bought RL sweater jacket with the logo gold buttons for 2.50 US and I will wear love it and it fits great what a deal❤❤hell yes motto works thanks.
What I can use ... a) buying color with texture so it's not just basic - good tip!
b) not buying more basic pieces - I'm always being tees
C) buying your own size, not bigger, just relaxed - I've done that.
D) as for trendy pieces - make sure it's your style, and also a few different ways to wear it
For me, trends bring new rhings to the spotlight. But, im not quick to buy in. I love when a trend is sonething i already love. For instance, ive been a leapord print girl for decades. It coming back over the last year gives me some new options.
I love your style!
Really good advice... and I need it :)
Heyyy! Thanks for the tips, I am guilty of buying just because items and always regret it. Also where is the blazer 1:36 from? So cute! And can you recommend comfortable but stylish trousers? Thanks! ❤
Aritzia agency blazer! If you can find it in wool, go for that. And I love the everlane way high pants!
Can someone tell me please if saying "my own personal style" is correct? If it's yours, and your own, isn't it automatically also personal? In my language it's a mistake to say the same thing twice - here it's actually thrice - and it should be avoided, yet I hear it in English (among English-speaking vloggers) constantly.
You’re absolutely right! “My style” says it more correctly and accurately. ❤
@danielleg1504 thank you! ☺️
Great video! Please do a trends video(as you mentioned)😍
That’s ok, you can leave the yellow items on the shelf for me. 💛 It’s my favourite! (Although, most of my yellow items are accessories, not clothing pieces) 😂
I bought the new balance 530. I sold them for half what I paid. While trendy they just were not for me and I was desperate to get rid of them lol.
I would like to see your take on trends
Great advice! Thank u
A couple of years ago I made the decision to stop buying floral or frilly items as they felt excessively feminine for my personality and quite athletic frame. It took me 40 years to have an idea of my personal style and begin to articulate my preferences! Shopping is tricky sometimes as I just seem to see floral dresses everywhere especially when spring and summer roll around🤣 Ps I think floral fabric is gorgeous, but not on me!
Hi, I love your blazer. Where can I find one? Thank you.
I stopped buying certain colours, especially for my everyday wardrobe. I just know what I choose and it's usually not bright colours, although I do sometimes get a hell yes from a bright colour dress so they usually sneak their way into my closet... But since it's usually dresses, the outfit is a one-and-done kind of situation, so I just tone it down with accessories or shoes.
I couldn’t do the what I call Swedish architect look. I am five feet tall with a bust and I looked awful. My health is such that it affects what I use, I don’t leave the house much but I make sure I have lovely coats and knits. I would love a decent cigarette pant which is easy to dress up.
Such a useful video 🙏🏻
Love the if it’s not a hell yes than it’s a hell no!❤
Best advice: don’t buy uncomfortable shoes. You shouldn’t need to “break in” shoes. I know I won’t want to wear them! They’ll just end up as a waste of money.
Yes to trends video!
I still really love that white dress on you. I get that it doesn't work with the sharp word but for me it is an example of why we shouldn't get fixed on what our style is.
Thanks! But wasn’t a hell yes
I just have to say that you have the best profile. So cute.
That white dress did not look good on you at all. Completely the wrong vibe for for your 'workout' arms! However, the black (leather?) jacket you were wearing is awesome - where did you get that?
When wide leg pants came in I ordered 3-4 different pairs but most of them did not suit my body shape at all, I did find one pair that weren't too wide which looked very good; still the only pair I wear regularly. I'm much better in 7/8 length fitted pants.
With the white t-shirt trend, I looked in a lot of shops for a t-shirt with a v-neck and long enough sleeves to cover the saggy bingo wings, I did find one and it still looks a bit 'meh'; I think I'm not really a t-shirt girl either! Although I do have a very nice Kitdo to style it up with! 😀
I try to establish one rule for myself: *don't* discuss with yourself (in front of the mirror). It never works. "mmh, it might work, mmh, why don't you like it, it seems to fit all the boxes. You are too picky, everything is okay with the garment etc. etc. " Trust your feelings. This is sometimes hard if you have already spent the money. ;(
I stopped carrying about the size number and just looking at measurements charts
love it
Yay
Many of my failed clothing purchases have been due to a hovering salesperson telling me how fabulous I looked in whatever I was trying on, even though it didn't suit me. Now I avoid SALESpeople and their comments.
The main thing I stopped buying is crap, like literally all that cheap stuff, bags, shoes, jewerly you name it, all that things that look so cheap and made of plastic. I preffer now to have a few things but long lasting ones, at least the basics because they will never be out.
