    so anyways I was climbing the side of a cliff about a football field tall, and me being about the height of 15 cheeseburgers figured out that I can climb this in about the same time as a football could be thrown up by Tom Brady, but I forgot to factor the length of the slopes that have the curvature of a fruit by the foot. So if I have a rope the length of three whales and within time increments of a cookie deteriorating in milk I should be able to make this climb and receive a F in climbing grade and college grades mostly because everything I say doesn't make sense, yeah America

    A 5.11 in Australia is aprx 23

    Did you know V grade's initially were thought to be as such
    V0, V1 any fit & able body can climb.
    V2, is just a little bit more technical then V1.
    And V3,V4 was for the people who spent time on bouldering, and getting good at strong moves compared to sports endurance. It was a shift in climbing culture ❤

    • @sendthis9480
      @sendthis9480 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There’s a trick:
      Grab a handful of chalk and rub it all in your hair…close your left eye only, put one finger in one nostril (any finger…either nostril), cross your toes on both feet, call out “shalamama labooboobay” 5 times….close your eyes as tight as you can and click your heels three times….
      When you opens your eyes….
      …..you’re still stuck at the top.
      So you man up…realize the situation…compartmentalize all that tired, sore, etc behind the task at hand….and get down.
      Lol…sorry…you hike off the side or lower yourself back down with your rope.
      Haven’t you ever hiked to an “overlook” or scenic area? That hike “to the top”, is a climber’s “walk-off”.

      That other comment was insanely long and confusing, so I'll explain it. As you climb on lead, you take the rope up with you clipping it into bolts as you go. At the top are a set of anchors that you clip your rope into. When climbing, you always use a rope that is at least twice the distance to the anchors so that you can be lowered down when you finish. Alternatively, many times there is simply a way to walk down the other side of whatever rock formation you climbed up.
      Usually though, climbers are lowered by their rope since any gear they placed needs to be retrieved on the way down.

  • @benebert6181

    Some letter grades I feel are used if one section of a climb is harder. Not necessarily the whole thing. I’ve seen 5.9a and 5.9b used for climbs that the crux could be on a 5.10 but the rest is chill 🤷
