So when you walk in Reagan School at 2:38 my heart skips a beat or two. In the '60's, Palestine schools shuffled around due to the new PHS on the loop and integration. This building housed elementary kiddos grades 1-6 for several years. My sis was in the basement the first year and I was in Mrs. Thornell's 3/4th grade class at the bottom of the staircase behind you. No ceiling fans btw... OH yeah... Before Adrian Peterson there was Bill Bradley, PHS quarterback on state champ team in 1964 who was NFL all pro with the Philly Eagles.
Loved this episode. Of course, Palestine is known for the Texas State Railroad. Went there as a kid, and even ate at the Hamburger Bar then. It was good, for a 12 year old. But need to go back again to look at the museum and stroll through the historic district.
Many townships in the United States were named after Palestine in the 1800s. There's Palestine townships in Missouri, Iowa, Illinois, Ohio, Arkansas. And of course Texas! It's very fascinating because these places just reinforce Palestine's deep and longstanding history--before Israel's colonization and occupation of Palestine.
I remember from my classes in the late '60's there that at least some of the folks who came here were from Palestine, Illinois. Of course we've all prayed for East Palestine OH and their chemical spill. I understand people naming places after the "old country" in Europe but I've neer understood the Palestine thing....
Born and raised in Palestine Texas and OxBo has the best pies in the world. Been to many different places in Texas that sells pies and Oxbo is just top notch.
That waterfall is dangerous for diving. A man I met dove from there and ended up paralyzed. I grew up in Palestine and a lot of us spent time out there mucking around at Wolf Creek. In the 80's Upper and Lower lake were the best swimming holes. They'd be packed with families enjoying the water. Hydrilla took over the waters and now we just fish there a little bit. Palestine is a retirement town. It was ok to grow up there in the 80's and early 90's, but now I wouldn't live there again.
I watch your videos because: 1. Teaches me places to visit 2. Food to eat 3. You guys make me laugh to tears 4. BUT MAINLY because , ALL THE FUNNY CARTOONISH SPECIAL EFFECTS!!! Love you guys ❤
i had family in Nacogdoches like 40 miles away, this whole area of Texas is a real marvel to explore especially in cooler months. You can just day trip into the forest, there is all sorts of stuff hidden up there
Of course all us ETx kids used to have a day in elementary school where the stars aligned and we got to go on the old no-AC school bus to the Old Stone Fort. I also know my salesman dad used to stay a lot at the Fredonia (the motel in the back). Now my sons are accounting auditors with clients over there. They stay at the newly freshened up Fredonia. ❤
Man I love this video. I was born and grew up in Palestine. Back in the 90s my grandma Judy use to own a night club called the Dolphin right down the road from the Pitt Grill which isn't there anymore sadly. I live in Oklahoma now but I love seeing this old place.
Yall should have done the railroad Chet. Or comeback in the late fall season and do the Polar Express. And yall need to go to Sherman and do and episode there.

I used to watch your show through regular TV....but it wasn't enough half hour. Finally. I found your TH-cam Channel! I can stay watching you for hours❤ Great shows! Thank you for such wonderful program. I love it!!
Where my father grew up here in Palestine, he tells me he can remember when everything around him was trees and leaves, and how strange it was coming back to a neighborhood.
I worked at a preschool in Palestine for years. The kids loved seeing the weather balloons at playground time. Also, you need to do an episode on the Texas State Railroad.
I see this was filmed in 2017, and COVID closed down the Hamburger bar in 2020. What a shame. Well, Chip's (known for their hamburgers) didn't make long after 2018, although I did have 2 great burgers there with a colleague and they earned their reputation.
Head 25 minutes south of Palestine to Grapeland and do a episode, it may not b big enough for a full episode, there's a good place in Palestine that's real good calld Home Grill downtown
i used to live by wolf creek lake and i used to walk there every day until they closed it off to the public and the people that live right next to it they're the taylors friends with my grandparents.
The streets of palestine are laid out in that fashion because it was actually 2 towns connected by Ave A and a street trolley during the time of John H Reagan. The trolley was too expensive at the time and was sold to a tiny town called "Dallas." My how times have changed. Also this episode does not actually count because you did not go to sheps Barbeque on Palestine Ave. You missed Palestine.
I would be VERY careful of eating here (Pint & Barrel), because I got a HORRIBLE case of food poisoning from a Swiss-Mushroom hamburger one Friday night Dec 2018 and it took me out for 3 days and then 3 more days. Never even bothered when I emailed the place to offer to either refund my money OR at least pay for a brand-new meal and guarantee it was cooked properly.
@TinyHouseHomestead They're not from Texas if they say ....(tex-sussis)...or they're young and dumb. I remember back in the day radio station Q102 had a ZZ Top promo for the station where the boys in ZZ Top would say "Q102, texsussis sussis sussis best rock" to goof on people who misuse the possessive form of a proper noun (Texas').
@@TheDaytripper I figured since it's right next to Pint. Next time you come by, make sure you check out Oxbow! Best pie you ever had and they sell out quick! Thank you for doing an episode on Palestine.
@@fernandonino6042 oh, it's no doubt that it's one of my absolute all-time favorites in Texas. I was super bummed when I learned they wouldn't be open when we filmed
If you really want to get to know Palestine go to Palestine mobile home park address is 3001 N Jackson St and hambones Cajun grill address is 213 E. Crawford St right across the street from pint and barrel

Hello! I'm Kody, the new Agency Manager for Anderson County Texas Farm Bureau Insurance here in Palestine. We sure appreciate the shout out!!
An episode of Palestine and didn’t stop at Sheps BBQ 🤯
It's a dang shame huh. Sheps IS palestine BBQ.
Might want to go there….. They failed health inspection badly, will not be going back.

I'm in Waco but lived there '63-'70. I heard Oxbow killed off everybody's favorite coconut pie.
Ok Ok, new rule. No singing or dancing. Just eat.

That log cabin idea is not unlike the Lincoln log cabin home reconstructed at one of Lincoln's sites in KY, where it is inside a building too.
This great video really misses the effect of this CABIN sitting in the middle of the old HS gym. Weirdly wonderful
Waw you just bring me back 26 years back when I was in Palestine TX and my oldest son burn there that it is a beautiful city love it
Awesome. Texas forever
As a new Texan, your content is great to know where to go day tripping. Local Food content is really good

How did the Texas State Railroad not make it into this? We just came up from Houston for the Polar Express ride and the kids loved it!
I guess so many people know about it, and he was in the wrong season for a run to be bearable due to heat.
