      My dream is one that starts normal and then folds out twice to an inner 16:9 bigger screen to make it like a tablet. That resolution would also finally make use of the entire screen to watch videos. Besides reading, I don't see a use for a folding phone until that comes along.

      한국인들 r too quiet for their own good and 외국인들은 참 답답해. U'd think a tech reviewer'd know...
      1. The Chinese were prosecuted for stealing the original Fold's bendable tech, which were sold to 2 Chinese phone companies.
      2. Oppo's teardrop hinge isn't new. It was one of the preliminary designs Samsung rejected due to long-term durability issue.
      3. Lol, there's a reason why 🇰🇷 beat China (1.9 billion more than Koreans) in the Chinese intelligence game called, Go (18 yrs in a role). There's a great TH-cam documentary called, AlphaGo (31 million views so far) about the match 😋

    • @TheMrMobile
      @TheMrMobile  2 ปีที่แล้ว +38

      Would love a citation for any of that. I find particularly laughable the notion that the teardrop fold was rejected for durability reasons, as Samsung display failures are commonly reported in places like r/GalaxyFold and r/GalaxyFlip, while the same can't be said of devices like the Find N or RAZR (whose manufacturer Motorola originally introduced that folding design, as I've said many times. Not sure why you're implying that I said Oppo was first to anything.)
      Always happy to learn more so I can include relevant info in my coverage, but Korea-vs-China axe grinding doesn't meet the threshold of relevancy. Feel free to share some links.

    You can get around the aggressive battery life extender option by going into the battery settings for the apps, and make sure it doesn't go to sleep. Notifications will then come through. Huawei phones do this by default, so I got used to changing those settings.

    Rewatching this video made me realize that we NEED more competition in US foldables. Seeing the Fold 4/Flip 4 has made me realize that Samsung isn't going to aggressively innovate simply because there's no need for them to do so. They can keep releasing iterative upgrades without improving things like the crease/cameras and still get tons of sales, simply because they're the only option.
    If this device was in the US, it would almost definitely be my "dream phone" so to speak. I'd love to try foldables right now, but the flip isn't the form factor for me, and the fold still sadly has the crease.

    • @Lord_Reset
      @Lord_Reset ปีที่แล้ว +1

      After a month and a half on my fold 4 it's a refinement but a sorely needed one over my fold 3. Samsung 100% needs more competition, and I don't get the insistence of having a do-it-Everything phone that also has to be thin and light but will never be as thin and light as a standard phone. Id prefer like a fold ultra that leans into the thickness and heaviness and gives us a truly all day battery excellent cameras and all the top class features. If Samsung wants to keep the same design for the fold 5 drop the price to like $1,400 and introduce a fold ultra at $1,800 with more.

    Vivo phones are actually sold here in New Zealand (along with many other Chinese phones), though I'm not sure if we'll get this one, but as good as it looks, I'm just not a fan of Chinese phones in general. Privacy and security issues aside, the software is always tailored in a way that doesn't suit power users, such as the extreme throttling of background processes.
    I suppose, if nothing else, it at least adds some competition to the market which we sorely need right now.

    1. Guess what the 1st gen Galaxy Fold has in common with the Huawei Mate X2 and Vivo X Fold?? The outer displays are all 21:9 aspect ratio.
    2. Most people including myself hate the outer narrow aspect ratio of the Z Fold series. They want a Note-sized phablet phone while folded shut.

      That is your opinion and Samsung's, but the majority of us understand that foldable tablet/phones like this are mainly meant for two-handed use, due to weight, heft and safety (not to drop). So that is IMHO a mistake and a flawed ideal. It is clear that every other foldable has gone with a wider front display as that is what consumers, when asked, want. The only reason the Fold has been selling issue to a near monopoly, if the Find N, this VIVO and Huawei were globally available the Fold would only sell to hardcore Samsung fans.

    You nailed it! I own the Galaxy Fold 3 and bought the Vivo X Fold to try it out. The no go were for sure the persistent issues with the notifications and other software problems. What none of the reviewers speak about in comparison to the Galaxy are the haptics. They are so much better on the Samsung. The general inside screen typing experience is superior to the Vivo. Also what I haven't heard on the reviews is that the Samsungs outer screen gets a lot brighter in direct sunlight. Earpiece sound quality I would also give to the Fold 3.

    I do believe that several other manufacturers do so many things right, perhaps even better than Sammy. But the integration needed for seamless usage in USA is only present in Samsung.

    Spot on review and I agree with you! I'd love to have something like this in the US. I wanted to love the Fold 3. I had it for a few months. I wanted to keep it. But in the end I went back to a slab as I was using the outer display 90% of the time and it just was such a weird aspect ratio and just too narrow. Take the S22 Ultra and double it up and I'd LOVE that! Yes, it would be a hefty phone, but...

    The solution to Vivo X Fold notifications has 3 parts. Most solutions don't involve part 3:
    1) settings -> battery -> battery power consumption management.
    This impacts whether your get your notifications immediately or delayed. Set to "high battery usage" for messages, Whatsapp, etc.
    2) settings -> notifications -> app notification management.
    Make sure notifications are turned on for each app. Pretty obvious.
    3) settings -> apps and permissions -> permission management
    Select an app you aren't getting notifications for, click "all permissions" and turn on "Auto start". This is key! Apparently without Auto start on it seems that apps can only be started if you manually open them, and therefore will only get notifications if you've manually opened them. This settings allows the app to turn on on its own to check for new notifications.

Another thing is that you can use the rear camera to take selfies while using the front screen as a viewfinder, how dope is that?

    I hope Samsung's taking notes for the Z FOLD 5 and Concept G/S.
    Height is not the issue, it's width and many people want a normal sized phone that can turn into a tablet, not a mini-tablet that turns into a funky aspect smaller phone.
    Also it doesn't hurt to offer BOTH larger internal and expandable storage, seeing how these foldable devices can perform double duties as phones and tablets.

    I wish I worked a job where a foldable phone wouldn't break within the week. I work with a lot of silica. And that sand would probably destroy the inner screen pretty easy sitting in my pocket. My current phone has all sorts of micro scratched on the glass screen protector from it.
